The property met all the hype- everything they said/ people wrote in their review was accurate.
We were happy/ and our dogs got to run around in a fenced-in yard... It was a pleasant stay.

The property has two cottages and since the web site shows the pictures for both, we did not know which one we rented until we arrive. We called the property owner several times to figure out which cottage we rented and its entrance hidden by overgrown vegetation at the back. When we entered the brown cottage we were welcomed with an overwhelmingly strong dog urine smell. The carpets in the living room and the bedrooms were full of large stains. Combined with very worn out wooden furniture, broken lamp shades and upholstered rocking chair w/ questionable large stains, our first impression of the place was awful. When we entered the rooms it got worse. In the room with the trundle bed, there were large urine stains covering half of the mattress which made us gag. We immediately turned on all the ac units and open the windows to air the space. My husband left to buy cleaning supplies and room air refreshener sprays and additional bed covers and linens. We sprayed all the carpeted areas and mattresses with air refreshener and wiped all the wood furniture with Clorox and covered not only the mattresses but all the upholstered furniture with linens to make the odor bearable. When we got out the deck to see the ocean, we were furthered disappointed with the broken glass table with glass pieces spread all around the deck. This is our worst renting experience ever. We paid $1643 for 3 nights. It is obvious that there is no inspection done by VRBO for this property for a long time.

The “natural’ bushes in the yard are so overgrown you had to walk through sticker plants to access the property. The front bushes contained garbage. Backyard and a portion of back deck were taken over by weeds. No rabbits but countless bugs-ants, wasps, bees. The deck sling back chairs were useable but patio table was broken and glass was strewn in deck crevices. Glass stuck to the bottom of our shoes. The deck umbrella was broken as were the Adirondack chairs. Sliders were covered with dog slobber and curtain covering them was filthy. Dog fur on furniture and carpet. Air conditioners are heavily covered with mold (health hazard). Mold on bathroom ceiling and refrigerator. The furniture is stained so badly that we sat on our beach chairs. The kitchen table and end tables falling apart. Every coffee mug is stained. The stained carpeting is also torn up in spots. Dust webs on the walls, ceiling fans and the lamps. Piles of dirt in the corners. This place has not been cleaned in a very long time. Broken blinds. Electric outlet hanging out- a hazard. Most disgusting is mattresses. Plastic sheet placed over the many pee stains on twin. Other had no cover. Not enough room for all issues like 1/2 roll tp, tv not working, no 5th bed etc. We had to leave. I have pics of everything. Refund?

The house, as promised, was rustic. It's old and kinda rough, but I wasn't surprised bc that was discussed in all the comments. The LOCATION was spectacular and we were surrounded by million dollar homes. The beach was steps away and there were NO CROWDS. To stand alone on a beach in Cape May in the middle of July just blew me away.
As far as the house, the bathroom was very clean, the kitchen was somewhat clean, the bedrooms were
fine and the yard was rough. I don't mind the overgrowth but all the broken furniture in the pile on the deck and the rusty bikes just all should have been removed. The carpets were gross, the place smelled pretty bad but we febreezed a lot and opened windows. We will definetly come back to Town Bank but we'll pay a little more to stay at a cleaner place. All said, I feel very lucky to have found this rental (it fit our budget), it introduced us to North Cape May and gave us the opportunity to see what else is out there. Gary did not overpromise, we got exactly what he said. Overall we had a fantastic vacation and we fell in love with the area.

My wife is suffereing from an autoimmune disease Lupus and we wanted to take a few days at the beach in Cape May so she could regain some strength. We had prevsiosuly used Vrbo and were satisfied so we booked through them for the stay in Cape May.
I paid in full in advance and we were looking forward to the stay. However, when we arrived at the cabin we were shocked by the condition of the place. I took photos (which i shared with Vrbo). There were rusty bicycles and bar-b-que pits in the unkept yard. The key lock was broken open so we called the owner who told us to go next door (another of his properties) while he contacted the people who cleaned the places to see if they had moved the spare key. After awhile we located the spare key to our rental. The condition of this place was filthy with spiders on the walls and ant swarms in the kitchen. The carpets were pee stained and the furiture was stained. The front screen was taped on with duck tape and the air conditioning filter was clogged with black residue. I was shocked that this property was promoted by Vrbo.I called the owner to complain and he swore at me and siad he didn't care if we stayed or not. So, my wife and I left and drove the 3 hours back home that night. The owner sent me a text that we was refunding his portion but latter refused to do so.I will never stay at another Vbro property again.

This was my 6th or 7th (I've lost track) annual July stay and I'm still in love. Early morning dolphin & osprey watching on the deck, gorgeous sunsets just a step away every evening, and all in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood. True that it would benefit from a little TLC, but I'm not a perfectionist, I still find it charming. It's clean, comfortable, and well stocked for a vacation stay. See you next year!

