It was an amazing experience everyone going to Amsterdam MUST try. Room was too big. Bed was too comfortable. Perfect lighting. Amazing hospitality. So friendly and helpful owner. Breakfast was delicious. I would recommend it to everyone want to be in a quite area far from the stress of the city!

Die Unterkunft bietet alles was man sich wünscht. 20min Fussmarsch zum Zentrum. Ruhig, Restaurant in der nähe. Grosszügige suite. Sehr netter Vermieter. Kann ich für Pärchen nur empfehlen

The advertising sell you the pictures and is exactly as shown, no hidden surprises. Fascinating idea this room if you are into “different”.
As an experience it is worth the stay you’ll hardly ever forget the room.
Beautifully designed interesting machinery room! Unique would be the word! there are many pros and a few cons you should note..
Pros:
Extremely quiet room
Very large room for Europe with a nice KING SIZE BED
Super original design to be seen and lived
Nice immediate hot water all the time
Nice heated floor (cozy)
Nice breakfast deliver to your door every morning
A few thing to note (cons):
It is more of a summer stay or at least fair weather so don’t stay if the weather forecast is for rain or miserable weather since you are somewhat far from everything.
It’s a nice 15 min walk to free ferry but ONLY WITH FAIR WEATHER. You can also take an Uber to central station or ferry but you’ll be spending €15-€20 all the time.
€40 if you don’t want to take the free ferry.
There is a block alway from the nearest road so taxis can’t pick you up right in front but it is a VERY SHORT Walk (with nice weather) otherwise you’ll get cold and wet if raining. Or bring an umbrella!!
Take note they DO NOT SERVICE YOUR ROOM and it is not cheap.
No fresh towels, no cleaning, no sheets of course. (This we did not like or expect)
No exterior visibility from the room. You are down in the boat with only some original round boat window to high to see anything (good if you need dark room for sleeping)
With good weather who wants to stay in the room anyway.
Very polite and nice host Alex.
Helped us with an unfortunate issue of flight cancellation.

Staying on a boat was always on our bucket list, and this hotel surpassed our expectations.
Our room was fully equipped, spotlessly clean, and boasted top-quality bed, pillows and linen.
The host was incredibly welcoming and was always available for anything we needed.
It was a unique and memorable experience for us. Highly recommend!
Just a general advice for other travelers:
In Amsterdam, biking is the norm. When staying at this amazing hotel in Amsterdam Nord, note that the metro is a 20-minute walk and the free ferry to Central Station is 25 minutes away. Consider renting a bike for convenience!

We had a fantastic stay in the Machine Space at the Lightship Amsterdam. To my knowledge, this is a one of a kind property. You board a beautiful old ship, walk down some stairs, and enter a glass container suspended within the inside of the ship. Inside the glass container is a beautiful and spacious hotel room decorated with care and skill. Plus, our host Nathalie was as nice and accommodating as one could ask for and the area is beautiful and quiet, but also a 25 minute walk/ferry from Amsterdam Central. We loved everything about our stay.

Nice and central quiet location. Good breakfast, our host Alex is one of the kindest guys out there and was really helpful with everything. The bed was really comfortable and the room standard was excellent. The selection of the minibar, coffee, tea was really good.

Truely unique stay in a really nice quiet location with easy access to central Amasterdam.

Without a doubt, this accommodation surpassed all our expectations and stands as the most remarkable place we've ever stayed in, a sentiment that will likely remain until we return, which we certainly plan to do! The transformation of the place is truly exceptional, seamlessly blending luxury with industrial charm. Upon entering, you are immediately struck by the ingenious use of glass walls, which retain the original fabric of the ship and create a museum-like ambiance in the room.
The amenities provided are what you'dexpect from a 5-star hotel, but the experience offered so much more than that. The convenience of being able to easily access both the ferry and train, just a short walk away, made exploring the city even more enjoyable.
One of the highlights of our stay was the contemporary double-ended bath in our room. After a day of exploration, sinking into that tub was an incredibly relaxing experience.
The breakfast provided was nothing short of a feast, setting us up perfectly for the day ahead. It was so delicious and filling that we ended up skipping lunch each day!
Though we didn't get to meet Alex, Nathalie, the host, was simply amazing. She attended to our every need and went above and beyond to ensure our stay exceeded all expectations. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

While the setting of staying in a refurbished ship is certainly unique and well done the strength of staying here is the hosts - Nathalie & Alex. They have created a warm and welcoming environment and run a tight ship. (Pun intended!) You cannot go wrong staying here.

This was a truly unique experience! Very comfortable and quirky accommodation, supported by a quiet location and excellent hosts. The mini bar and breakfast were wonderful, and there were lots of personal touches that made our time on the boat feel really special - we’re already talking about a return visit :)
If you’re staying during summer prepare for the room to be very warm, as there is no air conditioning- however, there is a big fan in the room to take the edge off and overall the heat didn’t bother us.

Staying at Lightship was a fantastic end to our European Holiday. It was a such a fabulous and unique experience . The hosts were exceptionally hospitable and communicated very well with us even though we were arriving late in the evening, the check in process was made very easy . Natalie was an amazing host , she made us a delicious breakfast and coffee each day. The location was not far from central station by a small 10 min walk to the ferry and quick free ferry ride to central station that runs 24/7 every 5 minutes. The area was in a residential part of Amsterdam North with plenty of restaurant located nearby. We even swam in the canal , as there were locals swimming. The room was very big and I loved having a bath (very rare in Amsterdam hotels) . There was a minibar stocked daily. We have stayed many times in Amsterdam , but this was exceptional . I is just a great place to hang out to get away from the hustle of Amsterdam. We sat on the deck after a busy day , and we felt at home. It was a relaxing stay and I highly recommend.
Nothing. Loved it all !

