Room desperately needs an update! Peeling paint in the bathroom was an instant turn off. Dated carpet and furniture. Can’t beat the location however.

Came to Chicago to show my partner around where I used to live and wanted to be settled in a good area for a moderate price and luckily found The Whitehall; what an amazing bang for your buck in such a desirable neighborhood and to top it off the hotel room was very nice and incredibly comfortable. The staff was very nice at the front desk and incredible helpful. Me and my partner were very happy with the accomodations and after a long day of sightseeing couldn't wait to relax and unwind in the comfort of our room. Would definitely book again at The Whitehall in the future.

Great location, comfy beds and the friendliest service! Would stay again!

Location is perfect for the price. It’s near the upscale side where all the high end restaurants and retailers are. And you can walk to a lot of places nearby. The hotel itself is outdated and lacked basic amenities and the shower pressure was not good.

Great rate but hotel needs a refresh.

The lady who checked me in at the front desk around 11 pm was great. the bed was great, the drape was good which blocked all the light from the street view. I guess the location was great as well since it's right across the street from Four Seasons Hotel. However, the bathroom area was terrible. There are clear pee spots on the toilet top. Water leaks severely over the night every 30 minutes to 40 minutes in the bathtub. I was too tired and I had to wake up at 7:30 am in the morning so I had to use earplugs to not wake up when the water leaking made noise.

Great location and views of the city facing Michigan Avenue. No amenities in room or in the building. Hotel is VERY dated. Adjacent restaurant with very limited hours and did not see any patrons there. Most front desk people were nice but not over friendly or attentive. I’m sure it was amazing back in the day but needs help now- ok at best

Lovely hotel. Overall no issues other than the room was very dry so we had to drink lots of water in the night.
Bed was so comfy!
Hotel bar was very nice.

Felicia at the front desk was so helpful! She was able to check me in early and upgraded my room due to my VIP status. It’s something I didn’t even know I could do!

Front desk staff was amazing. We loved our room and the girls loved they could see American girl from their window

Very quick and easy check in and friendly staff

Fantastic hotel! Very clean and in a great location! The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel for visitors and will be coming back for sure!

Good nice view

The room was outdated and the wall paper and paint were peeling!! For the price we paid I thought that was atrocious! The bed was comfortable fortunately!!

You have to call them every day to turn the hot water on. After they act like they don’t have an idea of what it’s going on, then magically the water start to turn hot. People in the front desk hate guest, plain and simple. The Hotel is old but cozy and has a great location.
After being a client for 20 years they finally achieved their goal. I am never going back.
I guess I did give them another chance because of old good memories. But no more.

The hotel was dated but nice. Hotel marketing featured “laundry” which is why we chose it. That was a lie, there is an expensive laundry service available but nowhere to do laundry, no laundromat in the area.

Was told the parking was included but we had to pay $55 extra for one night

Overall, a pretty clean and seemingly sophisticated hotel. But this place is in serious need of an update. At least as far as I can tell from my room (#909) ... but the elevators and other parts seem to show similar antiquity.
However, in my room the AC didn't work, the refrigerator didn't work, there were virtually no modern plug/outlet options for charging my tech. Probably about half of the actual outlets (buried behind desks and night stands, even worked. The bathroom looked like something out of the rat-pack era. (There was an actual phone in the bathroom! Case closed, lol.) So, all told - I'm not sure what ownership plans on doing, but this hotel has the look and feel of a once-vibrant place, but now seems to just be an echo of a better time. A real-time dinosaur.

The hotel is average, the room is a little tight, the air filter was very dirty. TV and fridge didn’t work so I had to call the front desk to send someone to fix the issue. Maintenance guy came, he was very kind and he did fix the TV and then someone brought an extra fridge which we were able to use.

Guest service was pretty short, but the location is great for touring the city. Rooms were nice, bathroom is quite small.
4.1
The bathrooms were too small and not enough outlets in the walls for our phones

Hotel was very nice, clean, great location and exceptional customer service.
I will say I was not a fan of the pillows, way to soft, but that is a personal preference.

Great old hotel in a fantastic location!

