The property looks amazing in the photos and the exterior was very nice and the flowers were beautiful. The room appeared nice when we entered, but the overwhelming smell of fabreeze room fresher was almost more than we could deal with. After airing out the room a bit, we settled in. Went to take a shower and noticed brown spots on the floor near the sink and bathroom; when we used a wipe to clean them up, it smelled and looked like dog crap. Probably why the room had been so fabreezed. Very disappointed to discover the crap and made us wonder about the rest of the cleanliness of the room. It is a nice location and is quaint. Thin walls and floors so you hear most everyone else in the building. The only staff member that we encounted was friendly, but we were there on the last day the motel was open for the season.

Older property that has been beautifully maintained. Very clean! Some nice touches like warm cookies and milk in the lobby in the afternoon. Did not use but 2 pools one inside and one outside. Walking path. Pickle ball courts. Free washer and dryer with detergent and softener. Will return.

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. It is very comfortable and relaxing. Cookies and milk happy hour?!? The best!

Great hotel on outskirts of Custer
We absolutely loved our stay, lots of extra touches, super comfy bed, lots of amenities, including outdoor pool, indoor pool and hot tub.Great place families with kids, outdoor games like cornhole, giant chess, connect 4, etc.
Good shower pressure, room fridge that actually cools. Great gathering patios for larger families. Everything was super clean and well kept. Great location in black hills. Very nice and personal in front desk.

Our stay was delightful. We received a text prior to check-in and everything went smoothly when we arrived. Our room was really nice and very clean! The laundry basket was a nice touch. The bed and pillows were SUPER comfortable. The grounds were so well cared for and I loved all of the flowers. There were several dining options with a two-mile radius so I would say everything we needed was within walking distance. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again sometime soon!

Everything was excellent, staff were nice and friendly but not easily accessible. Many extra amenities over chain hotels or motels!! Loved the added decorations and flowers everywhere. They also had a few food items that could be delivered to your room! Loved that they had a little notebook that you could fill out any items for cleaning staff to replace as well without having to call the front desk. A+++ place to stay! Only thing I would recommend is some kind of doorbell or buzzer when people come to the front desk because there was rarely anyone there to greet you for questions. If you call the main phone number someone will answer though.

This place was beautifully decorated inside and out. Great price for amenities: indoor pool and hot tub area was huge and actually had towels stocked plus many games for kids throughout. Outdoor pool and pickle ball court was an added bonus!! Offered self service laundry facility and provided free detergent. The only thing to improve would be a bell at the front desk because there is rarely any one there. They are usually “in the back” and have to call the facility to speak with someone.

Henri was amazing! No energy drinks needed for her. However the other young lady who worked the counter was helpful but had no personality at all, didn't smile once. Young people, right? The cafe staff and service and food was great!
We really enjoyed our 3 days stay at the Bavarian! We'd love to come back, some day.

People very friendly. Nice room

We only planned on one night, but we loved it here so much we stayed for two! The room was adorable and so clean! The lobby and pool area were amazing! Outside sitting areas are fantastic. Great detail in everything! Free cookie hour as well! Bravo!

The property is dated. A lot of noise from other rooms. I found the whole process of acquiring from necessities complicated.
But above all the purported “Feel good cafe”, is really just a gas station breakfast. Great name though.

Stay at this hotel!!! My niece said, “ awwww do we have to go.” Rooms were nice but best part was basketball court and pickleball area. Our family spent several hours outside enjoying the sports equipment. The outdoor pool was refreshing and there was also an indoor one we did not have time to use. Very pleasant decor with lots of cute touches. A breakfast place right next door for the morning with good coffee. Would stay here again in a heart beat.

Very clean, it gives a boutique hotel feel, a lot of attention to detail. I love all the flowers and flower baskets. Staff was very friendly and we were able to do laundry for free as well. The restaurant is very cute including the to-go containers, breakfast sandwich and coffee drink were tasty as well. Will definitely stay again and recommend other to stay as well

My wife picked the Inn and I was not impressed. The one positive aspect about the in is it’s dog friendly policy. The room was a tad bit musty for me and bathroom was outdated. The drive to town was short.

Four-night stay while touring the Black Hills, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore. And Devil’s Tower. Convenient location. Quiet.

Room very small, bathroom was tiny. Balcony in the first floor??? Didn’t know that was possible, Again third party bookings worst room. No elevator so next to ice and laundry.

