Great city stay. Fabulous central hotel with lovely staff. Beautiful warm, clean room. Exactly what we wanted for our break

I booked a suite but when I went into the bathroom I found that it had not been cleaned, soap still in the soap dish, and overflowing bin. I was going out and was short on time, complained to the manager who quickly offered a complimentary breakfast and free car park. I asked if they would transfer my bags to the new room due to my lack of time. On my return the room was a basic (much cheaper) but to my dismay the bathroom was filthy, floor was disgusting, shower had hair in it and towel rail rusting. The carpet was stained, bed clean fortunately. I complained in the morning and was told that "they were sorry!" I mentioned that this is the worst hotel thst I have stayed in for years and my breakfast/car park was no saving due to the room down grade...again 'they are sorry!" Not acceptable and am going to take this further!

Nice room but tv did not work it said weak signal, location of hotel fab. We were surprised to learn as we were staying at hotel we had to pay £10 to park, breakfast good.

Great location and comfortable beds but the rooms need to be refurbished

The beds were tired, the shower leaked into the bedroom and the bathroom extractor fan went on for 40 minutes.
On the plus side great location, desk staff were very friendly and parking was secure

I recently stayed at the St Giles on a business trip. Couldn't fault the people who work there, absolutely everyone I interacted with was wonderful. Areas for improvement: one of the light bulbs wasn't working in the room and hadn't been changed, and the lighting in the room in general was very dark when trying to work. There were no accessible plug sockets in the room to plug my laptop in - again tricky when working. I ended up doing a zoom call sat on the floor plugged into a socket under a dressing table (not desk) by unplugging the fridge because of a lack of access. I accept the hotel is old but these are really basics that most people will need and so perhaps thought to renovating with the end user in mind might be useful. The TV didn't work properly for poor signal which is easily resolved. The water took a considerable time to warm up which is fine if you're not in a hurry to get somewhere. All in all, if you're going to Norwich for a leisurely trip and not in a hurry then this hotel is probably for you. If you need efficiency and the ability to work it's probably not the best choice.

Beautiful building but a lot of money for what we ended up with. The room was dirty and not well maintained. The bathroom needs a serious update. A shame because the building is beautiful but there’s clearly no money being spent on the upkeep. Won’t be coming here again.

Good quality room and an excellent environment. Close to historic parts of Norwich.

Had to hunt for receptionist for quite some time, approaching 10 mins. Found a body eventually and receptionist arrived. Very efficient check in and service after that. Bathroom v basic. Breakfast not too good. Felt that manager was trying hard but some staff perhaps needed more training.

A little tired. Bathroom needed an upgrade.

It was relatively expensive and bit eccentric, a blend of stylish and unloved. Shower was tired and old. Would stay again if other options not available.

This was more “barebones” than it appears in photos. A bit worn, but clean and the staff was very kind and helpful.

Fantastic value for money hotel right in the centre of Norwich - as long as you’re staying midweek? It’s not perfect - my room was looking a little tired and that was after an upgrade. You have to expect a few minor issues but you’re supporting an independent hotel.
There is car park right in the middle of town which can be a challenge to reach. The entrance from the car park isn’t too grand and it’s a guess where the reception is.
It needs a bit of money spending on it and could do with a chef in the evening but I’m guessing they’ll get there. The staff are all very helpful and an asset to the hotel. I will be staying at St Giles again.

Beautiful hotel in central Norwich!

We stayed in the grand suite for one night.
On entering the suite there was a smell of bad drains. One of the bathrooms was locked and we were not allowed the key. The shower room had a blocked sink and the toilet seat was poor quality plastic and had to be held up by hand when using. The upholstery in the sitting room was badly stained and ripped. The furniture was of poor quality. There was damp in several areas. The bedding was flimsy. The wood flooring was unstable in places. The windows were single glazed and allowed traffic noise during the night. There were no robes or slippers. Toiletries were underwhelming.
We complained immediately and asked to see the manager or for her to contact us. We were told that was not possible and that we must contact her by email. This we did but she did not have the courtesy to reply.
Breakfast service was poor and the food average.
The hotel had an air of neglect.
We have since learned that the “St Giles House Hotel” is up for sale.

