Beautiful home, great location

This home was beautifully restored, maintaining older touches like the hand-hewn beams. Tatami floors, sliding washi screens added to the sense of history in Gion. The location is perfect - very quiet, but very close to the heart of Gion. We walked through Kennen-ji temple every day, a beautiful place that isn't crowded with tourists. Our host was very gracious and met us at the home to explain everything and give us the pass code. The house had everything we needed, and the garden and balcony were nice places to enjoy a quiet moment.
We had absolutely no problems our entire stay. Highly recommend.

Would definitely recommend anyone visiting Kyoto to stay at Gion Kyuraku. The house was so beautiful that staying here was already a meaningful part of our family’s trip to Kyoto. Originally intended to book a 5 star hotel with standardized room / services given my parents’ high standards but turned out to be a great choice. Perfect location, with many great restaurants and tourist attractions in the vicinity of the house. Thomas and Rieko were both very kind, patient, and helpful (thank you for hosting us!).
One minor thing to note: some of the hotel services taken for granted may not be available, e.g. recycling / towels / bottled water etc.

Great host. Very accommodating and extremely helpful.
Full kitchen. Supermarket close by. A/C. Modern bath.
Historical building (what we knew), but because of this you had to be careful with the structure (e.g. not leaning against interior walls, steep staircase)
