great stay - location supper convenient & the nicest people are working there!

The Clemens is an cute little hotel with a great central location in walking distance to many of the best places to visit (Anne Frank house, Van Gough museum, royal palace), friendly and helpful staff, comfy beds, and a very nice breakfast spread. Be aware, there is no elevator and there are a lot of steep stairs, but the staff is quick to carry your bags up and down those stairs for you. It is not luxurious, but it is clean, comfortable, and more homey than the big name chains. So if you are looking for something a little different while you visit Amsterdam, this hotel could be just what you are looking for. Oh, and you should know that they have two cats who are permanent occupants of the lobby - in case you are allergic to cats.

Great location! One of our party was quite daunted by the steps, but managed. Sami, who greeted us in arrival, was particularly genial and helpful. The breakfasts were good; lovely to have access to coffee and tea at any time. Decaf options would be appreciated (beyond Mango!)
The room for three really is too small for three adults - suitable for a couple with a child maybe. And the bathroom is also too small. (Too late to reconfigure the hotel now!) You should include facecloths with the linens. But we enjoyed our stay!

Quaint hotel with awesome service. We appreciated help with our luggage up and down three very steep sets of stairs. Hot Ed l was clean and well taken care of, staff were kind & helpful. Room and especially bathrooms were very tiny and lighting needed major increases in wattage; it was nearly impossible to see in room and bath tromp due to dim lighting.
Otherwise, well situated and historical place to stay!

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location and breakfast were excellent. The room was very tiny, basically the size of the bed with not even a foot of space on the sides. Stairs are steep however hotel staff helped with our bags.

The hospitality in this hotel was amazing. Upon arriving an employee assisted us with carrying our luggage up their very narrow steps (lots of steps) and offered us a complimentary drink. They served a free breakfast every morning which was a perfect way to start the day. Aside from the many steps this property had, the only other downside was how small the room was. We booked a room for two adults and barely had space for our luggage and to walk around. The hospitality outshined all the cons!

Excellent hotel with super helpful staff

It's a cosy little hotel and well located, 3 min from the Westmarket tram stop that will take you to amsterdam central. Also just literally next to the hotel there's a bike rental shop, so that's very convenient of you want to explore the city by bike. Staff of the shop are very friendly.
The hotel staff was very friendly. My room was very small but comfortable and clean.
The only thing to be mindful of are the extremely steep quite long set of stairs of the entrance. Also had to climb stairs to the floor where my room was. I guess it's just how the stairs of many Dutch houses are and this is probably an old building so it has no lift.
The reception gentleman helped me up with my small suitcase. But If you have a lot of luggage, large luggage, or are someone with any sort of mobility problems, knee pain, or elderly, staying here would be problematic. So in that case find a place with a lift!
The breakfast was included and it was nice. You can also have coffee or tea included in your tarif at any time of day.
I think relation price/quality is pretty good considering how expensive hotels in amsterdam are. I wish I had found this hotel before. The previous night I stayed in in a different place, closer to the center and around the same price, and it was an absolute hellhole (Old quarter hotel, don't stay there).
Ah, Hotel Clemens also has two adorable cats hanging out in the lobby, which for me is a plus for sure! Pet with caution!

The staff was very helpful and friendly!

The staff were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was great! The 24-7 coffee was really nice. Loved spending time with the resident cats!
4.5
Fantastic staff, single room is more a punishment than a room, if you are 180 cm+ you wont fit in the bed, no place to keep your luggage in the room.
Beakfast is great and the staff is fantastic, but the hotel is just toooooo expensive for what it is.
4.5
We enjoyed our stay. The stairs were a bit intimidating. However the hotel workers were more than willing to carry our bags up and down.

Great location, friendly staff, steep stairs!

What a gem of a place. I was a little sceptical from the street as I imagined it to was going to be outdated and noisey inside but it was anything but.
Climbing the (steep) stairs to receiption we received a warm welcome from the staff who were being supervised by one of the resident cats. We checked in and were offered a drink and for our bags to be stored as we were early.
Returning later, our bags had already been taken to our room on the top floor for us. The room itself had all the things you need and none of the things you don't need. It was a little compact but that's to be expected in most European city centre locations. The room and bathroom were modern, clean and well maintained.
Breakfast was continental style and had a good variety of different dishes to try. There are two balcony areas adjacent the breakfast room with pleasant views watching the world go by.
We stayed for 2 nights and would happily return or recommend this to other travellers. The only potential downside would be the steep stairs, two flights are needed to get to the rooms and this may deter some visitors. For everyone else, what are you waiting for?
Having stayed in hotels with 3, 4 and 5 stars I have to say that it was the friendliness of the staff which makes the difference here and Clemens Hotel punches above its weight.

73 steps straight up; that's the hard part (if you're on the 3rd floor); but the staff takes care of hauling your luggage up and down so that's great; small rooms but we had 3 in a room and it wasn't too bad; I forget everything in Europe is on a smaller scale than in the US; nice little breakfast; staff went out of their way to make our stay very pleasant; great location for public transportation, lots of restaurants, shopping, sites, close by; just don't go on King's Day, whatever you do, don't go that day

We absolutely loved our stay at the Clemens Hotel. Charming, welcoming and right in the heart of things and walkable to museums and sites. We wanted a hotel with authentic flavor and Clemens hit the mark 100%!

Very cozy. Staff superb. Breakfast great. Location perfect.

The Clemens is very well located, close to the canals, Anne Frank house, etc. The staff was extremely nice and friendly, leaving treats and finding restaurants for us. It has a nice continental breakfast and a cozy sitting area with balcony. The room was small, but that is usual in Europe. Beds were comfy. Bathroom was really tiny. The 37 very Dutch steps were very steep, so if you have ambulating issues, consider staying somewhere else. The staff was very helpful handling the luggage up and down the stairs. I thought the price was steep… but all hotels in Amsterdam are!!

