About this cabin rental
If you want peace and quiet, you will certainly find it here. This 900-square-foot studio (one-room) cabin sits on 51 acres with beautiful views of the Black Hills to the north and a nice outcrop of rocks, trees, and meadows to the south for wildlife viewing. Bring your hammock and listen to the wind in the trees.
This is a quaint one-room, smoke-free, cabin, and it is the perfect venue for a couples’ get-away or a family adventure. Sleeping accommodations include a king-sized bed and two extra-long twins (which can be joined together for a king). The kitchen is well-equipped with a coffee maker, Keurig, toaster, mixer, blender, and other necessities to make meals away from home easy to prepare. The gas grill is just outside for those who want to take in the beauty of the Black Hills while grilling over an open flame. After a long day, unwind with a bath or shower, taking full advantage of the complimentary shampoo, conditioner, soap, and hairdryer. All linens and towels are provided.

Dish TV keeps you up-to-date on news, weather, and your favorite shows. The smart tv allows you to stream from your favorite platforms.
We have had the opportunity to host the best guests since we purchased the property in 2020. Our personal home sits next door on the same acreage, where you will most likely see us and our family dog, Cooper. She is usually the 1st to greet the guests. Naturally, we will not intrude, but we are not too far away should a question or concern arise.
Miles of the Black Hills National Forest trails are just down the road for UTV's/ATV and horseback riding. Mickelson trail, 1 mile away, offers horseback riding, hiking, and biking. After a full day of sightseeing, you can enjoy an evening of relaxation sitting under the stars and roasting S'mores by the gas fire pit. Provided hammocks offer an opportunity to sway between the trees while listening to the whistling pines. We have been lucky enough to have elk, turkey, whitetail, and mule deer stroll through the property.

Wind Cave National Park is approximately 15 miles away, where you will see buffalo, antelope, coyotes, and elk. Jewel Cave National Monument, 30 miles from Bison Pines, is home to the third-longest cave in the world. The Mammoth Site Museum is located in Hot Springs, just 20 miles away. This cabin was exactly what we needed for our trip to the Black Hills. It is located between Custer State Park and Hot Springs so the location is great for seeing many of the sights. Plus it is clean, quiet and comfortable! We definitely plan on going back to this cabin!

You won’t find a better place to stay. Carmen & Jim are great personable people. Just like being at home the cabin is more than fully furnished and comfortable. With a chance of hail Jim moved his tractor out from under cover so we could move our vehicle in. That’s how for thoughtful they are.

Carmen and Jim are super nice (Cooper too). Very helpful with ideas on things to do in the area. Great Communication before and during the trip. Place was extremely clean. They thought of everything. Bed are like sleeping on a cloud. Teen did not want to leave.

This place was AMAZING!!! Jim and Carmen were so easy to work with. Anything you need, they are right there to help out! There is nothing bad to say about our experience! Don't worry, even though you're right next to their house, they totally respect your privacy. It was so quiet and peaceful. Cooper, the dog, is a hoot!
It was a decent drive to anywhere touristy but well worth it because of the scenery along the way. There is so-o much to do in all directions of this cabin. We stayed for 5 nights. Definitely not long enough. We've pinned this cabin on the map in hopes of going back some day! Thanks Jim and Carmen for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!

Very nice house, property and accommodations! The hosts providedall we needed and more. We were very comfortable staying at Bison Pine. The bed was comfortable as was the furniture. It was a good home base for exploring the southern black hills.
We loved Custer State Park! We saw a herd of bison up close, which was amazing! Needles Highway and Sylvan Lake also amazing! The begging burros in Custer also lots of fun!
I highly recommend staying at Bison Pines. It was perfect for my wife and i. We went for a quiet getaway to enjoy nature.

This is an amazing place for a getaway. My wife and I enjoyed the place and being able to take some time away from life and to reconnect.

These folks have put together the most welcoming, cozy, comfortable, thoughtful place imaginable. If you enjoy down to earth tasteful accommodations with MANY little extras this is the place! I was surprised by the complimentary bottle of table wine, not one but two white noise machines (which I loved!), a nice pedistal fan, body wash, shampoo & conditioner (not the cheap stuff either), well stocked Keurig machine with LOTS of K-cups/options, paper towels, aluminum foil, VERY NICE NEW nonstick pots & pans, Cutco knives etc… they really seemed to think of everything! Even the shower had fantastic water pressure….. Maybe a billionaire would have found something to complain about, but we sure couldn’t!!! Plus Jim and his wife Carmen are lovely people, very welcoming and gave us numerous restaurant suggestions (all which were fantastic!)
Couldn’t have been a nicer place with nicer hosts.
Thanks Jim & Carmen

Jim and Carmen were perfect hosts. The small but spacious VRBO is located next to their house with a spectacular view of rolling pasture land and pine covered mountains. Everything was furnished to deliver maximum comfort and relaxation. The place was immaculately clean with all the features of a fully equipped home. The perfect place. Jim and Carmen were not at all intrusive, yet they were open and friendly such that we enjoyed some long leisurely conversations with them. Their dog Cooper was friendly and cute as a button. We would love to stay with them again.

