If you want peace and quiet, this is the spot for you. Almost 360 degrees of amazing views, not another light visible at night for at least ten miles, just you and the desert.
Advice to anyone staying here; buy groceries in Alpine before heading here, bring your own entertainment, and be accustomed to what an RV/Camper is like. Yes, it can smell like sewage there in the morning and at night. However, you are in the middle of the desert and running water is a scarce commodity. Most places use a catchment system or composting for waste. It’s just how it is and will be. The RV is clean though and the smell is mostly noticeable outside. Also, the description of the TV and DVD player is still accurate two years later, which is a disappointment. The DVDs are scratched, the player is so old I’m not sure if it really works. So bring an HDMI cable and you can connect your laptop to the TV. To be honest, I’m kind of glad it didn’t work because we spent even more time admiring the beauty of Big Bend and having great conversation. The Wi-Fi is surprisingly great, seriously an A+ rating for that.
Also, for anyone complaining about driving to “anything to do in Big Bend”…that’s true no matter where you stay in Terlingua. It’s true no matter where you want to go anywhere out there. You are going to spend a lot of time driving anywhere. Chill out, enjoy the view while you drive.
I’d probably give this 4.5 stars as a true score. We would 100% stay again, even if the DVD player still doesn’t work. You honestly don’t need it.

We enjoyed our stay. The camper was clean and very quiet. We were a bit surprised at how far it was from Terlingua. Thank you..............

Property is off a main road and easy to access. We liked that we had a stove and full size refrigerator. The property and trailer was clean We enjoyed our stay. The only problem we had is that the toilet stopped up the last evening we were there. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

This simple property was a great home base for our trip to Big Bend! Directions made it easy enough to find. All of the visitors centers were within 1.5 hours (Chisos was ~1 hr 10 min). The stars were AMAZING. We were a little chilly at night, would recommend bringing extra blankets!

Disappointed
I can't recommend this property. Trash laying on the ground right outside the door. Smell of sewage when outside and entrance steps so deteriorated I was concerned about falling through. The description said there were DVDs and a player for movie viewing, however the description failed to say the DVDs are so scratched they don't work.

Alma Ranch Review
The trailer's surroundings were beautiful, a great spot for star gazing and watching the sunset and for getting a feel for west Texas. The place was very clean and the living space felt roomy. Internet speed was surprisingly good. The website indicated the location was 16 miles from Chisos Lodge, but it was in reality a 75 minute drive. There was a strong sewage odor in the trailer when we arrived that got worse the second day. Fortunately when we contacted Wilma, she had her manager come out to flush the system and that took care of the smell. We were grateful for her responsiveness, but the odor the first 2 days definitely detracted from our overall impression of the place. The trailer had a few deferred maintenance issues that we shared with Wilma, so hopefully they will be addressed for future renters.

sort of near Big Bend
Very comfortable for two people. It is a trailer, not a hotel room. Bathroom fixtures, etc reflect this. Not quite leveled. It is a 45 minute drive to Study Butte (Terlingua), and another 40 minutes or so to park headquarters. Power went out a couple of times in the entire region, so no fault to the property on that one.

Quiet, scenic location
Trailer was clean and well-kept. Perfect size for a single traveler looking for a little bit of isolation. Easy to find location, even being off the main road. Awesome scenery.

GET AWAY
There were a couple of events due to the unusual weather, but the owner helped with that the best that she could.

Private hideaway!
We loved staying here. It’s so isolated which we loved but just a few miles from the Terlingua Ranch restaurant, Bad Rabbit. We were lucky enough to get almost a foot of snow while there! It’s a bit of a drive to the park but Alma Ranch itself has beautiful Mountain View’s too. We enjoyed the scenic drive to and from Big Bend.

ALMA RANCH 1- SOUL OF THE DESERT
Great Stay. A couple of small issues but, they were resolved right away. Host was very responsive and check in was a breeze. As others had mentioned the DVD player not working but, we had great WIFI and when not out exploring we used our laptop. If you enjoy star gazing this is the place for you. It is a little further to Big Bend than I expected but close to Terlingua and the Rio Grande. DO NOT use gps to get there. Use the directions that are emailed to you. Also there is a great app called "Just Ahead" that we used in Big Bend National Park that I highly reccomdend. Also, Stock up on groceries before you get to Terlingua. Not a lot of choices to shop.

Video problem.
The DVR is basically useless. It will work for 5 min, then freeze for 3 min then work for short time, repeating the process thru a movie. TV monitor ok and WIFI good.
Lost electricity for several hours, need a phone number available.
No ck in process. No ability to contact property mgr without internet.

Low price but remote location
The price was good but the location is 1 hour and 15 minutes to any of the Big Bend attractions, so remote. Small trailer with rainwater harvest system for running water.

Great Place to Stay! Would Recommend
I had a great experience staying at Wilma’s Alma 1 property. Everything was exactly as it was pictured and described. Furthermore, Wilma provided very clear directions and check-in instructions that were easy to follow and everything was just as it was described.
Wilma was also very understanding and pleasant to work with. She checked with me shortly before check-in to make sure I didn’t have any questions or trouble with the directions. She was also understanding about a minor issue that I informed her of.
All around, it was a great experience, and I would stay here again.

Great Getaway
This area close to Big Bend National Park was convenient and easy access to the park. We had plenty of room to relax & cook & watch the stars at night. However, we were not prepared for some of the inconveniences of the trailer -- non-potable water, no paper towels, smelly toilet and missing light bulbs. Also, there was only 2 DVD's and no batteries in the remote for DVD player or fireplace or clock. All minor compared to the advantages of location and scenery.
