We had such a wonderful time staying at this property! Candace left no stone unturned with the effort to make sure that her guests always feel comfortable. We felt like we were at home even though we were so far away. It was the perfect place to stay for all of our adventures, being close to everything, and ease of access. Highly highly recommend! We will definitely be back.

This property is even more beautiful than the pictures. Candace is an excellent host. Every suggestion she offered proved to be invaluable! The property was immaculate and had everything anyone could need. Also, the fresh eggs and cookies were over the top. If you plan to vacation in the Black Hills, please stay at Hillside Hideaway. You will not be disappointed.

Property was very clean and expertly stocked with anything you might need away from home. Had nice outdoor patio, comfortable king size bed and great water pressure in shower. Host seemed very nice and was easy to reach via text. After a day exploring in the Hills it was a pleasure to return to Hillside Hideaway and relax.

What a fantastic place! Easily the most thoughtful host and most comfortable space we’ve rented. The location was perfect for all the things in the Black Hills. Super quiet, comfortable, and filled with all the comforts of home. Candace made the experience outstanding with recommendations and extra touches like homemade cookies and fresh flowers and eggs. If we could give this 10 stars, we would!

We loved staying at the Hillside Hideaway. It was cozy, comfortable and well-supplied, also very clean with extra amenities like extra jackets if we needed them, towels, blankets and pillows. Our host was easy to contact if we had any questions. The outside area was well-lit for when we came home after dark. We would stay there again if when are every back in the Hills.

Absolutely beautiful little cabin - everything was spotlessly clean and plenty stocked up for our stay. Candace has an absolutely adorable little table of goods you can buy that feature her property (hats, tumblrs, etc) and the funds go to charity if you choose to purchase. The property is very conveniently located within walking distance of downtown Custer, and less than 30 minute drive to the Wildlife Loop entrance of Custer State Park, as well as Mt. Rushmore. Candace also checked in on us a couple times to make sure everything was good with our stay. 5/5 stars all the way around!

Owner lives above unit and obviously takes great pride and care to make sure the unit is well equipped and furnished. Many small and thoughtful touches throughout the unit. Owner was always available if we needed anything. Location was great for exploring the Black Hills and Custer State Park areas. We would definitely recommend this unit and would consider renting again if we return to the area.

We arrived to a perfect and lovely setting for two. The space was just right for us and had everything we needed and then some. Candace has really thought of everything! The location is exacly what we were hoping for, private but within walking distance from town. We were thrilled when she offered some pointers to help us find the buffalo at Custer State Park. Will stay again!!

Candace and her property are wonderful!! She has thought of every comfort to make the stay welcoming, cozy and relaxing. She even had fresh eggs and fruit waiting for us in addition to yummy snacks. She truly is an amazing host.
The property and surrounding area was very quiet and yet minutes walk or drive away from downtown Custer.
Her recommendations for places to visit, eateries, shops and sites in the area were spot on and did not disappoint! We will definitely be back to stay with Candace.

We absolutely loved staying in this rental and Candace has thought of everything. First off it was so clean. The thoughtful touches like free range chicken eggs and butter left in the refrigerator. The basket of snack goodies was also so appreciated. Having the laundry really helped us out with less packing for a two week vacation. A huge highlight was the Doe and their fawns all throughout the area. We would drive the streets in the evening just to see the deer. They do come right up in the yard of the rental but it did not happen when we were there. Candace is a super nice lady to visit with and she even so very kindly gave me a bouquet of flowers in celebration of my one year cancer free anniversary while we were there. Thank you Candace for everything. Your place truly is the best we have ever rented in all of our travels. Thank you again. Carol and Michael

Wonderful apartment! Charming from the moment we parked our car. We chose to stay in Custer for its proximity to the state park and absolutely loved our 4 nights in this town. Several great restaurants, coffee, ice cream, etc. within walking distance from this comfortable, clean, and quiet home base. It had every thing we needed and we were happy to return to its welcoming vibes each evening. Deer grazed daily in the grass on the hillside near the driveway. Wonderful communication from owner. It’s the best Vrbo we’ve rented, hands down.

If you are looking for a lovely and spacious home away from home, this is it! Candace, our host, has thought of EVERYTHING you could possibly need in this clean, quiet, cozy, comfy, well-equipped, and well maintained apartment. It was a pleasure to chat in person with Candace and our communication from start to finish was easy with quick response. The bed was comfortable, the views great, the washer and dryer a very nice convenience, etc. The area is so amazing with much to see and do. Oh, the many pictures we now have to help us remember the wildlife, rock formations, scenic drives, attractions which are too numerous to name! You will not regret your stay at Hillside Hideaway and your visit to Custer and surrounding area. Our best accomodations in MANY years of travel.

Candace was the perfect hostess. She was kind and inviting. Our children left saying Ms. Candace was their friend. Her apartment was beautiful and clean. It was perfect for our family of 4. She had little goodies for the girls and the grownups. She was super responsive to any questions or issues we had. She had plenty of recommendations for anything we wanted to do. We would definitely stay with her again. 100% Recommend!

We stayed for 5 nights. Wish it would have been for longer. The property location is ideal. Convenient to everything Custer has to offer yet you feel like your away from it all. The place is clean, up to date and has the best patio ever! The setting is gorgeous and the views are great. Candace is an amazing host! She really has thought of everything. The place is fully outfitted with everything you will need and she has added some extra comforts that certainly exceeded expectation. Zero question where we will stay on a return visit.

My wife and I were in the area to visit the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore and other sites in South Dakota. We could not have found a better place for us. Candace was most accommodating. At our request she provides a Keurig coffee maker for our enjoyment. The home was located close to the major sites we wanted to visit and close restaurants in town. We certainly would stay in this home if we every plan to visit this area again.

Beautifully appointed home in a fun Custer setting. Wake up to wild turkeys walking down driveway while drinking morning coffee on patio and catch the deer wandering nearby at twilight. Comfy chairs, plenty of space and most comfortable mattress on this trip. Owner has thought of everything to make this the perfect base for area attractions. Will definitely return some time in the future.

Hillside Hideaway met or exceeded the online description of the property in every way, and the location of the property matched perfectly with the Southern Black Hills attractions where we wanted to spend our time. The property was clean with a very comfortable bed. Some unexpected amenities such as shampoo, lotions and toothpaste were available. I now live in northern Minnesota but lived in the Black Hills until moving away at 16 years old. Hillside Hideaway was like coming home and everything about our stay at was wonderful. We will be back.
