Afterglow - The Beauty of Sunset on Spectacular Ocean View & Private Beach
The Community House y Long Beach están a poca distancia a pie de Afterglow. En la temporada de verano, los visitantes, amigos y vecinos se reúnen con música, variedad de deliciosas comidas y juegos en la Casa de la Comunidad. Long Beach es una hermosa playa pública agradable para correr y ver los famosos Friendship Sloops.

Ming's property is a peaceful step back in time. The furnishing are a cool vintage collection. The deck is where you will want to be though! It faces the ocean and is just a slice of heaven. Walk across the lawn and down the short set of stairs and you are on the beach. We found sea glass each day:) The house is very good sized and shares a short road with just one other house. You definitely have your privacy. We even had a nesting Osprey w/family that we kept our eye one every day. A few lobster boats come and go each day, adding just the right touch of "Maine." Friendship is tucked away but close to what activities we wanted to do within Mid-coast Maine. Ming was a pleasure to work with and wants you to have the best vacation ever! Thank you for a lovely week, Ming!!! XO

You can’t beat the view. The location is about 10 min to the town. The house is extremely outdated, mostly original, with very uncomfortable old furniture. It is loaded with old books and magazines and other stuff that collects dust. The bathrooms need updating. The tub shower is dangerously slippery and the upper shower is tricky to use. The beds are old, but did have clean linens. We were left with four towels, two were old small air dried and too rough to use. Two were very small with fringes like a rug and very old. Did not use them. Bought some beach towels to use. We were left with three napkins and one roll of TP in each bathroom. We bought more of each for our use. Nice lobster pot. The oven is original and gets very hot on the outside door, it needs replacing. No microwave, but did have a nice little toaster oven. Nice fridge. Nice size dining room table with chairs. Dishwasher worked but you can not use the wash machine, the breaker is off and only for housekeeping. That was outlined on the contract we had to sign. The contract is not welcoming, it is merely a list of don'ts and reminders of your own risks. New steps to the water, but a bit tricky with no hand rail. The owner does respond quickly to messages. We did not try to use the tv's, they are old CRT models. But the wifi worked fine. If this house were updated, It would be a nice remote spot to hang out.

The private beach was just steps away from the back porch. Beautiful views from sun up to sun down. We really enjoyed the nature hike that was only about a ten-minute walk away from the house - that was an added bonus.
The house is a bit dated, but it had a charm to it, like visiting your beloved grandparents' house. We enjoyed the nostalgia.

View is beautiful! Sailboats, lobster boats and stunning sunsets all right in front of you, wether on the deck, the lawn or from inside the house. Sounds of the ocean lull you to sleep, birds singing in the morning. Nature preserve in walking distance provided a nice hike. Ming is a gracious and responsive host.

I can’t say enough about the view, without a doubt one of the most beautiful I have seen. I really enjoyed looking for sea glass on the beach and managed to find several pieces. We also loved the location, very quant small town and close to so many great places to visit.

We wanted to get away from the city of Portland and experience a true Maine experience. This rental provide just that. We were on the water edge where we experienced local lobster fisherman checking their crab cages, fisherman casting their nets, fireworks over the bay, and much more without the hustle of a big city. Local dining was just that, a small town experience where people were very friendly and lobster was right off the boat. The host was extremely friendly and the accommodations were far better then staying at a hotel. Very quite environment with a very clean house. Can't complain and well worth the price.

We had a wonderful time in Friendship and especially enjoyed several amazing sunsets from the deck. Although the water at the house beach was a little rough, we managed to kayak along the shore. A nearby beach down the road was a bit calmer. Great bicycling to the Friendship Harbor as well.

Very quiet location . Most of the time we felt we had the entire area to our selves.
Just awesome sunsets and a wonderful house that is exactly what we were looking for.

This house has an amazing view all day but especially during the sunset which explains why it's called "Afterglow". We loved staying here and will hopefully return next year. The owner is very responsive with any questions. This place is a gem!

Amazing Sunsets
The house is called the Afterglow…now I know why. Every evening the sun sets and there is an afterglow after it sets! So beautiful and every sunset is unique to the clouds that are present for sunset

Beautiful Property!
The location of the property is gorgeous- we loved the outdoor space! Ming was great to work with and got the place ready for us even though it was a last minute rental.

Pros and Cons
The house and setting are great, except for the problem with the sulfuric water, but we knew about that ahead of time. However, the photos and description of the access to a private beach are very misleading! There was no way to get down the bluff to the beach. We ended up actually digging our and building a rock and wood staircase so we could get down there. My husband was unable to use the beach, and supposed access to it was the main draw of this house! Also, although the house itself was clean, the wall oven was so filthy that I recoiled in horror, so we could not use it. And the dishwasher is so old that it is stained and dirty on the inside. I expected to find a handful of brochures on local restaurants and fun things to do in the area, but none of that was provided. The kitchen is minimally stocked - a corkscrew seems like an essential item! It feels like this owner is very haphazard in her care and approach to her clientele.

