About this house rental
We are looking to welcome guests again following Hurricane Helene flooding in the area.
Our house has power, wifi and water (boil advisory). The area is still recovering and all guests must be respectful of that process. This includes conserving water and bringing your own water for cooking and drinking. Guests are encouraged to bring all necessary supplies rather than getting them locally where others are in need.
As we figure things out we temporarily have a 5-night minimum in effect and all are welcome. If you need shorter stay arrangements please reach out via VRBO.
You'll feel at home at the Blue Walnut House, a freshly updated cottage in "The Gem of the Mountains".
There is a spacious living room with plenty of seating and a gas fireplace. We know coffee is essential and have a dual coffee maker, and regular coffee. and a gas range/oven in our fully stocked kitchen for those chef types. We have smart TV's in the living room and one bedroom. There is of course free wifi and a dedicated workspace/desk.
There is an on-site washer and dryer for your convenience.
Bathroom safety and cleanliness is a top priority. There are accessibility-friendly grab bars next to the toilet and shower and an anti-slip bathtub basin.
Parking is free and available in the driveway and on the street.
The carport has a 240 volt EV charger outlet available for guests with electric vehicles. We do not provide a charging cable. Photo of the outlet included in this listing.
A smartlock keypad is located on the front door for simple keyless entry and self-check-in. The code will be provided to you prior to your check-in time. The code is different for each guest.

We had a girlfriend's vacay here. The home is lovely and they had thought of everything! The neighbors were very friendly. We want to stay here again

I enjoyed my stay at this VRBO, it really is a cute little gem off the beaten path. Very private with safe neighbors. I stayed there while attending Penland class. It's a close drive and I enjoyed being able to unwind from a daily classroom instruction at Penland.

Blue Walnut is a lovely home conveniently located near downtown Spruce Pine. The owners were accommodating and friendly. They were quick to respond to any questions. I recommend this property to anyone wanting visiting Spruce Pine.

House was just as described with everything you need. Communication from owner was excellent. We were in town for a wedding but would stay here again if ever back in the area

Owners thought of most everything in this home. Good tools, dishes etc in kitchen. Having laundry for a longer stay (nearly 2 weeks for me) very helpful. Varied art with credits in the “area folder”, record player with something for all, ample linens and basics made for a very homey stay. Quiet neighborhood and good proximity to town. Host checked in and communicated very well. Would stay again for sure! Grateful and felt right at home

I took my kids for a few days of bird watching and found this little gem in Spruce Pine. It was centrally located to the places we wanted to explore. Spruce Pine has a small downtown with restaurants and taverns. It’s close to Burnsville and sits between Asheville and Blowing Rock as well.
The house was comfortable and well equipped. All the drawers and doors in the kitchen were labeled so you can find what you need easily. There are mini-split air handlers in the main parts of the house for dialing in your comfort level. The WiFi was easy to access and the home was comfortable overall. The owner was in contact several times to check in on us and see if we needed anything. So big thumbs up for that! Enjoyable stay!!

Quiet neighborhood, close to restaurants and post office and library and highway. Very nice appliances (A/C, oven, washer, dryer, coffee maker). We spent the days at the Penland art school, which is about a ten minute drive away.

We only stayed for two nights for a mini birthday trip but it was a great time! Loved the older build of the house but it also had all the up to date things to make it cozy and comfortable. Definitely a great place to stay if just you or a small family.

This was a perfect find for a trip to help out my family. We normally stay further up in the mountains but on this occasion I needed to be close to the kids' schools and this worked out perfectly. Great little house that was super clean with a very well-stocked kitchen! I really appreciated the charging stations in the bedroom! Finding plugs in older houses is sometimes a challenge. Very close to restaurants in Spruce Pine. Would definitely recommend if you want to be right in Spruce Pine as your home base.

We enjoyed our stay in this cute home. Everything was as described and comfortable. I and a co-worker were in the area for work and spent most of our time at work but the home was great for relaxing at the end of each day. Thank you for your hospitality.

Well stocked and clean and a cute historic home. Adult kids stayed there as we live nearby. They had nothing but compliments about the property.

The house was super easy to find, recently renovated, and clean with well kept linens and charming decor. The neighbor, Holt, is precious and welcoming, as was the neighborhood cat, Thor (likes to talk, do not pet, Thor has seen things in his life ;-) ) The garden is lovely and location is convenient if you’re in town to go mining. It’s a VERY small town with a lot of commercial/welding/machine shops etc but this street is residential and street lights and surrounding neighbors make it feel safe. We arrived on Sunday and FYI many restaurants were closed ( some through Tuesday or Wednesday) so plan ahead. We ate at the Chalet in little switzerland and breakfast at the 50’s diner a few blocks down. Both were lovely- Diner was what waffle house would be if your Rotary was running it, Chalet was delicious and views were amazing, meals 27-45$ and priced appropriately to the quality.
We were asked to strip our beds to the laundry room (and kitchen cleaning requests that weren’t relevant for us) and take our trash out, but there were no trash bags and the can lid was covered in chiggers… so I scrounged together a Walmart bag and took my trash with me. That was a little bit irritating, because a cleaning fee is included… But it didn’t ruin the stay and I would absolutely rent this house again. We didn’t use the kitchen, so can’t comment on appointments but the laundry room seemed nice. Bathroom was clean and bright with good towels, shampoo and soap provided.

My sister and I had to return to our hometown on family Business. This house was actually on the street I grew up on. It was so good to be back home and in such an inviting house. It has everything you need. The kitchen is well stocked, as well as the bathroom. It is in a quiet neighborhood and yet close to everything you might need. You will not be disappointed if you decide to stay here.
