About this house rental
*Staycations welcome*
A special place for a friends or family gathering. Music is such a part of this house that it seems to sing all by itself, and the garden is magical.
Down a potholed farm track in the middle of nowhere (well, Stroud is ten minutes down the hill), surrounded by stunning woodland on the top of the escarpment, is a 18th-century weavers' cottage that's grown — and grown! — over the years. Now it is a big, beautiful and open-but-cosy family home. Tiered gardens, ponds, shrubberies, squirrels, dragonflies and ten acres of woodland surround it, and you can help yourselves to anything that is growing. In the sitting room are antiques, rugs and easy sofas, books, pictures and objets d'art. Stairs creek, doorways lop, and the kitchen is Shaker in style, with a handsome farmhouse table and a huge range for toasting your toes; walk The Cotswolds, then recover on a floral sofa. For cooks: every drawer is full of utensils and there's an abundance of pots and pans. Bedrooms are in two wings; beds, bedding and views are to die for. There are four double beds, two single beds and one sofa bed which folds out into a double. The sofa bed is in the same room as one of the double beds, but it is the largest bedroom in the house and is consequently still very spacious. The owner, who lives in the cottage just above, is most happy for children to stay but note, there are stairs to tumble down and steps to fall up! One for musicians, artists, family, friends…

Simply Idyllic
Our family had a fantastic stay. The house is so unique and the setting just idyllic.
It was a perfect place for our family to catch up with friends and enjoy the rambling garden.
We were lucky with the weather so spent most time outside. Dan was a great host, with lots of communication and was really helpful and quickly available to sort out any issues.

A splendid holiday
The listing is very accurate and it is set in a superb location. It is very high up and means that trips out need to be carefully planned to avoid lots of negotiating country lanes some of which are very steep.

Amazing place. Amazing hosts.
Our little holiday was perfect. A secluded and quiet property with great views, yet close to bigger shops in Stroud and cute villages like Nailsworth.
The house is very relaxing, great open fire and plenty of nooks to disappear to and read and lots of art to peruse.
Our daughter (5) had great fund exploring the house and the surrounding forest (as she called it!).
Jacqueline and Daniel are fantastic hosts, very responsive communication before and during our stay. They were very understanding and flexible as the government rules changed due to Covid. The welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch!
Can't recommend this place enough.
Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Lovely unique stay
The house is great and exactly as on the listing, Jacqueline was a brilliant host with great communication and easily available if we had an issue but gave us absolute privacy for the rest of the stay. The towels, products and welcome basket made it feel like a nice hotel.

A great place for a short break
The property was full of character, spacious and warm. The art work displayed throughout the house was pleasing and the kitchen was well equipped. The property had a very welcoming feel and the bottle of wine, biscuits, tea, coffee and basic condiments were a nice touch. The garden and surroundings were very peaceful and we were able to enjoy the September sun from the terrace as well as the two conservatories. Any one with mobility issues may find the changes of levels within ground floor of the house and the garden slightly challenging. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Beautiful getaway
A lovely house set amidst forest with a calm and peaceful atmosphere. A natural retreat and a great space to enjoy the company of good friends. We managed to survive the spectacularly steep local roads and loved our visit to the Saturday farmers’ market in Stroud. The top twin-bed room also has mightily steep access but was perfect for two sturdy teenaged boys. The beautiful planting in the garden and the pretty interior furnishings were a highlight - as was the peace and quiet. (Could have done with a few dishwasher tablets and linen for the sofa bed.) Many thanks for an enjoyable visit.

Magical
This property definitely has the wow factor. Lovely as the photographs are they don’t really prepare you for the magic of this beautiful property. I stayed here with three generations of my family and we all thoroughly enjoyed the peace, beauty and seclusion of this place.

A perfect summer weekend
Everything was perfect from start to finish. The house and gardens are stunning and we loved every inch of it (though the kitchen got everyone's vote). Everyone felt at home from the second they arrived and it was a stunning venue for a birthday party with friends and family, in the warm June sunshine. Thank you Jacqueline for your patience with my endless questions before we arrived. I just wanted everything to be perfect - but I needn't have worried, it was! We all hope to come back again one day. Thank you

Jacqueline made us feel welcome from the moment we booked. Incredible responsive and helpful before and during our stay. The house is perfect for get-togethers, with plenty of space indoors for hanging out together and beautiful surroundings for some amazing walks. Easily accessible with only ten mins from Stroud. Cannot recommend enough!