Booked a suite for £265. It was filthy. It was dark when we arrived. Had I seen the Urine stained mattress with no protector before going to bed, I would not have stayed in that room/hotel. General lack of cleaning throughout. Bathroom dirty. Blinds thick with dust. Filthy windowsills. Months of dirt. Bed was 2 mattresses together and so worn that I was rolling into the middle. £265 wow. Only positives were locality, parking. Breakfast not great. I could go on. Please see the photos. Reception staff lovely - apologies received but nothing they could do as paid for via Hotels.com. Got the impression I was one of many who’d given this feedback. Would not recommend.

I booked it for colleagues and they were very underwhelmed. It wasn't clean, it was cold and it was not well maintained, apparently.

Appreciate the building and therefore rooms are old but the junior suite definitely needed a tidy up ie paint on the walls.
There were stains on the throw on the bed and the floor was incredibly dusty.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. Good size room and en suite. Service was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very conveniently located for the city centre shops, pubs and restaurants. The breakfast was excellent, a good selection on the continental and a good freshly cooked full English breakfast.

Large comfortable room. Bathroom could do with a refresh, . Water stains on ceilings from leaks need to be painted over. Air con good but loud.

Such a shame... lovely building but let down by overall scruffy state and very poor maintenance ... the bathroom was even poorer than the bedroom.

This is the second time I have stayed at this beautiful hotel. It's old and steeped in history. I stayed in the 'old part' this time, which is full of features and antique furniture. I had a huge bathroom, complete with a free standing bath and enough space for at least 10 people!
The thing that is always, always great about St Giles are the staff. They just can't do enough for you from the moment you get there. All so friendly! Well worth a stay.

Lovely hotel, central to the town. We were seeing a comedian at the Playhouse and it was only a 10 minute walk away. Bed was comfortable and good sized shower. Breakfast was delicious.

Very disapointed with this hotel. Looked very promising from outside and the entrance lobby seemed quite upmarket.
Our room was awful with a horrid view of grafftied fencing. We were given a very dated and basic, disabled, bathroom. Horrible.
The bar is very dated and no atmosphere, although the barmaid was very helpful and pleasant.
Got checked out by a young lady with a moustache ! ? Bizare.
We were charged for parking !!!
We wouldn't use this hotel again.

Great hotel in the centre of Norwich.

The room, a junior suite , had furnishings that didn’t look as if they had been cleaned. The curtain was broken. The floor hasn’t a couple of peanuts on it and a used plaster from some ones wound. The toilet leaked and needs to be mended while I was there including a wait while they bought the spare part needed.
The reception bar and breakfast staff were excellent however.

The room was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is great just 10 mins to the centre and the massage i had was exceptional !

Best hotel in Norwich. Tastefully decorated and comfortable. Best eggs Benedict I've had for some time at breakfast.

One of the cups in the room was cracked. The bathroom was very dirty - shower cubicle leaked. Limescale corrosion everywhere. Sink didn't hold water. As you look around this room the floor was also mucky, the loo brush holder was in a state - glad I didn't have to touch it. The wardrobe door kept opening, it would not shut - I had to sleep with the lamp on as I could have injured myself if I had to get out of bed during the night. One of the wooden arms on a chair kept coming adrift. The carpet was very dirty. On the list of items on the mini-bar, it stated 2 bags of crisps and 2 bags of nuts - in fact there was only one of each, I did point this out to the receptionist when booking out, she altered the list to read one of each. We noted that the tables we sat at for breakfast were sticky and had obviously not been cleaned properly. The floor was also very dusty. Generally the price we paid for the room was way too much. We would definitely not go the this hotel again.

The room itself was cozy and spacious. The bathroom definitely needs an update. The staff at reception were friendly, but we thought it was unnecessary to charge guests for parking in their parking lot. We also expected help with luggage up to the room, which was not offered. This is definitely not a 4 start hotel but you get what you pay for. It's located perfectly in the city centre of Norwich.
