About this house rental
Sanctuary Vacation Rentals is proud to present “The Guest House”! Sleeps 4 adults.
Walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium from this outstanding location.
The true Pacific Grove experience can be found at this historic cottage just a short block from the beach, which is also within easy 5-10 minute walking distance of the quaint downtown, restaurants and galleries of America’s Last Home Town as well as to Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Recreation Trail along the bay.
The 900-square-foot home known as the A.H. Hewitt & H.A. Walton House was originally built in 1915, but has been recently updated to provide modern conveniences while still keeping all of its Victorian era charm.
The two-bedroom, one-bath home features a white picket fence and brick steps to the front of the house, where a large living room and dining room with ocean views are the perfect places to gather to play games or watch the 42-inch HDTV. A modern heating and cooling system was recently installed, keeping the interior temperature just right no matter the weather. (The fireplace is only decorative)
The cottage is less than a 5-minute walk from the Monterey Bay Recreation Trail, and just a 10-minute walk to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, or a 10-minute drive to 17-Mile Drive and beautiful Pebble Beach®, or 15 minutes to shopping and dining in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The coastal eclectic style of the interiors combines vintage and modern elements for a casual vibe, with tones of blue and white predominating, in addition to easy-care pinewood floors, high ceilings, and original artwork and paintings throughout. An antique table with distressed finish provides a dining or game-playing area for up to six people.
The large galley kitchen features a vintage china cabinet as well as new appliances, including a five-burner gas stove. A laundry area with washer and dryer is available as well.
The deck behind the house is surrounded by a wood fence for privacy, and is an ideal place for barbecuing on a gas grill, or enjoying the afternoon sun around the patio table. The newly landscaped yard includes succulents, bougainvillea, flax and bamboo. Well-equipped for extended stays!
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Each bedroom has its own heating and cooling wall unit with air conditioning.
The Bedroom #1 features a queen bed with an antique wooden headboard and white quilted bedspread.
Bedroom #2 has a full/double bed and a small desk.
The newly updated bathroom has a shower with sunflower shower head, white subway tile walls and tile flooring. The bathroom is accessible directly from both bedrooms.
Parking is available in the one-car garage, which also has room for beach gear and bicycles, and there is an additional parking space in the driveway.
This home is a monthly rental and we request that all nights of your stay are within the same calendar month. Some exceptions may be possible, with the approval of our team and the homeowner. Extended stays are often possible.
This vacation home is professionally managed by Sanctuary Vacation Rentals. We had a great visit at the Guest House. The location was perfect for us because we didn't have a car. It was convenient to the ocean walk, the library, the harbor seals, grocery stores, coffee shops, the museum of natural history. the kitchen was well equipped and we do a lot of cooking so that was helpful.

Great property
We loved our stay. Location was ideal for walking to the Aquarium, shopping, restaurants, library, and farmers’ market. The property was spotless and the most well-stocked of any place we’ve rented. The only minuses are those mentioned by other renters—size of the shower and difficulty getting into and backing out of the driveway when cars are parked on the street.

From the moment we stepped in the front door, it felt like home. This house is so well stocked with everything you could possibly need, and made our 5 week stay so great we didn’t want to leave. Located just a block from the water / rec trail, and a short walk from the aquarium and Cannery Row, you really can’t beat the location.

Fantastic
Super clean, updated property close to the water. Nicely appointed with clear labeling and information about how everything works and where everything is. This was a working-from-home-while-on-vacation type stay, and the WiFi left something to be desired (a 50ft ethernet cable from amazon was my fix). Finally, 4th street is a narrow street, and the property's single car driveway was quite difficult to get into and out of with adjoining properties lining the street with their cars.

Very nice home close to everything don’t bring an SUV if you can help it. Driveway is small and street is narrow. Regular car is fine.

My new bride and I chose The Guest House for our honeymoon in Monterey. We could not have made a better choice. This house is EXACTLY as it appears in photos, except more beautiful and inviting than the photos can convey. Every possible detail and provision was included and taken care of, both in the house itself and before we arrived. More than a place to stay, this is a house that feels like home. Every furnishing and appliance was top-notch, clean as a whistle, and in perfect working order. The house is wonderfully convenient to anywhere in Monterey or Carmel. We loved out time here, and would come back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!