A wonderful, characterful place to stay
We spent a really special weekend at the house, with three generations of our family coming together. Everyone had a wonderful time - in large part thanks to the charm and uniqueness of the place. And our young kids absolutely loved exploring the extensive grounds and woods at the back of the property.
The hosts (Jacqueline and Daniel) were there to welcome us, and it was clear throughout our stay that they have poured a lot of love into the property over the years.
Highly recommended.

Fabulous Venue For A Family Gathering
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful house. Jacqueline and Daniel couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. We had a family gathering to celebrate a special birthday with guests ranging from 10 up to 81 and everyone enjoyed their stay. It was a real home from home with lots of lovely touches, including a very generous basket of goodies when we arrived. We even saw a deer drinking from the pool. A very magical place to stay that we will remember fondly as a key part of celebrations.

The most wonderful house and perfect weekend!
Where to start with Nancy's house...
It really is the most stunning country house we've ever stayed in. Only a short drive from the station but once you're there you feel in the middle of nowhere and it's wonderful. The house is decorated to perfection, and the kitchen was just a dream, with everything we needed to cook and the perfect dining table for us all to sit round chatting through the night.
The lounge is cosy and all the rooms are lovely and comfortable.
There's lots of nice walks to do nearby, but even walking round the garden makes you feel at one with nature.
The snow came on our final day, leaving us stranded, but Nancy proved herself to be just the best host ever by gifting us one extra night so we could tackle it in the morning.
I really couldn't find a fault in Nancy's service or the house and it was just the best Christmas getaway for our friends.
We'll definitely return to this charming cotswolds country house!
Thanks Nancy!

MAGICAL
A small group of our friends (seven) stayed for a weekend at Jacqueline's beautiful home in the Cotswolds and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. The surrounding area is breathtaking and when we arrived Jacqueline made us feel instantly at home with her warm and inviting demeanor. She is lovely, down to earth and very easy going. Her house was beyond all our expectations! We were excited by the photos on the site but in person it is unbelievable how amazing this home is. Our group of friends all want to leave London and live here now. It is all so warm and charming. The bedrooms are lovely and the beds/mattresses/comforters are so absolutely cozy. It was like sleeping in a cloud and we all had the best sleep.
We would spend the days and evenings making meals in the remarkable kitchen and relax in the very comfortable living room with a log fire. We could not have asked for a more perfect accommodation. Then there is the natural surroundings which are a dream. The immediate backyard is beautiful and so very peaceful. We went for long walks on the trails and the beauty of it all is beyond description. By now it shouldn't come as a surprise that I would highly recommend this home but honestly I wish I could articulate more precisely how happy it made our group of friends in the short amount of time we had to spend there. It is an incredibly romantic experience that reconnected us all to nature and to what is important in life. We are already planning our return.

Beautiful house and location

Beautiful location, characterful and unique house
We had a really lovely weekend at the house. It's in a gorgeous location, with a fab garden. The house is full of character, original features, works of art and quirky touches. It has clearly been a well-loved home. It's really good for groups as it has a big, sociable kitchen, and lovely living room with open fire, both with lots of space. Hosts were really welcoming and helpful, providing any bits & pieces we needed quickly and happily, and even some free home-made jam! Only minor suggestions to improve - a set of really good kitchen knives would be great, and some of the bedrooms had small windows that didn't have curtains which made a lie-in a bit difficult! But these are really small things, overall the house is beautiful and we had a brilliant time.

A truly magical but welcoming house
I'm so pleased I came across this house when looking for somewhere to have a gathering with my close girlfriends. It looked beautiful from the pictures but it is more enchanting than I could've imagined. Every single one of house came into the house and immediately said 'Oh, wow!' We still felt comfortable and at home though, it wasn't too over-whelming at all and we all very quickly relaxed.
The owner is also very lovely and dealt with any minor issues (running out of dishwasher tablets!) we had very quickly.
I can't recommend this place enough and would love to visit again.
Thanks so much for a wonderful time!
