This was our 4th trip to Terlingua and this property was, by far, our favorite. Everything is as described. All that we needed was provided. The views and wildlife are amazing! Definitely will return. Thank you!

Great spot offering unsurpassed peace and privacy and 360 degree views. Dusty in the desert but glamping at its best. Well-stocked simple house with everything one needs. Whimsical paths circumnavigate the property. We never turned on the TV as the Big Bend vibe followed us back to Javalina. Wonderful managers who provided amazing info and instructions and whom we never saw but were always available. Texting worked great. Magical place.

Spring break trip with family. Great house, close to Big Bend. Really comfortable and enjoyable.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Javelina Hideout. The house was very clean and accommodating to our family of 5. The kids loved staying in the bunk house and the house was absolutely lovely with amazing views. There are multiple outdoor areas to take in the views, have a drink, grill, and relax. The trail behind the house was so fun to explore with the kids. We visited Big Bend two days and this was the perfect place to come home to and relax after a long day of hiking trails. We would definitely book here again.

My girlfriend and I had the best time at this rental. Beautiful views and the house was perfect for our needs.

This place was great! It mostly had everything you needed. The sunsets were beautiful and the stars were amazing. It was nice to relax and chill. Terlingua is only 20-25 min drive away if you need supplies or just to check the town out. Big Bend about 45min to 1 hour drive away. The hosts were communicative with us and helped us with whatever we needed. We plan to come back again!

This is an amazing place to stay. The setting is beautiful and the home has everything you need. You need to plan ahead and bring your groceries, etc. if you are cooking, as it is not particularly close to anywhere, which is the point of staying there. Terlingua has a pretty well stocked market though 20ish minutes away, on the way to BBNP. We easily could have stayed longer! We loved the sunsets, sitting on the porch, just hanging out, and enjoying the setting. No one even minded short showers or hand washing dishes. And our days in BBNP were outstanding as well.

Our vacation to BBNP was wonderful and coming home to Javelina Hideout made it even better. We loved everything about our stay. Turns out 3 minute showers are sufficient and our coffee was delicious! We enjoyed the birds and all the comfortable areas to relax-as well as the decor in and out. The sunrises and sunsets were delightful! Everything there is well thought out for aesthetics and comfort. Our only regret is not being able to spend more time there! Janet and Daryl were very accommodating.

Would 100 stay here again. The house had everything we needed. Well thought out down to that matches in the bathroom. Ha! Sadly we did not get to use the fire pits due to a wind/dust storm but hope to in the future! Bed was super comfortable, clean and plenty of extra blankets in the closet. We had to use one heater for a little bit which worked great! The AC worked well also. Views and stars were breathtaking. Bring a legit flashlight! Don’t try to count on your phone. No real problems with bugs and such. Our stay was October 23rd - 25th ‘22. It’s the season that can be hot but very cold in the same day. That’s Texas!

We cannot recommend this wonderful property highly enough as it was the perfect blend of funky and luxury. We enjoyed the access to Big Bend, loved the solitude, and enjoyed viewing the Milky Way while stargazing. And after seeing the options available in Terlingua, this property stands out even more. We fell in love with Big Bend and did now want to leave this desert hideaway.

It was a nice to get away with the wife and disconnect from real life. Perfect place to stargaze. We'll definitely be back.

High marks for Javelina Hideout!!!
What an absolutely magical place! The pictures don't do it justice. It's just the right balance of comfort and intrigue. If you are looking for the perfect West Texas experience this is it! I stayed here with my brother to hike and canoe Big Bend. It's over an hour drive but that's to be expected. The place has everything you need but their respect for the environment means preserving water and keeping waste to a minimum. The separate WC was nice and no big deal at all. Having a full bath in the main house made it all work. The kitchen , living room and covered deck were beautiful, fun and funky. Artwork abounds both in and out including a very creative pathway on the property. This is tremendous place to stay in every way!