The views and the property were breathtaking. The location was far enough from civilization but within 30 minutes of most tourist attractions. Carmen and Jim were very friendly. Copper was my husband’s favorite (sorry Carnen and Jim.) He is a great dog.
The place had everything we needed and more. It was cozy and clean. We enjoyed morning walks around the property and evening meals at the picnic table, then watching the sunset.

The cabin at Bison Pines was outstanding! From the roominess and cleanliness, to the amenities, to the location, to the views, all were just wonderful. Jim and Carmen were warm, welcoming hosts who offered suggestions on what to see and do based on our interests. Cooper was a sweetheart who greeted us each morning and even crawled into my lap....all 40lbs of her! We fell in love with South Dakota!

My wife and I fell in love with Bison Pines! Everything there is perfect! Jim and Carmen are the greatest hosts and go above and beyond for their guests. Their dog cooper is awesome too. She loves coming to say hi in the morning. You choose how much interaction you have with the dog and the hosts. They respect your privacy. The building and grounds are perfectly clean. Having a full kitchen set up we cooked breakfast and dinner every day and we had everything we needed for cookware and grilling! We will be back for sure!

We will highly recommend Bison Pines to anyone who is headed to the Black Hills! The cabin was very clean and welcoming and the scenery was so beautiful. We had plenty of space for our family of 4. Our hosts were so welcoming, kind, and helpful. They went above and beyond in taking care of us.
Here are some of the things we appreciated:
*Our kids really enjoyed the hammocks, playing with the dog, and using the movable privacy wall to create their own "room" around their beds in the cabin.
*My husband and I enjoyed sitting outside watching the sunrise and sunset.
*We also appreciated that there were 5 ice cube trays so we could start each day with our water jugs filled with ice water.
*There were several yard games and a nice space to play them. We also enjoyed playing some of the board games that were there.
*We roasted marshmallows over the gas firepit.
*The beds were super comfortable.
We enjoyed Bison Pines so much that we stayed an extra day, and we hope to stay here again in the future!

Carmen and Jim made this a stress free stay. Everything was clean and comfortable and the cabin was appointed with everything we needed.
They even went out of their way to rearrange things so we could park our car under cover when a hail storm threatened.
Wonderful hosts.

We loved our stay at Bison Pines. Hosts are friendly, and helpful. The cabin was clean and so many nice amenities, they have made it a great place to get away. Nice and quiet…far enough enough away, but easy drives to everything you want to see. Beautiful property. We would definitely recommend a stay here when you come to the Black Hills.

Was a first time using VRBO as with work travel I am a loyal Wyndham traveler. Location was amazing just close enough to places but just far enough away to feel like you are a local. Hosts amazing, cabin amazingly stocked and clean. We couldn't ask for anything better.. was our best family vacation ever. We will be back and hope the hosts are still renting.

We spent two nights at Bison Pines while riding the Mickelson Trail. After riding pretty hard for three days (with fully loaded bikes and a persistent headwind from the south), it was wonderful to just sit on the porch and relax for a day. The cabin is large, clean, comfortable, well-furnished, and only about a mile from the trail. The owners have put a lot of thought and effort into making this a nice place. They also very kindly kept their (cute and friendly) dog away after I mentioned my allergies. We highly recommend Bison Pines as a place to stay when riding the Mickelson Trail.

This stay was our first rental. We had always stayed in hotels/motels. I have to say this place is Fantastic! Beautiful cabin in a beautiful landscape. While the weather wasn't the best, the host even checked to make sure the provided flashlights were working when the power went out briefly. Cabin was extremely clean and loaded with provisions to make our stay Great! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Bison Pines exceeded our expectations. The property is off the beaten path, but easily accessible to the parks and attractions in the area. The house was pristine, the beds were comfortable, and the living areas would handle more than two gyests quite easily. We will definitely keep Bison Pines in our list of places to stay in the Black Hills.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bison Pines. The cabin was well stocked, clean and comfortable. It was an ideal base to explore the Black Hills: Custer, Wind Cave, Hot Springs were easy, scenic drives. And it was grounding to just relax and enjoy the beauty of the property. We highly recommend the cabin and appreciate our accommodating hosts.

We had a great week at Bison Pines. Beautiful, peaceful, cozy! Carmen and Jim are excellent hosts. So many nice extras in the cabin. We also enjoyed the visits from Cooper and Taffy. Easy distance from Custer and Hot Springs for outings. Our vacation was worry free and relaxing. We would stay again!

The hosts and the property are simply delightful. This was the best VRBO experience we’ve ever had. The pictures don’t convey how charming the property is and the accommodations were the most thoughtful of any place we’ve stayed. The hosts have thought of everything! If you are looking for a lovely stay in the Black Hills, this is the place.

This is a great location for relaxing. Not too far from Custer, but just far enough. Being away from the city has the advantages of being so quiet at night AND wonderful star gazing! The place is immaculate, well stocked (has everything you need) and very homey. It is also quite roomy; would accommodate a family of 4 very nicely. One slight drawback (although not a problem for us) is there is no divider or separation of all the beds from the living room or each other. It is all one big room. This was not a negative for us, but could be for 2 adult couples. Jim and Carmen are the absolute best hosts, and just good people. They were very helpful with suggestions of things to do and places to eat. We are blessed to have met them, and gotten to know them. We will most likely be back and therefore will stay here again.