Check in guy was polite. The place is very noisy as there’s no carpeting or drapes to absorb the noise, contemporary to the point of almost stark
Morning of departure no coffee & attendant was not there, when she did arrive she apologized & suggested I walk across the road to eat I assume is a sister motel to get coffee. Everyone paid a lot of $ to stay here.
Better suggestion - she should have gone across the street to get coffee for the guest
Also a table only one chair

It's a charming and inviting inn. It has a very European look. The staff is so friendly and there are so many amenities not always found at a typical establishment.

This was the first time staying here, even though we make frequent trips to the Black Hills. We were pleasantly surprised by our room, which reminded me of a cottage style interior. Loved the double doors with the blinds and the decor and the beds just everything really.
This will become our new go to hotel whenever we revisit the Black Hills! Absolutely love it.

We absolutely loved our 3-day stay at the Bavarian Inn! Our family of five stayed in a room with 3 Queen beds, and while the decor was a bit dated, the room was clean and very spacious. The on-site café was perfect for breakfast each morning. The location is fantastic, with easy access to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, and more. Highly recommend!

Room was small but well appointed. Bed was comfortable. No daily housekeeping but can easily request needed items. Very close to Custer and possibly walkable. Best indoor pool we have experienced…clean, not humid, and warm. Cookies and milk! Outdoor play area including basketball and pickle ball! Lots of outdoor area to walk around. 2 EV chargers on site. Staff responsive. Laundry equipment with free detergent. Cable TV. No workout room but a track in the back. We enjoyed our 3-night stay very much

Cleaner and better kept than most, but nothing special.

Beautiful location along with amazing service and options. Plenty of things to do at the location like the pool, and hot tub open until 10 at night. Life size chess and connect four. There's a cafe on site as well open until 11am that has great options for good prices.

We spent two nights here and loved it. The amenities and location really made this the perfect stay. The room was rather small for the price & was hot even with the AC on full blast. However I do understand it’s a tourist area and everything else was perfect!

My wife and I loved the Bavarian Inn. The rooms were cozy and very clean, with easy access to food an coffee on the grounds, as well as a short drive into Custer. We would definitely stay there again.

We loved our stay at the Bavarian Inn. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The room decor was a mixture of retro/modern. King room had plenty of room with extra seating, and seating outside the door to enjoy the woodsy setting of the Inn. We took advantage of the outside pool during the afternoon and were happy to have plenty of towels available ,lots of seating choices, and a shaded area around the pool. We ate breakfast on site and highly recommend the cafe. There are many extra amenities offered at this Inn that truly made our stay comfortable. We will stay again.

Everything listed on features was there and honestly adorable. Cookie time was goofy and fun, there are borrow able board games, and table top old school video games in the lobby. I don't remember her name, but the girl at the check in desk was amazing and helped a ton. If you're on the fence about staying here, do it.

We only stayed one night and after our long drive to Bavarian Inn the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff were friendly and informative. The property was beautiful and well laid out. Only set back and I did not take a star off for this because restaurant on the property opens early no drip coffee is included. Only steep bag coffee in the room. The decor for the common spaces are beautiful. The rooms are remodeled nice and we loved their shampoo, body soap and hair conditioner. This is an old quaint property do not expect new construction but that was exactly what we were looking for. We wish we planned more than one night in Custer it was wonderful to stay. Totally recommend this property!

Our stay at the Bavarian inn was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a relaxing and thoughtful atmosphere that made our trip truly memorable.
One of the highlights was the delightful cookie hour, a charming touch that made us feel right at home. The hotel also offers a cozy area to enjoy your own little happy hour around a fire pit, which was perfect for unwinding in the evenings. The hot tub was another fantastic amenity, providing a soothing retreat after a day of exploring.
The attention to detail at the Bavarian Inn is remarkable. The staff regularly checked in to see how our day was going, ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The breakfast café was a feel-good spot with excellent food and service. We especially appreciated the free water and apples, which were perfect for our hiking adventures.
Overall, staying at the Bavarian Hotel was a wonderful experience and a definite asset to our trip. We would return anytime we’re in South Dakota.

This is a top choice for me in the future. Pros
Great pools and spa set up.
Con couple of small areas in our room needed spot paint because of touch points around door knobs and light switches
Our sink drained slowly but it may not have been opened completely.
Our upstairs neighbor was quite noisy and seemed to be moving furniture it was so weird but what can you do? I thought to complain but why it would have probably made them scurry even more

Very friendly staff!