Perfect Girls Trip
This property fit perfectly into our plan for a girl's trip to Big Bend. We loved the quiet location for peaceful happy hours watching the sun set from the comfy porches, watching the stars around the firepit and swinging on the porch swing watching the sunrises. Our group of 4 women had plenty of room. Two of us stayed in the bunk house which was quite comfortable. The linens and bedding in the house are really nice. The owners have gone above and beyond with all the special touches at this property which feel very homey. We also loved the nature walk around the property.

We came here for the star gazing…
And it did not disappoint. Very easy to find, and not too far from Terlingua and BBNP. The only thing we didn’t like was the fact that we could only stay 2 nights. It looks like this place books up quick, so make sure to book far in advance. Owners are very eco friendly which you kind of have to be out there, and it’s very secluded and quiet. If you need to unplug and unwind, perfect place. They gave a separate bunkhouse if you want to bring friends.

Home Base for Bid Bend
We were very comfortable in late February with temperatures down to 30F at night and up to 70F during the day, but was very easy to keep indoors comfortable. The kids loved the garden 'trails' and exploring the property. Most meals we cooked in the kitchen which was adequately equipped. We didn't use the bunkhouse to sleep due to having small kids, but it was also convenient and comfortable. The dark sky was one of the main reasons we chose this location and we were fortunate to have clear skies. It is worth a trip back!

Awesome Homebase for BBNP ventures
Our family of 4 made Javelina Hideout our home base while visiting Big Bend National Park. It was a great decision! The home is about 30 minutes from the entrance to the park, but the drive in and out each day wasn’t tiresome. The property was perfect as a getaway, at night with the lights turned off the sky lite up with stars that are just not possible with the light pollution around the main TX cities. We had the feeling of “camping” in the wilderness, with the modern amenities to enjoy our time there. The house itself was amazing and the owners provided everything we could need and friendly notes with needed details on staying in the sustainable home. Our boys loved exploring the art gardens and watching the birds in the bird feeders/bath.
There is so much more for us to explore then we could in the several days we were there so we’ll definitely be returning to BBNP/Terlingua and staying at Javelina Hideout.

We loved sitting out on the porch watching the sunset with the birds and quail. Being off the grid in style was just what we needed. Very clean and roomy. Very nice place!

Javelina Hideout is a majestic place in the desert. My family and I wanted to be off the grid but at the same time have modern amenities. JH offers just that. This was our first trip to BBNP and Terlingua and we plan on coming back soon and staying at JH. The property is only about 20 min from the town of Study Butte and 25 min from Ghost Town Terlingua, on plenty of acreage to give you the feeling of being alone in the desert. The property is perfect for a party of 5 with the added bunkhouse. It was only 3 of us and the house was amazing. We loved all the details that went into making this home feel like a home away from home from the interior to the yard art. The night skies are amazing with hardly any light pollution. This place was just what we needed for a getaway in the desert. We absolutely loved it and we cant wait to go back.Thank youSid, Mel, and Bella

Wonderful wide open spaces, incredible home
We had such a wonderful time at Javelina Ranch - the views from the house were amazing, the bird watching on the feeder was the best (we saw the quails on our last morning there!), and being near Terlingua and Big Bend made it the perfect place to stay. We had no issues with the solar power or rainwater, and it was super rad to stay in a place truly off the grid with everything we needed to cook and truly relax. Thank you so much for the best stay! We'll definitely be back!

AMAZING RETREAT!
My husband and I went for our honeymoon last week and we had the best time! Its a bit different to be off grid but an amazing experience. Easy drive to Big Bend NP or Big Bend SP, Terlingua, Alpine, and Lajitas. We wanted quiet and secluded to relax and recharge after the stresses of planning a wedding (during Covid) and reconnect with each other. The place was spotless and very clean with lots of outdoor space to roam and enjoy the west Texas sunsets/sunrises. Also has a great gas fire pit to sit around on a cool night, and the stars are spectacular!