This property is as poorly maintained on the inside as it is on the outside.
It's really overgrown and appears neglected on the outside.
The inside is old and infested with ants.
There was a stain on the chair in the family room that looked like poop.
No W/D and having to bring ur own sheets is outrageous for 375.00/night.
It is desperately in need of both an overhaul and price reduction.

There is a wide range of reviews for this property, which, on both extremes, are accurate.
The location is fantastic. Beautiful sunsets, great beaches.
The beach is advertised as dog friendly, however there are postings that say dogs are not allowed on the beach from 11-4. We violated this and had no issues.
There are two houses on property, this is the "back" cottage, basically a 2b 1ba doublewide trailer with an elevated deck, built in roughly the 1960s.
The (small) yard is fenced in, but is not secure. Our 35 lb Goldendoodle was easily able to get out underneath the front gate.
The house leaves a lot to be desired. Everything is old. There is literally a grate in the floor taking up most of the "living room" that has the house's heater below it. It was uncomfortable to walk on as an adult, and precarious at best for our toddler and dog.
The furniture is decades old and not particularly comfortable, the couch especially.
Ants swarmed my dog's bowl in the kitchen.
There were beach chairs, bikes, etc, on property, but it was all rusted out. Beach toys etc. were stored underneath the deck which is a mess of spiderwebs.
The yard is overgrown. On another review, the owner stated this "natural look" is purposeful for the local ecology, which is their prerogative, but it wasn't a plus for us.
If you're looking for a great location for beach & sunsets, love to spend most of your time outdoors, and have older kids and a bigger dog, you'll get what you pay for here.

Property wasn’t as listed . Property is in disrepair as if it’s abandoned. Vines crawling all over the house , covering the side and windows . Carpet and furniture are old , broken and unclean . Bikes are rusty , flat tires and stuck in vines outside . Beach chairs outside and dirty . Walls are marked up with holes . Kitchen is disgusting. Animal hair everywhere. Dust and cobwebs on light fixtures, dishes , walls . Two burners don’t work on stove . Refrigerator drawers do not open , ice cube maker broken . Freezer dirty . All windows were unclean . The list goes on and on . The property is unpleasant to the eye inside and out . This property should be removed as a rental . The price we paid was a complete crime for what we witnessed. The owner was unreachable for days . Only offered one nights rent of which we haven’t received. I have photos to show what this property really looks like . Extremely unhappy with our stay .

We came for a long weekend stay. The location was amazing! You could be in the ocean within 5 minutes of walking out the door. The house is in a residental neighborhood so there isn't much noise at night. The landscaping was great! We saw so many birds and rabbits which was really nice. The back porch was amazing! We spent every evening out there watching the sun go down. The ocean is really gentle at that beach and we didn't have to worry about our kids with the waves. We would love to rebook in the future!

It’s exactly as advertised, a “rustic” no frills property just across the street the bay. The house and yard would benefit from a good day or two of TLC cleanup, getting rid of broken junk, and minor repair/replacement investments. We spent a lot of time on the big raised deck in the backyard, with a gorgeous view of the bay especially at sunset. Fully-fenced yard was a bonus for bringing our dog. It’s a relaxed, peaceful neighborhood, very dog-friendly. A lot of dogs walking along the bay shore mornings and sunsets when they’re allowed. Note that there are no poop bag stations. There’s one good restaurant Harpoons within walking distance, other than that you have to drive for any food or shopping. There’s an Uncle Bills nearby that seems to be a local secret and never has a long wait like every other Uncle Bills location—great for breakfast! My overall recommendation is that as long as you’re okay with things not being pristine, this property is a good value for the price.

If you are looking for fancy and modern, this is not the place. BUT if you are looking for comfortable, dog friendly and gorgeous sunsets, then rent this place! Bay beach right across the street, sunsets can't be beat. Dogs loved the yard and were obsessed with the bunnies in the adjoining yard! Will definitely rent again. Gary was easy to work with and answered my emails immediately,

Pro-location, patio, and good water pressure.
Con-front screen door falling off, broken toilet paper holder, broken ceiling fan in living room, an immense amount of heat coming from fridge making the kitchen and bathroom extra hot, fridge leaking inside (cup catching water), overgrown yard, prickers in yard, no beach chairs or umbrella (what was there was either broken rusted so it wouldn’t work), fenced yard wasn’t secure nor could it be made secure, overall dirty, lots of cobwebs that could easily be dusted off lamps, a magic eraser would help all the marks on the wall, broken picture frame on wall. We definitely feel that we didn’t get our money’s worth with all the cleaning fees when it wasn’t clean.
Vacationing with toddlers and a dog are enough, we didn’t need these extra issues. We would not return to this spot but we aren’t letting it sour our first experience in Cape May.

