If you are looking for peace, relaxation, space, freedom and honest contact with people, Derek's Place is the place for you. The airy cabañas are furnished with great attention to detail. You live in the middle of nature, between the forest and the sea, in community with different people and animals. Yes, sometimes the electricity goes out. Yes, sometimes there isn't water for a moment, but that's how the Robinson Crusoe experience is authentic. There is so much to discover on the large grounds and on the paths through the forest or along the beach. Anna, Derek and family are very warm people with whom we quickly felt comfortable and at home. The breakfast is great and dinner with everyone who wants to join is a nice and culinary way to get together. The on-site dive center is also great with breathtaking dive spots right outside the door, experienced guides and good equipment. We are happy to have experienced such a relaxed stay on the island through Derek's Place. That's why we stayed twice as long as originally planned.

Anna, Derek and the kids are great, good place to calm down and do a wonderful dive

Derek and Ana gave us a very warm welcome and helped with organising a private boat to and from the island (since the ferry schedule isn't back to pre-corona, yet). The location is an absolute paradise. Breakfast was great and good value for money. Great dive instructor on site as well. The cabanas are lovely, as is Ana's handmade shampoo/conditioner/soap. We also loved the eco-friendly showers.
Got nothing to complain about.

Very nice and cozy place, which also offers a lot for kids to discover. There were quite some great games and books for the couple of rainy hours that we had during our week at Derek‘s Place. Food is delicious. Comfy hammocks everywhere to hang out and enjoy the views. Also great advantage that it’s located at a mosquito-free part of the island when there is some wind. Very nice host family and we had the luck of meeting really nice other guests too. Diving was great. Can definitely recommend this place.
Laundry service is a bit pricy when you have a bit more that needs to be washed.

If you’re going to come all the way to Little Corn Island, you might as well do it right, and stay at Derek’s Place. I don’t know if rustic luxury is an actual thing, but they’ve definitely got that going on there. Super comfortable beds, hammocks everywhere, gorgeous location and the food is truly superb. And although I didn’t ask for it, and I certainly wasn’t expecting it, Derek took it upon himself to deal with my myriad of food allergies, and the results were some really incredible meals. Yum! I left there so much healthier than when I arrived.
And finally, I’ve read some of the negative comments from other reviewers and I can only surmise that those people don’t travel very much. This is a remote location on a very remote island. If you’re expecting to staying at the Hilton, you’re better off staying in Managua.
But if you love adventure, star filled skies, and falling asleep to the ocean waves, then Derek’s Place is probably for you!
I’ve never been a huge fan of the bucket shower, but their shower hut is so charming, it makes for a pleasant experience. Still, I think next time I’ll request one of the cabanas with it’s own shower.

The location is quite beautiful. You can catch a sunrise from the sea while laying in a hammock. It's on the more rustic northern side of the island. This does mean that you have to walk about 25 minutes to get to town or to a bar, and that path is pitch black after 6 p.m. Plus side to that is great star-gazing.
There was free drinkable water, which you can use to refill bottles.
The huts are cosily decorated.
They keep several roosters. Therefore you WILL wake up at around 4 A.M. every morning, and they continue blaring untill 8. They said they couldn't do anything about it, because the neighbours also have roosters. However, the neighbours are quite a distance away.
Also, the shower is a communal one to which you have to walk through a field. And by shower, we mean a bucket you can use to drop water on your head.
The prices they charge for several things are quite steep. When you have dinner, for example, you eat with the family and have the same food. Thr price is more suitable for a restaurant dinner.
Finally, they don't have beer or coke or something like that.