This home is a sanctuary for the soul. The mountains beyond @ dessert landscape pull you out of yourself and bring the healing in. Inside, all of the comforts are there. The space brings insight that living off grid, is possible & comfortable, but also makes one mindful to be in synchronicity with nature. It connects you further.Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Perfect
Javelina Hideout is so well cared for and beautiful! Environmentally conscientious and luxurious, every detail tended to, with helpful notes, and a beautiful decor with sunrise and sunset views that will take your breath away. Drive to Big Bend is totally manageable. Absolutely delightful. Spring temperatures perfect and terrific wilderness all around. What a treat!

Adorable, well layers out and stunning views!
Our family of 5 stayed here very comfortably. We moved the roll away bed to the bunkhouse so our 3 teens had their own space which we and they both loved.
We loved watching the birds from the dining table each morning, the convenient location for our drive into Big Bend each day and the spectacular sunsets and stars as we are s’mores by the fire pit each night.
The place was very clean ( tho some previous guests had put their dishes away dirty so we ended up having to wash everything we used since we weren’t sure which were clean)...but thats not the hosts fault.
We loved every minute here and can’t wait to return for a longer visit!

Quite Escape with Style
This property was clearly developed with plenty of attention to detail. Very nice decorative and functional appointments. We would certainly consider staying here again. There are alway nits to pick, and there were a few here. We found a number of the dishes were put away dirty. There was a fair amount of residual hair and dust at a few spots on the floor. The issue of no toilet paper allowed in the commode was inconvenient. We utilize a septic system at home with no issues with toilet paper. I guess the system here is of a different duty rating. The property description lists some features that were not provided; a microwave was not found although one is advertised as being present. Aside from these few issues, we found the accommodation really fun and restful.

This place is a gorgeous property with incredible views. It really does an excellent job in serving its purpose for the reasons most people want to go to the Big Bend region. Quiet, isolated, makes you feel like the only people on the planet in the best way. House was incredibly clean and comfortable. It was stocked with everything you could need and was truly a home away from home. I'm pretty OCD and my brain thrives on having ALL THE INFORMATION, so I especially appreciated all the detailed instruction manuals prepared by the owners. My family made fun of me because they knew it was right up my alley and I got an intense amount of satisfaction every time I got to "reference the instruction guide". We went the last week of Dec, the weather was incredibly cold, and the heaters worked extremely well. Can't vouch for comfort in the heat, but comfort in the cold was exceptional. I'm a housecat who doesn't love the idea of using an outhouse, but it was the best outhouse I've ever had the pleasure of using. This was by far the "greenest" place we've ever stayed, so we weren't entirely sure what to expect, but rest assured that this house makes it easy. The directions to the property that you're given prior to arrival are very, very helpful and well done. You'll have no problem getting there if you utilize them. We booked both the house and the bunkhouse. We arrived at 11:00 pm the first evening, so we were trying to get acclimated in the dark, and we mistakenly thought that the door to the storage area was the door to the bunkhouse. The bunkhouse code obviously didn't work on that door, so we assumed we were locked out. Cell service is spotty/non-existent out there, so I used the wifi to iMessage my husband (who wasn't able to make the trip) and asked him to contact Daryl and ask about the bunkhouse code. We were hesitant to bother Daryl at that hour, but we needed access to the bunkhouse in order to sleep. He was able to get in touch with him and Daryl called us on the landline in the house. Please note that it wasn't until the moment that the landline rang that we even realized we could've just used it to call him ourselves, haha. Daryl informed us that we were using the wrong door and sure enough, the code worked just fine on the actual bunkhouse door. We appreciated being able to contact him for help and his readiness/willingness to help us despite the late hour.

Highly Pleased
This is an incredible property where the owners have left nothing to chance. The "living off the grid" sounds a bit intimidating but the place is extremely comfortable and reasonably convenient to the Parks and Terlingua. The sunrises, sunsets, desert skyine, and night skies are amazing. You will not be disappointed if you spend time in this place. We hated to leave.

Perfect stay for the two of us. Great views and location. Off grid but you would barely know it. Comfortable accommodations. Only a short drive to Big Bend National Park and the ghost town of Terlingua.