Beauty near the beach
This home is a short walk to everything Pacific Grove has to offer. I highly recommend staying at this home.

The only problem we experienced was with the video equipment. Could not get any tv shows.
We enjoyed the cozy house. The location was ideal and came with daily deer viewing. Very comfortable. Considered it a great value.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at The Guest House. The location is ideal and the house was very comfortable and clean. We recommend it without reservation.

Nice small house close to the aquarium and the ocean
Charming small house that's a short walk to the aquarium, restaurants, Lover's Point, and the ocean. Really couldn't ask for a better location to walk to attractions. Despite that, plenty quiet and restful. One note -- the shower is quite small, so if that's important then this might not be a good fit.

Pacific Grove "take us away"
Our Girls getaway was great. Grandmother (Care provide to 86 yr. old mother), Daughter (works with Special needs adults), Granddaughter just completed College. RELAXING GETAWAY!!!!!
First a "BIG THANK YOU TO THE STAFF" very helpful and accommodating.
The house is close to the beach and easy to find. The house is adorable, very clean, cute décor, the kitchen is well equipped.
Fireplace was welcoming, since it was raining. However, we were able to enjoy the quite, warm coziness even with the rain.
Would gladly recommend to our family and friends!
The downside, the driveway. The steep entry and tightness to getting in and out of your vehicle. We scraped our car frame trying to maneuver pulling out of driveway. My 2500 Ram would never have made it. It would be nice to know in advance to ensure someone does not bring an oversize vehicle.
Thank you again for the Great Getaway and New Experience! We all would have loved to stay a full week.

LOVE THIS HOUSE!
The house was super cute and so incredibly well decorated and maintained! Everything was extremely high quality- even down to all the kitchen gadgets! The wine, cheese, and gift basket were totally thoughtful extra touches!
Note to future guests- the bathroom is located between the 2 bedrooms, so anyone staying in the back little guest area (futon) would need to go through a bedroom to get to the bathroom.
Customer service is great as well. The oven was not working when we arrived. We understand that sometimes these things happen. A part needed to be ordered, so we ended up not being able to use it during our short stay. Sanctuary Vacation Rentals took great care of us to resolve this issue to our satisfaction. I highly recommend this company. We would love to be their guests again soon!

Beautifully maintained home with a great location
We just enjoyed a great stay at this property! Finishes and amenities were all high quality. The property managers obviously take very good care of the house, all supplies were almost new and the house was spotless on arrival. The only disadvantage to the house is that it’s not toddler friendly with lots of beautiful breakables that needed to be put away for their own protection. Shower is also one of the smallest I’ve encountered but great water temp and pressure. All in all, would highly recommend to a group of adults or families with older children.

A magical slice of heaven!
We ended our California vacation with a stay at The Guest House after visiting San Fransisco, Napa, and Yosemite. After a roughing it in Yosemite, we were looking forward to a nice, clean shower, and an early check in was accommodated, which was much appreciated. Upon arrival, we were delighted to find a bottle of wine and cheese and crackers.
The house was impeccably clean and well stocked. Every kitchen gadget and utensil that you could imagine was provided. We were pleasantly surprised to find all of the comforts of home, including shampoo and body wash. We found all items in house to be clearly labeled, which was very helpful. The furnishings and decor of the home are straight out of a magazine. One thing that we loved about the home is that it comfortably accommodated our family of five. We have no need to stay in a large home, but a hotel room does not easily accommodate a family of five. Our three kids have repeatedly mentioned that our stay here was the highlight of the whole 10 day vacation.
The location of the home is unmatched. We rented bikes for our whole stay and rode the bikes to the beach and Cannery Row. There are numerous shops and restaurants to enjoy. With the Monterey Coastal Trail across the street from the home, a picturesque adventure awaits!
Our only complaint is that our stay was too short (we didn't want to leave), and we live across the country. That being said, another cross-country trip would be worth it to stay here again!

Wonderful place!
I really enjoyed my stay at The Guest House. What I liked about the place: convenient location; close to the water; very quiet; neighborhood feel; nice mix of the old and the new; new appliances; not touristy;very private deck; easy parking. I definitely would stay there again.
