Great location, everything was in easy walking distance. The hosts were lovely, very friendly and our room was lovely.

Even with the radiators turned off, it was SO hot in the appartment (in February!). There were a few areas in the room that were a little run-down/dated but overall nothing major.

We had a door code, keys were waiting for us on a shelf as previously communicated to us via email. We were also met by the host who very kindly showed us to our apartment down the road a little.

The shower was not working, we messaged the host and they had come during the day whilst we were out, to have a look and they fixed it a little but it was still only a trickle. Therefore, it was lucky we had planned to go swimming each day and with Icelandic culture you are required to thoroughly shower before entering the pool/water. So it was ok.

Alfred's Apartments is located just off the main shopping street, yet it was a surprisingly quiet place to stay. It was clean and comfortable, larger than a hotel room but not quite a studio suite. The kitchenette had everything we needed to prepare our own simple meals. There's a well-stocked grocery store right around the corner. It's within easy walking distance of the heart of the city and only a 20-minute walk from the bus terminal serving the airport. The building is a century-old, modernized Icelandic house of the old style, so it has character. It's a good pick for somebody who's familiar with Reykjavík and able to make their way around on their own.

The kitchen table and chairs weren't the most comfortable, but then again, we weren't there to sit around the table all day. The on-street parking in this neighbourhood is limited, so be prepared to circle around to find a spot and expect to walk a block or two from your car.

For cooking there could have been warning signs to open windows due to lack of ventilation. Also a cooking pan would have been useful.