You can not beat this location, the town, beach, and people were amazing. Gary was helpful and communicated well. The place itself is older which has it's charms, a few upgrades would make it a gem. My only concern was the heating grate in the middle of the living room floor. We have a 4yo and 1.5yo and of course that was a novelty and telling them not to touch it, don't put your fingers in it, don't drop anything into it got old really fast. I did not know that was there and maybe a coffee table over it when not in use would be helpful. Otherwise we enjoyed our trip and would come back.

We were scheduled to stay Oct. 3 thru 6 at the house in North Cape May, but Hurricane Ian had other ideas. The aftermath of the storm was predicted to pass through the area, and a coastal flood warning was posted. We asked Gary the owner if we could postpone our stay to another week when he had no other booking, and he said he would check with VRBO, but we never heard from him until after the storm. We wrote to him again, and he took a week to respond to us. He then said that the best he could do was to give us a $600 credit from the payment we had already made towards another rental. Since this would only have covered the cleaning and pet rental fees, which were unnecessary since we never set foot in the place, that was hardly a credit. We think we should have gotten a full credit, since the weather made it almost impossible to stay there at that time. He never responded to our last message. OUR OPINION OF THE OWNER IS VERY LOW, WE WILL NEVER RENT FROM HIM AGAIN, AND WE URGE OTHERS TO AVOID HIM, TOO!

I wish I had found this cottage sooner!! I’ve been coming to Cape May for at least 30 years but this is the first time I stayed along the bay . It was perfect! I didn’t want to leave my chair on the deck! Even my dogs loved it! This vacation was just what I needed and I loved it so much, I already made my reservation for next year! Thank you for having us!! Location and beach were excellent. Property overgrown and had rusting bikes, ladder, old beach chairs. Kitchen sticky and no storage. Non working lamps (5)and 2 broken fans in living room. Sticky notes everywhere. Hit head on corner of house on deck— very dangerous! Should be padded.

Steel bar is leaning up against the fence with plantgrowth all over it

The wood outside is filled with holes from carpenter bees
It is quite obvious that this property is only a income resource and not a place for families to enjoy their environment during vacation
Unfortunately it appears that the owner does not care about this property nor the impression it leaves with the renters.
This property is probably the worst looking property in the area.
My wife and I vacationed with my sister and brother in law. The beach is just a few steps away which was great. The beach was clean and we lucked out with terrific weather. We were so stunned by the lack of care this property is given.

Positive: LOCATION was amazing, back deck and view perfect. Steps from beach. Beach is perfect and neighborhood is lovely and so dog friendly! Back yard is perfect for a dog! Owner is very good at communication! The vacuum broke during our stay and we had a brand new one the next day!
Negatives: Not very clean. Besides the bathroom and new kitchen appliances it is very old and outdated. The carpets desperately need to be replaced and CURTAINS are so needed!! Dishwasher would be helpful and new pots and pans.

Paint chipping, garage sale /dumpster decor, dirty sponge/washcloth in kitchen sink, junk with silverware in sticky drawer, some windows don't open, old butter used, food. View fantastic, clean bathroom, curtain rod rusting, airconditioner excellent and water pressure too. Notes helpful to resident.

Beautiful location
We enjoyed our time here. The property is in the most incredible location to take in the beauty of the area. We ended up buying an air mattress because the full bed mattress was uncomfortable. There was some dog hair on the furniture and blankets, but the house felt clean overall. I would absolutely recommend this rental to anyone. We're grateful for the time we spent here as a family!

Up front, let me say that the view from the deck was as advertised. Breathtaking! Bring your camera. That being said, there is really nothing else I can shine a positive light on. Note: a good portion of my criticism has to do with the cleaning/maintenance of the property and not necessarily with the owner, although the owner assumes responsibility for general oversight of the property.
In a word, the cottage was absolutely filthy! This includes, but is not limited to the oven, dishes, utensils, pots, pans, microwave, etc. In fact, I purchased a toaster because the one provided was so grungy. The carpeting looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in months! There was something in the far corner of the bedroom that looked like ants, but upon closer inspection was just every day, run-of-the-mill dirt. Speaking of vacuums, the one provided was beyond description.
And then there is the issue with the heating unit. A heating grate is inexplicably positioned in the center of the living room making navigation somewhat tricky. It was unseasonably chilly when I visited so on my first night I turned on the unit and was assaulted by an offensive odor which smelled like diesel fuel.
In my opinion, the place is unsafe for children and/or pets. Jagged edged ceramic tiles prop up the legs of the TV stand. In the back yard, there is a rusted stroller and a bicycle with a rusted chain. No reason why these items are not removed from the property. The porch light (by the sliding glass door) doesn’t work and there is no guard rail so this is very dangerous. The grill? Well you’ll have to make your own assessment.
What else? The front door handle is flimsy so I left the sliding glass doors unlocked in the event I was locked out. Half of the light bulbs are blown and they don’t provide replacements. I shouldn’t have to move bulbs from one lamp to the next depending on what room I’m sitting in. Lastly, the batteries for the TV remote ran down to “critically” low levels. I did not change the channel or dare mess with the volume because I was afraid the remote would totally drain and I wouldn’t have a working TV. CNN is better than a test pattern, although that’s debatable.
So to sum up, I could not recommend this property. Too bad because the location is great and the views are stunning. When I spend as much money as I did, I expect a whole lot more. My advice would be to replace the cleaning crew since much of this review is a direct reflection of their ineptness.