We had an amazing time at Hotel Clemens! The room was perfect, had a nice view and wonderful amenities. The breakfast was delicious and the staff, including resident kitties, were very kind, helpful and welcoming. Will stay again the next time I visit!

A wonderful place to stay in every respect - comfortable, clean, centrally located, charming - and two lovely cats as a bonus! A great value! Will definitely be back!
4.5
The staff were so exceptionally welcoming, they really made you feel like you were part of the family, they carried our bags up amd down the stairs when we came and when we left and yes there were alot of stairs but that was the only downside, the room was clean and the central location was perfect, would definitely stay there again in a heartbeat.
4.5
We had a wonderful stay and would stay again if in Amsterdam. Lots of charm and heart. The front desk was so helpful and kind and had the hospitality of a more expensive hotel. Really nice spread for a continental Breakfast. We had gluten and dairy intolerances in our group and they had options available for both. You definitely need to be in good shape as the stairs are steep and there is no avoiding them. They did come running to grab our bags when we arrived which was very nice. The stairs did mean that we stopped back less times in the day though. Our triple room was jusssst big enough for three of us but you would want to be very close to the people you are traveling with, the room sizes are that of a standard small bedroom. If you are looking for a clean affordable place to launch off busy travel days from this is the perfect place.

Lovely little hotel . Friendly staff . Conveniently located . Make sure u don’t take huge luggage because as soon as you open the door to the hotel you are climbing up a lot of stairs. It’s narrow and steep

Service it was all about service

This hotel is fantastic! The service from the staff is excellent, they are so friendly and helpful. The hotel has a homely feel and there are two resident cats which I loved! Reception is open 24/7 and the staff can store your luggage if you arrive early or leave late, and still want to go out and explore. There are many stairs and no lift, which was not a problem for me, but something to consider if you have mobility issues.
My room was small but clean, cosy and fine for just myself. I had a garden view and the room was very quiet. Breakfast was included and there is tea, coffee and snacks available 24/7. The hotel is very safe and secure and is in walking distance of Dam Square, the shops, canal cruises, the central train station and many other points of interest.
I recommend this hotel and would stay here again when in Amsterdam.

Staff were very helpful with carrying luggage up the stairs. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The blonde man who checked me in was really nice - a wonderful man.
The bed was comfortable, and the sheets felt nice and clean.
Basic breakfast that was nice enough. Blueberries are my favourite. The coffee from the machine was splendid.
I didnt mind the stairs.
4.5
This was a wonderful hotel! Great staff! Excellent service! Oh those stairs though ☺️☺️☺️☺️

We chose this hotel because it was walking distance to many things we wanted to see in Amsterdam. A bonus was that a train stop is only a block away so you can easily get anywhere.
We arrived on a red eye flight and got to the hotel before noon. We had hoped to just sit in the lobby and play cards for a couple of hours. However - they offered us brunch and got our room ready within an hour so we got a much needed afternoon nap before our canal tour!
We didn’t realize there would be such a steep stair climb but that is not uncommon in the area. The room had what we needed but don’t expect extra space.
Would stay here again!
They have 2 nice cats. If you have a cat allergy, that could be an issue.

I only stayed for a long weekend, but found the hotel to be quaint, clean & conveniently located. Staff were friendly and answered questions, lobby was large and decorated for Christmas (& had lots of local info), and the included daily breakfast was plentiful. The room itself was a modest size in comparison to US hotels but, nothing out of the ordinary for European standards. There was a booklet with information about the history of the hotel in the room which I thought was a really nice touch. I read the reviews & was knew to expect all of the stairs, so they weren’t bothersome; I was on the second floor with about 60 steps to get to my room.
4.5
We liked the location, free coffee all day and the sitting area provided in the main lobby.
4.5
Beware the stairs! Other than the extremely steep stairs up to the lobby and then again up to the guest floors, this was a charming hotel with gracious and accommodating staff. Breakfast was delightful, the location was eminently walkable and yet quiet, and we would be very happy to stay here again.
4.5
Great location! The breakfast was ok, but the eggs were REALLY runny and we were a bit scared to eat them! The rooms were very small! The employees were lovely- so kind!
4.5
Great stay - super staff- thanks much
4.5
Charming hotel in historic area. The stairs cannot be overstated!! I honestly would suggest that if you have a checked bag, pick a hotel not in the historic area as they all have very steep stairs. The a/c in the room was spotty at best, BUT the owner was so friendly, charming, and accommodating!!
4.5
Very nice stay. Staff was very helpful, especially bringing our luggage up the stairs and to our room. Great recommendations from the staff on where to eat and things to do in the area...
4.5
A nice hotel and very helpful staff. Traffic outside is very noisy and the streets are busy until 2am or later. Ear plugs will help you enjoy this well located hotel.
4.5
I came on a solo trip after spending 2 nights in a hostel - they let me check in early and the room was so clean! The staff was so friendly and the other people staying were so quiet. I stayed in the single bed and it was SMALL! Coming from someone in NYC, it was small! But it was everything I needed, I couldn’t find something to complain about. Would recommend this to a friend or family member :) also location was great! Lots of great bars, restaurants, Anne Frank house is a block away. You can sit on the balcony for breakfast which is nice and cozy!
4.5
There are 37 very steep stairs to climb up to the hotel service desk on the 1st floor.
Not for people who have mobility issues.
4.5
The entry required walking up 25+ stairs to the lobby. The staff took bags up and down and were very friendly but the stairs were a challenge. We also had to climb more stairs to our room which was very small. The location was great but the effort up and down and the small room left us disappointed.
