Words do not describe this home, the view, or this trip, but I'll do my best!
The house itself was beautiful, spacious, and easily had room for the six of us, with a large fenced backyard for our senior dog Oliver to roam in himself. We spent most of our trip just sitting in the backyard around the fire pit, watching the Geminid meteors pass by, the Milky Way Galaxy in full view across the blackened sky.
This is one of the only dark skies in Texas, and Kushala gave us the perfect home base to explore the area. I truly appreciate that the main house lights out back are dim red so that they don't pollute the view when on (and can be turned off for the ultimate experience).
I recommend you book immediately, and take a few hours to visit Chiso's Basin in the heart of Big Bend. The view of the landscape is immaculate, and really puts the size and diversity of Texas's landscape to the test. You will go from cactus covered desert into full lush wooded mountainside in a matter of minutes.
The owner was beyond communicative, and provided everything needed in the home for cooking meals, which only added to the fun we had with our friends. We all agreed that we would happily come stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay. The house had plenty of room for the six of us to spread out and also plenty of room for us to sit together for dinner and games. The location was a quick drive to Terlingua and Big Bend, which made it perfect for our vacation. The house was well stocked for cooking, and we enjoyed cooking a few nights. The stars were also amazing at night and all in all just the perfect location for our family.

What a great home base to explore the surrounding area - Terlingua, Lahitas, Big Bend and the State Park. The home was quite comfortable with great front and rear porches to watch the sunrises and sunsets. Large kitchen, dining and living spaces so we never felt crowded. Lots of space around the property made it feel like an oasis in the desert. Thanks so much for your hospitality!

Kushala is a great house with a funky vibe! Large enough to accommodate 3 couples comfortably. Star gazing was magnificent and the views from the front and back porch were glorious. We girls enjoyed wandering around the "gate road" and logged over 5 miles near the house while the men golfed at Lajitas. Short drive to Terlingua and Lajitas and the State and National Parks. Would definitely come back with our family for a vacation stay at Kushala.

This house was soooo lovely. The pictures do not do the property justice. The views from the back and front porch are gorgeous and I could have just sat there all day. Great home base for Big Bend adventures - easy drive into the park and into Terlingua. Janet was communicative and check-in and check-out were easy breezy. The house was very clean and roomy. Great for a large group of people meeting up to hang out and enjoy West Texas vibes. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed this house. It had everything we needed for our stay. Air conditioners in almost every room which kept the house quite comfortable during the 108* to 115* weather. It has a nice little yard at the back which is secure for children and pets. You have some area beyond the fence to wander around but not a good place to go hiking and exploring. We went to Big Bend for any of those activities. The pictures on the website didn’t show that there are other small houses on the same property, some sort of close. But didn’t see or hear anyone the week we were there. The local grocery store was well equipped and we were able to find everything we needed.
Overall we had a nice, relaxing stay.
We also got to meet Janet the owner and she was very accommodating and made sure everything was set up for our stay.

Home in the Desert
Pros: The home is located away from neighbors in a very quiet, natural desert setting, and it was the perfect location for driving into Big Bend National Park each day. We loved being outside for phenomenal stargazing each night, and seeing quail, bunnies, and even javelina by the house. We were there during a very hot time, but the air conditioners worked great and kept us comfortable. Our family of 7 had plenty of space to eat in the kitchen and to hang out in the living room. Our hosts were available by text and very easy to communicate with.
Cons: I am guessing that the guests before us were messy. The very first dish we pulled out had food stuck to it - so we felt like we needed to wash dishes before and after we used them. The previous guests may have also left the doors open, because after dark we became aware that the house was full of bugs -- primarily moths, though we also removed at least five good sized spiders and a solpugid. We also found some mantises, a very cute katydid, and a scorpion. It was probably due to people before us leaving the door open, but we also saw that the back door had a gap when closed that would allow small critters to crawl in. We stuffed a dish towel in the gap, and there were fewer bugs each night. In the end, it worked out fine for us, but if sharing the home with some small outdoor friends is a deal breaker for you, this place may not be a good fit (at least until the owners get a new back door or seal the one they have). I will note that the windows seemed to be great quality and the front door was being replaced right after our visit.