Gorgeous views. Quiet and peaceful
Perfect place to rest with beautiful views. Beautiful sunset. We saw a bold eagle right of the main deck. Nice little town.
As noted on previous reviews the water has an oder. Recommend using bottle water for cooking and drinking.
Beds were ok, but could be improved.
Overall we had a very good time.

Slice of Heaven
Absolutely stunning location. Calm, peaceful and deep bay waters - beautiful at both high and low tide. Hours of kayak adventures with seal and eagle and osprey sightings. Sunsets that last for an hour or more and then incredible night skies with views of the Milky Way. Loved every minute!

What a spot!
This is truly a lovely spot on the coast of Maine. Beautiful view, cool, clean water and nice breezes. Access to the beach would be improved with some good stairs but the property is great and having two full bathrooms was definitely a plus. Good cell reception and strong wifi helped as well.

Excellent view and peaceful setting. Worst part is the water. Very high sulfur content and smell. Use bottled water to brush teeth and any cooking. Showers get you clean but you smell like sulfur. A lot of negative yellow stickers. Would be better if just included in the agreement. There is nothing egregious. Could not get over the feeling that our movements were constantly being monitored. Understand the liability issues, but using the fireplace would have been nice. Mostly small improvements we saw but thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful views, lovely ocean breeze and great location!
Our family had a wonderful stay at the Afterglow. The house is a little dated but does not stop a great time. Our only issue was that the master bedroom on the 1st floor with an AMAZING view has twin beds with springs that can be felt. That said we would rent again but bring something to put over the mattresses so that when we pushed the beds together we could snuggle in comfort.

It was a beautiful spot on the water with some gorgeous views.
The house was situated at a lovely location on the water with beautiful views of the ocean. We enjoyed renting kayaks and watching the lobstermen on their boats from the beautiful deck and private beach. The house was nice with pretty water views, but decorated in the 70s with very little updated. The beds were older and not very comfortable and the pillows were very old looking and very stained. We didn't realize how bad till we stripped the bed at the end of the week. Maybe if they invested more in the beds so they were less creaky and they bought new pillows each year it would be a more comfortable sleeping experience. However, everything else was nice.

Can I go back right now?
We have been coming to Afterglow for four years and could not be more pleased with our experience. The location is extraordinary. The property is right on the shore, nestled at the head of a small cove, so there is nothing and no one between you and the water. At high tide, you can walk down a few steps to the beach and go for a swim (at low tide you'll have to walk about twenty yards). The location works particularly well for us since we love to kayak and it is very easy to launch your boats, again just walking a few steps down to the beach and into the water.
The sunsets are spectacular and can be comfortably viewed from the spacious front deck. The house sleeps 6 adults comfortably and having a full bath upstairs is a big plus. The house is always clean and well-maintained when we arrive and the owners respond immediately to any questions or requests.
Because of the location, the ambiance is truly peaceful, a high priority for us. We've often found that days can go by with no sounds from the neighboring properties and–aside from a few lobster boats and the sound of the lapping waves–the bay is remarkably quiet. Afterglow is, for us, totally relaxing.
Not only would I recommend Afterglow to friends and relatives, we've had a number of friends and relatives come to stay with us and they all say they don't want to leave. We'll be going back next year.

Spectacular sunsets!
Imagine the most spectacular sunsets you've ever seen, a comfortable deck overlooking the water and a house that feels like home. That's Afterglow. We've just finished our sixth year of vacations there, and have been completely satisfied. Our hosts are gracious and accommodating, booking is easy and the listing accurately describes the house and its comfortable accommodations. The location is lovely -- close enough to nearby towns/cities to dine out, shop and take advantage of cultural activities and far enough away to feel the quiet of a vacation by the water. There's a small beach steps away from the house that's lovely for sea glass hunting, sitting on the rocks or launching kayaks and a nearby town beach for swimming. Highly recommended!

What a Lovely Spot
Ming, our friendly, helpful, and informative host greeted my sister and I upon our arrival at Afterglow. We got there just around dusk in time to enjoy what would be one of many breathtaking sunsets. Every evening after, we made sure we were on the deck to take advantage of the westward views and the beautiful sunsets. What a way to end the day after swimming and kayaking right from the beach in front of our cottage. A perfect week in a perfect place!

Thanks! We enjoyed our vacation!
We are a retired couple and came to visit Maine last summer. We stayed at “Afterglow” for a week and really enjoyed our vacation. The home is very comfortable and well equipped. We spent most of our time on the deck reading, relaxing, watching sailboats, sea kayakers passing by, duck family swimming around, local lobstermen working… The shaded large deck is a plus on a hot summer day! Afterglow is private, quiet, and serene, but never boring. A Dennis the Menace duckling excites the brood. An osprey may fly by. The spectacular sunsets give the evening time a special and charming moment. We also enjoyed sitting on the private beach observing the incoming water surge against the rocks, clear water, beautiful small rocks and sand. Thanks for allowing us to share such a beautiful location. We are coming back this summer.
