The property owner (Daniel) is in constant communication with you. From the beginning to the last minute, Mirma and Mauricio treat you like family! When it came time to leave we didn't want to leave. Mirma is an amazing cook and she was able to accommodate all of our daughter's food allergies without any trouble AND not sacrificing flavors. Our daughter didn't have any episodes of getting sick which is a huge deal for us. Mauricio is very knowledgeable about the birds, other species, and flora around the property. On our last day, he even took us on a hike that brought us to a trail that is over 400 years old! You will not regret staying here! There is nothing better than waking up in the morning and seeing Cloud Forest, having a cup of GREAT local Ecuadorian Coffee, resting in the multiple hammocks, hiking, learning Cuarenta, having a cerveza(s), going to bed, and seeing a blanket of stars in the sky.

Daniels place was absolutely amazing! Everything from when we arrived to when we left was taken care of. There is a guide on site that takes you exploring all over the area and is an expert in all the wild life. All meals are also taken care of, home cooked and absolutely delicious. The house is very charming and you can tell a lot of work has been put in it to making it feel like home. We cannot wait to stay at Daniels place next time we're in Ecuador!

The place is simply stunning. It's not too far from Nanegalito (around a 30 min drive) and the road to get there is quite good too. The place itself is clean and has that relaxing vibe. There are a few hammocks and wherever you sit the view is remarkable. The food was also delicious. Mauricio (the guide) took us for a walk around the place and we saw a few species of birds including toucans. There are also humming-birds everywhere around the lodge. Definitely worth a visit and we will definitely come back during the bear season.

We had an amazing time at Cerro Campana. The property is amazingly beautiful and easily outshone my trips to Hawaii and Costa Rica. Much more affordable than other eco lodges in the area. Here you will get personal service and will feel like a VIP. If you love birding and great food with a comfy bed and are on a budget, this is a great choice.
Think of this place as a Treehouse Bed and Breakfast with 3 meals a day. The staff will be at the cabin were working hard most of the day. The bed was new and linens extremely clean. The bathroom is on the ground floor while the bedrooms are upstairs, and the hallways are all open to the outdoors, so keep that in mind.
The property is amazing. Mauricio took us on countless hikes to find 45 types of birds, including the spectacled owl. He even found a spectacled bear in a tree for us at the preserve next door. From the porch we saw 10 kinds of hummingbirds at the feeders. The trail to the waterfall and swimming hole is easy and you will want to stay down there all day.
The food was beyond delicious. Mirma made everything vegetarian or fish as requested. You had better come hungry because they feed you a LOT. Dessert twice a day made more hiking necessary! We tasted so many traditional dishes, and the best ceviche and best flan I’ve ever tasted.
The cabin is mostly open to the elements except bedrooms. We used headlamps instead of the overhead lights in our bedroom and the bathroom to keep moths out. I would suggest that the owner change the bulbs to yellow bug lights.
The bathroom definitely needs work. I did not care about the appearance, but the electric shower head kept tripping the breaker and we were in the dark. Perhaps the owner will upgrade this. Also, the bathroom needs sealing to keep out moths. Everything else-- location, service, beds, and food-- was all fantastic. Such a beautiful place with amazing food at a great price.

Nature Lover’s Retreat
Cerro Campana is an incredibly beautiful property! The rustic cabin has comfortable beds and pillows, alfresco dining and views that can’t be beat. The only sound you hear at night is the gentle chirp of the birds and frogs. Mauricio is a wonderful guide who’s happy to share his love of birds and plants of the area. We had excellent food all over Ecuador, but Mirma’s cooking was outstanding! She even rose to the challenge of cooking delicious vegetarian food for me. Mirma and Mauricio made every moment perfect for us. We’ll never forget our four days in the cloud forest, and hopefully will be able to return soon.
As a side note, the only drawback for us was that the bathroom needs updating, but the showerhead provides plenty of hot water. I’d advise hiring a driver to get around; the roads aren’t easy to navigate but it’s worth the trip! It was the perfect end to our time in Ecuador.
