Nice old fashioned traditional pub.
Architecture had been bashed around a bit and not done very well in keeping with the old style
4.3
Friendliness of staff, Lay out and size of the room, free parking, friendly locals
4.3
Loved the property and it’s history. It was comfortable, relaxed and welcoming. No problems with anything at all. Potential for evening meal in the bar which was a real bonus. Great breakfast included with decent coffee! Loved the atmosphere here, will defiantly stay again soon.
Absolutely nothing
4.3
Great room and every thing you need including lovely shower
4.3
The location and friendliness of staff, including bar staff & we enjoyed staying at an old Inn with a bar that locals use.
Would like to have had the option of muesli or porridge for breakfast. Some renovation work was going on during our stay (stairs, reception area & bar entrance). It didn't disrupt our stay, but would have given a nicer ambience if this had been finished before our arrival.
4.3
The location was just stunning and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We entertained guests at the Inn for dinner and the food was excellent. The ambience in the pub was warm and welcoming. Our room was large and the furnishings matched the old world atmosphere in general, but the bed was luxurious!
We were disappointed that the day we chose was not "fish and chip" supper night!

Simply done but very comfortable, great pub food, friendly and welcoming owners and staff

Staff extremely friendly. Room was very comfortable with great shower.

Breakfast very good. Bed very comfortable. Room lovely. Shower etc excellent.
No electric shaver point. It would have been good to have one in the en suite facilities or even one near a mirror.
4.3
Owners, food and room were excellent. Sadly location was not
Very noisy main road location, and our room was right at the front. No garden.
4.3
Cosy, nice breakfast, welcoming staff, reasonable price and lovely bathroom facilities.
A very minor thing, but the bed felt wonky.
4.3
The owners were really helpful, attentive, and nice to chat to over a drink at the bar.
The pub itself is a lovely old building with cozy rooms that had all the necessary essentials. breakfast had a good range of options available including a tasty cooked breakfast.
Outdoor seating and plenty of car parking also a plus.
4.3
Super comfy bed, friendly people.
Right on a main road so for me traffic noise at night kept me awake.
4.3
Excellent Good Quality Breakfast
The welcome was Excellent
4.3
Clean and comfortable beds
Clean bathrooms without mould
4.3
Adequate. Staff did their best but possibly could have done with more help in evening and at breakfast time. Would have liked more variety in the non cooked section.
All rather basic and incomplete. Pleasant and memorable though.
4.3
Big room and nice pub.
Room was cold, but had heavy duvet, slight musty smell, food was average.
4.3
Location was beautiful, clean room and amazing shower! Delicious breakfast too. Staff were very friendly and we found it extremely easy to find.
4.3
Period features and cosy feel.
Small room with windows that proved a privacy issue.
4.3
Very comfortable and well furnished room.
Good atmosphere in the bar during the evening
4.3
quaint clean and comfortable

Breakfast was lovely. Room was clean.
Reception was very poor - had to go into 'locals' bar, not very welcoming, awkward
ROOM AND BED WERE WAY BELOW EXPECTED- we booked a large (king size) bed and only got a double (we paid extra for this!!). Very creaky bed and mattress, and side lights didn't work - had to ask for it to be tightened so it didn't squeak all night!
THEY COULD HAVE KNOCKED A LITTLE OFF OUR BILL FOR THE HASSLE - BUT NO! no apology
Very small room. Curtains thin so a lot of light (security light and road)

Personal preference, the evening meal

The owners were so nice and the room we had was spotlessly clean also the bed was so comfy. The food is fantastic and the locals were amazingly friendly.
Coming home so we are looking to go back again to explore the local area as there is a train station around the corner that connects to places like Exeter and Barnstaple

Very good

The location was excellent and the hosts were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We ate there on Friday night and the food was excellent. This is a 16th century coaching Inn and our room didn't have a single straight edge, which is charming.

Great location, friendly staff the room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable the best nights sleep we’ve had in a hotel ever. Breakfast was amazing.

Lovely hosts, good food and comfy room

Andy and Lindsey were fantastic hosts and their down to earth attitude made you feel part of the local community. The rustic charm of this ancient watering hole oozes quirkiness which suited us "down to the ground". The separate reception at the rear allowed us to come and go as we pleased without having to traipse through the bar area. The evening meals were lovely with the fresh fish from Appledore being a particular favourite whilst the cooked breakfasts set us up for the day. Our room was very comfy and tastefully decorated with a large en-suite.
There was nothing that we could say we didn't like. A minor constructive suggestion for the HMS Beaver room would be the addition of a small chest of drawers in the bedroom (under the hanging hooks) and a clothes hook/towel hook in the en-suite. However, this is a minor personal viewpoint and will certainly not stop us from staying here again.