Not every day you stay in an old ship on holiday. Nathalie is an exceptional host and really made us feel at home. Ship is amazing and the rooms are beautifully decorated and designed. Free minibar is another big plus point
Location good and around a 20 minute walk to the free ferry which takes you to Amsterdam Central Station.
Bed is like sleeping on a cloud
If you go during summer and don't want to wake up early, invest in an eye mask as the sun streams in through the portholes in the ship. Very minor quibble though

The ship is so beautiful and unique - a really distinct and memorable experience. Hosts we’re incredible and made our stay so comfortable!
15min walk to nearest metro station

Everything. An amazing location, never expected to look so good with a super friendly and nice hosts.

If you're looking for something exceptional, this is it. We absolutely loved staying on the Lightship and enjoyed this unique experience. The host was very available, helpful and nice.
There isn't anything we didn't like. It was a perfect stay.

The entire atmosphere of the room is awesome, as a mariner the way the structure of the vessel is exposed in the room is something I have never seen before!
For a modern renovation it is a shame there is no floor heating in the bathroom, in the middle of winter the floor was freezing.. litterally.. especially since the rest of the room had nice floor heating.
4.8
The rooms have to be seen to be appreciated. A real wow factor. Photos do not do them justice. Breakfast was exceptional. Fresh, varied and tasty. Hosts were lovely, helpful and friendly. Location was just a short walk to trams and ferry.
There was nothing we didn't like about our stay.
4.8
Great breakfast. What you see is what you get.
A really great experience overall. Nice extra touch that the mini bar is included.

The lightship experience is simply unique.
The location, the scenery, the quietness of the area, the one-of-kind setup of the bedroom, the quality of the breakfast...
We had a wonderful time and would recommend that place to anyone looking for something very special in Amsterdam.
One little tiny thing: the temperature drop when entering the bathroom from the bedroom could sometimes be dissuasive... ;-)

We loved everything about it. Unique place, very friendly host, clean, comfortable! Simply wow!

we had the most amazing stay, while celebrating new year we ended up with the most relaxing bolt hole to get rest after late nights out. the engine room was finished to a really high standard, with the most amazing continental breakfast deliver at a time we picked. warm bread and croissants were divine and fresh orange juice.
but the outstanding feature has to be that the room is in a self contained glass box so it is sound proofed to any noise even the fireworks that continued day and night over three days of new year so when we came in at nearly dawn we could still sleep until midday without any noise etc. this from someone who never sleeps past 7am normally.
a 15 min walk including and a quick hope on the ferry puts you right at central station. so great for getting to the centre of Amsterdam. this ferry runs every 10 minutes so you never have to wait as there’s always one loading up. even on new years night.
although it’s a ship it doesn’t move or feel like a ship so apart from the amazing ambiance of being in a ship’s engine room, and being able to look through the walls of the glass lining to see the carcass of a ships engine room it actually feels like a top class suite in the best hotels
we are going to plan another stay here again
that we couldn’t stay longer

The room exceeded the images. Such a beautiful and unique space.
There was nothing we didnt like about the space.

so unique, romantic, comfortable bed and lovely breakfast.

We had the most wonderful time at The Lightship. It’s a completely unique place to stay. We booked the Machinery Space, which was huge and stylishly decorated. The bed was so comfortable that we could have slept in it all day, and the bathroom is great with a spacious bath and shower. Coming back to the beautiful Lightship after a hard day’s sightseeing and seeing her looking so beautiful was such a joy - every day we couldn’t quite believe this amazing place was our home for a week!
The Lightship itself is situated in a lovely, safe, quiet neighbourhood, with great bars and restaurants only a short walk away (we particularly enjoyed Pllek, Cafe ONS and Next cocktail bar). You can easily walk from the Lightship to the A’DAM Tower Lookout (about 10 to 15 minutes) and the brilliant free ferry into central Amsterdam. It’s also a short walk from
the Lightship to Noorderpark Metro station (but we generally found the ferry more convenient).
The best thing about staying at the Lightship is the superb hosting by Alex and Nathalie, who are so kind, generous and friendly. Alex provided the most generous and delicious holiday breakfast we have ever had each day, responded to any questions and requests really quickly, and was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Lightship and would highly recommend it! Thank you again, Alex!

The Lightship is a bit further out from central Amsterdam, in a quiet neighborhood that seems to have been industrial but is becoming residential. There are some excellent dining options nearby, as well as a bit of shopping. It is quiet and beautiful and a great way to start your trip. The breakfast delivered to our door at the time of our choosing was especially nice, as was the responsiveness and helpfulness of the owners.
The bed was quite firm which may be a problem for some. You don't really have a view out from the machinery room we stayed in, but conversely, that means nobody can really see in, either. We needed an extension cord for one of the outlets, but that was promptly provided.

the location was a bit off but since Amsterdam is a small city u can manage it
4.8
very special b&b with great atmosphere. Nice room and facilities. Very quiet area at night and close to the ferry to the central station.
4.8
Rooms are beautiful with comfortable bed and great shower. Plenty of space. Breakfast was huge and tasty. We loved the location, away from the chaos of amsterdam central and lovely and quiet but only 15-20 min walk into town. Some lovely restaurants nearby too!
4.8
Amazing! first you see this beautiful restored old lightship then these incredible rooms which look like something out of a James Bond movie! super cool, spacious and really comfortable - the perfect hosts deliver a huge breakfast to your room each day (or to the ships deck in good weather). loved our stay 😊
it’s about a 15 minute walk from the ferry which is fine in good weather but take an umbrella if the forecast is rainy

Special place. Friendly host
Not air conditionner. But this is not a problem during September.