Was not a good first time experience. After a long tiring 6 hour travel. I get to the hotel which I pre checked in prior to my arrival to find out I still had to check in when I got there. When I get to the front desk the young lady who was on duty was on which seems to be a person call and though we was only 2 feet apart. She did not even acknowledge that I was there. It literally took her 7-8 minutes to say anything to me. That was the first issue. When I finally get my room I go there and I noticed that 90% of the room did not have power. I do what any normal person who do call the front desk. I explained to the same lady what was going on in the room she made it seem like I did not know how to turn on a switch. She pretty much told me I was not doing it correctly. I had to tell her to come to the room to see. When she noticed that there was no power she moved my room. The next room that she put me and she personally walks we to it. Has no air and it smells musty! She then tells me that all I need to do is lower the temp and it should be ok! I gave her the benefit of the doubt. After 2 hours I returned back and the room is still over 80 degrees. I call the front desk and explain to her that the air is not working she tells me know way. Like I would be making this up. Finally a tech comes and works on it and gets it started. 2 hours later it stops. At this point I wait for day light. I go bk 2 the front desk explain my situation then they move me back too the room w/no pwr

Very helpful and accomodating.

I enjoyed my stay here. Other than some wear and tear - most notably the bathrooms ceilings are peeling quite a lot - it was a clean comfortable stay. The mattresses were so comfortable. The offsite valet parking across the street was very convenient. I would recommend and stay again!

The Whitehall is a quaint little hotel in downtown Chicago. It has a great deal of potential, but needs some attention. A renovation would be in order. The physical plant is very dated, and could use a fresh coat of paint, and new carpet. The bathroom needs some attention as well.
The staff is absolutely amazing, and I mean absolutely AMAZING! They are on the spot when needed, attended to even the smallest of details, and presented a very positive and professional attitude. They really seemed to care, and this is important!
Hats off to the management and staff for a "can do" approach to their jobs!
Honestly, with a make over, this could be one of, if not the, finest hotels in downtown. The location is fantastic, and it is close to restaurants, as well as the Magnificent Mlie.

Nice spot right off the magnificent mile. Some features are small including the elevators.

There was a band aid in the bed. A/C was not really controllable in the room. Always hot when we returned.

Great place, great location! We stay here every 3 months. The staff is super awesome. The rooms however are starting to get a little run down. Wall paper coming off, desk chairs ripped, our tv dresser was scrapped up. I’d say minor touch ups, but still great.

A/c was loud. Can wake you up at night

Super room. Very clean and the bed is very confortable. The only little thing is the wifi is slow and sometimes it doesnt work.
4.1
As usual, the staff is top notch and responsive. I always feel welcome. Room was lovely.

I loved this hotel, but my only complaint is that I could not adjust the thermostat, and my room was a little too toasty. Besides that, everything was fabulous!
4.1
I think this is a great hotel to stay at if you are not fussy about your room. The location was awesome- a break away from the chaos of downtown but still walking distance to Lake Michigan, lots of shopping and restaurants right around the hotel, about a 15-20min walk to get to the pier and main tourist area with the river/bridges/skyscraper’s. Also right across the street from Chicago 360. The staff was always friendly and helpful, we found everything to be clean. The downside is that the place really needs some Reno’s- paint peeling in the bathroom, shower faucet would pull right off the wall every time we started the water, and the AC banged like a washing machine sometimes making it hard to sleep! But if you want a great location and comfortable bed this is a very good option!

Hotel was dirty. Noticed right away in elevator that carpet unclean. The upholstered stool in room was frayed. Time for an update of this old, established hotel.

The hotel was clean helpful and convenient

It was really convenient to stay there near all the restaurants and anything I needed. I was in a room that probably needed a remodel. I think for what I payed , it was more pricey than I would have paid before. Restaurant connected to Whitehall was awesome. Reasonably priced . There was a seventy five dollar fee attached to the bill. This is for incident or any. I just thought another charge. I again like the areas and certain things about it but may choose another next time.

Great Location. Comfortable beds. Staff not friendly. Furniture and Bathrooms need maintenance.
4.1
If you are looking for a place to stay and you can get a good/great deal on a room it’s just alright. If all you need is a place to sleep location is great. Hotel however is very underwhelming. We asked to have our room cleaned, they didn’t do it. Just threw towels in our room. Nothing special here, so just expect that if you stay.