Excellent location
A simple 2 bdr house right across a nice and quiet beach. The deck provides excellent views of the ocean.
A bike, sand toys and kayak is provided.
The house and beach are pet friendly..

Very disappointed
Owner contacted us to say that he had emergency and was not able to install air conditioners in the house. He had a handyman arriving to install them. We arrived on a 95 degree day. Handyman finally arrived and installed the units. There were no screens in the windows to even open them while we waited. There were dozens of carpenter bees all around the house. Couldn't even sit in the yard or on the deck without them buzzing all around us. The beach chairs for our use were very old and rusted. Some were even ripped beyond use. Yard was completely overgrown.
Some of the lamps did not work. Some of the electrical outlets did not work.
The owner had told us upon our arrival that he would pay for a meal for us and reimburse some of our payment for our stay. That was last Saturday, 5/21/22. We decided to leave a day early and come home. I texted him to let him know we left and cleared out and locked the house. Also wanted to discuss partial reimbursement with him. He NEVER responded. He has completely ignored me.
We would NEVER stay here again.

Quiet, peaceful, comfortable and scenic
This lovely house is in a beautiful setting, with lots of windows, a raised deck and enclosed windowed porch both with bay views provided the perfect spot for us. Our dog could always find a sunny spot to lay in. Appliances work perfectly, beds are comfortable, wifi worked perfectly when we needed it. No need to bring water filters - water was pure! We brought our own pots and pans. The fenced in yard was a bonus. The dog friendly beach across the street was heaven on earth. Gary was super responsive and helpful. Our first time in Cape May and so happy we chose this pet friendly house in Town Bank. We will be back!

I thought I had water front property but instead had the house behind the water front property.
In addition to not being waterfront, the door to deck was broken. We had a ton of ants in kitchen. In addition, the owner came into house while we were out. He was nice about it but not comfortable for me. He texted me to say I had flowers delivered to my mom (81 years old) so he went in while we were out and turned on lights and unlocked door. So very unsettling for me to come in to an unlocked house.

Home is simply furnished We enjoyed walks every day with our three dogs. Along with some amazing sunsets. Located close to stores and some other great places to see.

Location was perfect
We had the beach to ourselves. Our dog loved being with us. Location was perfect, quiet and safe for dog and kids. The edges of the fenced yard are not mowed, my understanding is that the owner is keeping the edges for wildlife. Without knowing that, the property would seem unkempt. The kitchen is rustic but adequate. The queen bed needs updating. The couch in the living room is very uncomfortable with no sides and the front sun room needs a comfortable chair. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return, mattress topper in tow.

Town Bank in Caoe May
Beautiful location directly across quiet Shore Road to the beach. Great view from the deck and sun room overlooking Delaware Bay. A thank you to Ryan for leaving HBO Max signed in on the in house ROKU.

Much needed break in a wonderful location!
The cottage is adorable and the views/location are one of the best Cape May has to offer. Being in Townbank, you are away from the hustle and bustle but are a short 5-7 minute ride to get into the town to shop, dine or got to the beaches. We split our time equally between beach days on the bay side and on the ocean side :) Wildwood Boardwalk is 20 mins away for that quintessential Jersey Shore experience! I love that Townbank is extremely dog friendly and it was so much fun to take my dogs on vacation. The cottage could use a little TLC, all the important things were clean, a few cobwebs and dust were found and we had some ants invade the bathroom. Thankfully it was easily rectified. The yard for both houses are in need of weed control and better lawn maintenance but NONE OF THIS detracts from the view...location location LOCATION! 5 stars are definitely deserved and I will definitely book and stay again :) The Knox Family July 2021

perfect little getaway!
what a perfect spot! spent a long weekend here for a girls’ weekend getaway, and this cottage was so quaint, quiet, and idyllic. the beach could not be more convenient or relaxing, and the views from the deck are absolutely phenomenal. the house itself is small - we had 5 adults and couldn’t have slept more, but it was very cozy and clean upon arrival. we loved the north cape may beach, and it was only 10 minutes of driving to both the washington street mall and to the west cape may marina, which made exploring very convenient. overall, i would recommend this place to anyone, and i hope i get the pleasure of returning someday soon!
