Good, old fashioned guesthouse in an excellent location. Good for walking and restaurants.

I arrived late and left early but Sharyn and the team made sure my short stay was very comfortable and thank you for the upgrade! much appreciated. Would highly recommend!

Had a lovely stay in The Gables and would definitely return. Couldn’t say one bad thing about anything, the room was beautiful and so clean, had everything we needed. Our breakfast was also lovely, as were the owners/staff. Couldn’t recommend it anymore!

Very welcoming and friendly; efficient COVID setup which worked well. Really liked the cooked breakfasts and many thanks to the breakfact team for looking after me so well.
Good location; <5 minutes walk into Ambleside town centre with lots of restaurants etc, and straight onto Loughrigg Fell via the churchyard and Rothay Park.
Only minor quibble is the lack of assigned parking (very small car park, but there are some spaces outside the entrance which are available on a first come first served basis. Would definitely stay here again.

Overall a good experience although the room photo that we saw on VRBO for the price we paid would have been fair, but the room allocated on arrival was tiny in comparison!

They should not have opened as they treated us like lepers, they were so paranoid, we felt so unwelcome!! Breakfast was a cold bacon or sausage roll, left outside your room in a bag, dry no butter, they said they had no sauce either??? Upon leaving, didnt even ask if we had a good stay, as they kept out of the way, im appalled at the way we were treated!!!

Very comfortable guest house with friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfasts.

Nicely central for the town. A small car park but we had no problem parking. If it was full you would struggle due to the obvious parking restrictions in the town. Both the room and the en-suite were reasonably spacious on the top floor, and very clean. Considering that our room faced the main road it was surprisingly quiet at night. The cooked breakfast was very tasty, with cereals also available, but no fresh fruit on offer. There were various canned type fruits though. Service was 'with a smile' which is always good!

The guesthouse is situated in a sidestreet opposite a recreation ground and near a church, so is quiet compared to the main road nearby which was busy with non-stop traffic due to the Easter holiday when I stayed. I booked a single room but was upgraded to a double-bed room upon arrival. The view from the window was pleasant, overlooking the sidestreet, church and recreation ground. The breakfasts were good on all 4 mornings of my stay, with plenty to choose from. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I was able to park my small car in the car-park, but there was no spare space at all, what with it being busy at Easter.

Perfect location, friendly and attentive individual service without a hint of fuss. Nice rooms - one had a beautiful view. And a cracking breakfast! Short walk up the nearest hill revealed one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen (but I should probably credit Windermere with that!) This was a working trip to show our film at the lovely nearby cinema but I will be back with my family. Thank you!

An enjoyable stay at the Gables, close to the town centre, with comfortable rooms and good breakfasts. Also had a boot room which was useful after a wet days walk

I stayed here one night while out running on the fells. The room was clean and everything was cosy and well-maintained. The shower was very nice. The staff were chatty, helpful and friendly. Perfect for me to be comfortable and happy for the night. I would definitely come back. They had a good basic breakfast and even had gluten free options.

Lovely breakfast with generous portions. Parking not guaranteed unless you book with them direct.

Got told we could not park in carpark as we had booked with expedia so had to park in mud and puddles opposite even though there were spaces available.car was in a right state covered in bird droppings leaves and small branches as we drove away had to go straight to car wash.room nothing like photos top floor on a noisy busy road.noisy bed and toilet that took a lifetime to refill.extension lead for kettle not long enough so when you boiled kettle and lifted it off the base would always fall on the floor doors banging at 7 am .light on outside tge room on all night coming through under the door lighting up the room.a do not disturb sign was there but as no handle on door or anywhere to hang it not much point having it really

Was advertised as a B&B, but was really a small hotel badly in need of remodeling. Room was very small. Staff was unfriendly. There was not enough room to seat everyone for breakfast and we were told to come back in a half hour. When we went back, most food was gone. THERE IS NOWHERE TO PARK A CAR.

We stayed for two nights for a walking break, midweek in May/June.
The property is quite centrally located in Ambleside, which is a small place. There was no parking close by but I found a 6pm-10am street parking spot about 100 meters away. Check in was a breeze as we were a bit late and the key was left for us. Room was bright and clean with a good shower/sink en suite room. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was a very good full English with quite a few options for continental including toast, grapefruit, yoghurt etc. The coffee was excellent (I live in the US most of the time and English coffee isn't always great).
The Inn is associated with a restaurant close bay (Sheila's) and we had a good meal there on the first night. Ambleside is quite small but has quite a few eating options as well as a few pubs. Second night we had a great meal at Lucy's.
Overall, highly enjoyable and recommended. We would definitely stay again.

Great hotel. Lovely waitress breakfast service with great choice.

A very comfortable stay in a lovely part of Ambleside with a great breakfast. Only slight quibble was that it was a bit pricy for a B&B although my stay was on a busy week-end.
4.4
A clean and comfortable hotel, convenient for buses and restaurants, but in a quiet neighbourhood. Breakfast was quite adequate - though, as is normal in that area, only available from 8:30 am.
4.4
Room available for bikes.
Quite expensive for the place and room provided.

Excellent breakfast.
Very friendly staff (Bit too jolly for me first thing in the morning!) but better than being miseable first thing like me.

Our stay at The Gables was very enjoyable. The owners are very welcoming and accomodating. The family room was surprisingly large compared to previous places we have stayed at. Parking is limited however there is also on street parking which is free after 18.00 until 10.00 the following day. Located in the centre of Ambleside it is easy to walk to local restaurants. English breakfasts are fresh cooked for each guest with enough to keep you going all day. Additionally a fridge is provided for guests use which is a nice touch. Would thouroughly recommend it.
