When a serious problem emerged, no one at Hotel Histórico took responsibility. No hotel management available.
There is no visible sign on the street to indicate that this is a hotel.
Stay at your own risk!

Where to start with this hotel experience...
Our bus was delayed into Guatemala City which meant we didn't arrive at the hotel until 10pm. Luckily our taxi driver hung around and helped us find this place. There is nothing on the front of the building which identifies it as a hotel.
Secondly, once they answered the doorbell they said they were full. Luckily after showing a reservation they invited us in whilst they made some calls. With 15 minutes we were being whisked away in a car to another hotel. So credit where credits due they did sort it out and ending up in the same hotel chain but closer to the historic centre.
However, luckily it was late and after a near 12 hour bus we didnt care too much where we were because the room was very poor and only provided a fleece blanket as a sheet... It makes my skin crawl thinkong about it. Finally, we had a bit of time before our next transfer so we wanted to explore the city but unfortunately we werent allowed to leave our bags! Wbich really was the cherry on the cake.

The cleanliness of this place was zero to none. Pretty sure the tub had not been cleaned in weeks if not months. There was rubbish and hair in the tub from the previous guests. On top of that the shower head had some sketchy power running to it that actually shocked us during a shower. The location was great and close to town but we would never stay there again. Management had zero information about the area. And above all they charged us extra because apparently "Expedia" only charged for 1 person not 2 in the one room. Would not recommend this place. Save yourselves the trouble and spend a little more cuz cheap isn't worth it here.

I was in contact with the hotel the whole day. I arrived in the afternoon to the city and told the hotel that I am hungry will go find something to eat and then go to the hotel. They confirmed. I went to the hotel first the sign says another name. Second after waiting half an hour outside this guy comes out and speaks to the taxi telling him they are fully booked!!! At 7 pm in the night I was left with no place to go.

DO NOT GO TO THIS “HOTEL”. We arrived at the location and address provided by Expedia, the location was the correct hotel that we booked as it was the same location as the pictures provided. Once we arrived, the front desk guy immediately left the room and hopped on call. He came back and said we were at the wrong location and that he was going to drive us to the “right” location that was 8 blocks away. Even though we showed him where Expedia told us to go and that the pictures and name of the hotel matched up, he insisted that we were at the wrong location. This location was well over 30 blocks away and in a terrible neighborhood. We walked in “Hotel Malybu”, and the hotel was super run down and the people staying and working there just gave us an extremely unsettling vibe. We voiced our concerns that we were certainly not the hotel we booked and the front desk guy kept talking to us like we were stupid (typical scammers). He told us that Expedia still needs to update the pictures and location (like what?). However I read a review from 2018 and they experienced the same thing. This was a TOTAL SCAM. I have traveled to so many countries as a backpacker and have never experienced a scam like this. DO NOT TRUST THEM. In order to stay safe and avoid further confrontation, we accepted the room he gave us after, stayed in it for about 10 minutes to call Expedia about it, and immediately left. We never gave them any attitude about it in order to stay safe.

This property is located in Zone 1 which is the historic district of Guatemala but not close enough to easily walk to see the strip where all the buildings are. BED BUGS! The owner is super nice and when we showed them to him he acted as if they were always there and normal but agreed to move us to a hostel. I would not recommend this to any traveler as who wants bed bugs brought home with them?!?!
