I booked for 3 nights and ended up staying for 5 weeks while I tried to learn how to dance and I loved the atmosphere here!
There was a great group of people already there when I arrived so got lots of information from them and also Luciana, the volunteer, organised a lot of nights out and kept us up with what’s happening via the WhatsApp group.
Front desk staff are great.
Very nice restaurant attached to the hostel with a Turkish place next to the entrance, recommended.
Tienda across the road, 2 bakeries within 50m and supermarket/atm a few minutes walk.
Just a couple of minor issues which are easily fixed and would make a huge difference -
Plastic cups and plates…..
There are a LOT of people cooking and not enough cutlery to eat with ie only 3 knives, no teaspoons etc. If you are trying to have a group meal as we did over Xmas and New Year, or just eating with others in the hostel, it’s a problem. There are a number of reviews saying the same thing up to year ago…
Laundry is a fixed rate per load and very efficient BUT it isn’t folded and comes back in a crumpled heap
4 power points in the roof terrace and none of them work

Hammocks area.
On the 2nd night apparently my bed was given to another person. I assume it was a mix up but that’s still unacceptable. At about 3am a guy came in after drinking and started throwing his stuff on the bed while I was asleep. Me and the guy got into an argument and the worker (security I assume) overnight was laughing about the situation. The same worker who told me quiet hours started at 11pm and that I had to leave the hammock prior. She didn’t handle the situation well in my opinion. Anyway, it’s really disorganized because they don’t monitor who is located in what bed. People walk in and choose their bed. I guess because my bed was made they thought it was free. Those who came in from partying made a lot of noise and interrupted the sleep of those in the room. It took me 3 hours to fall back asleep. Also the bathrooms are dirty and in two of the bathrooms I used to shower had chunks of hair inside

The place is amazing. Great value for money, exceptionally clean and the staff are very friendly. Incredible views of the city from the rooftop, some hammocks to chill, a dance school.
It gets a bit hot in the bedroom. There’s a fan, which suffices, but it’s a bit rough when it gets hotter. Also, during my stay there was road works outside the hostel, so just be mindful about access. You won’t have any problems but taxis and Ubers can’t drop you off directly out front, so it’s a 2 minute walk.

Friendly stuff
Lot of salsa activities
The common area is pretty nice
Terrible air in the room
Uncomfortable beds
Bedsheets didn’t fit

The building is really beautiful and the communal areas are great. It’s so good to have the dance school in the building too - we did a private salsa class with Kevin and loved it. The wifi was also good.
Our private double room was really small and like a cell. The only window was internal and out to a corridor where they’d piled up a bunch of old furniture and mattresses.
In the room, the plastic mattress and pillows were really uncomfortable and hot and the fan just moved around hot air.
There was also noisy roadworks outside (July 2023).

there are salsa and bachata classes in the hostel.
And the teachers are nice and kind
Facility:
The room is super small (8 beds in a very tiny room)
There is only one small fan in the room that doesn't point to every point of the room, so I had to sleep when it was super hot (woke up every morning sweating)
Staff:
Never seen any staff member smile even once (excluding the salsa and bachata teachers who are very nice)
My bad experience:
After like 5 days that I stayed and suffered from the heat and didn't say anything.. on the 5th day I saw one of the staff member and asked her if it's possible to get an extra fan to the room, she said in a very not sympathetic way: "No, you can open the window".
Which obviously doesn't help since it's super humid here and barely windy.
On the same day in the evening i saw the owner at the reception standing there (as for him he said he was talking to the receptionist, but I saw him just standing doing nothing).
And I told him nicely: 'hey, just so you know, it's super hot in the room'.
As for him, he told me super rudely that I shouldn't speak with him, and if I have a complaint I should talk to the reception and if they want, they will deliver the complaint to him.
And it's my problem that I booked the cheapest room, and if I want I can book a private room, which is a more comfortable room (like double of the price)
As for me, I didn't come in an aggressive way, just trying to speak with him as a human being and as the owner of the place.
The next day obviously I took my stuff and went to check out and saw the owner, and I told him that before I leave if he likes to apologise (I turned to him, he didn't even think of apologizing for his behaviour, which will be clearly later on why).
As we were talking and clearing out our points of view to each other of what happened, he apologised for offended me, but still was thinking that was the right way to respond to me.

This place is huge with insane views from the roof top. I would absolutely recommend this hostel.
At these extremely low prices it's almost impossible to complain about anything you don't like. I liked everything

Private room was spacious, with a double bed and a bunk bed. To turn the gas hon on, you have to put the plug in the socket and then turn the gas on, then take the plug out. Not the safest!
Our check in experience at 5am was okay, although we had come from a flight and the lady didn’t seem to know a lot and we had to leave our bags behind reception because she didn’t know which was the key to put them into storage. We then asked if there was a place we could sleep and she said yeah you can sit on the terrace or sit upstairs on the chairs. We did find the place where they had hammocks but they put them away at night. We asked and she kindly got the hammocks out for us which was lovely.
Comfy beds and we got a towel with our room.
Kitchen was bare, not many utensils, plates, bowls etc. and it didn’t feel very clean.
There was a dead cockroach in our room by the door when we checked in.
Not a very sociable hostel, a few places to sit down but that’s it.
Paid salsa classes which is okay, although I was in the intermediate one and the guy wasn’t explaining anything very well. He showed us the routine and just expected us to get it and didn’t explain it step by step which was disappointing. My friends and I went to Salsa and Rumba dance school which is a quick Uber ride and they are amazing.
I thought it was closer to San Antonio and the area didn’t feel very safe.

The hostel is quite big and nice! I felt very comfortable and I will stay here again next time.

vibes were great, rooms were clean, private room is a great deal, dance classes were a lot of fun
in the private rooms there is a type of window thing in the wall that doesn’t have a screen, which meant mosquitos and other flying things were getting in at night. there weren’t a lot but as someone sensitive to these things (and very prone to bites) it bothered me.

Rooftop with a beautiful view over the city, two kitchens, very friendly staff, fast laundry service, hammocks, good dance classes with nice teachers and social atmosphere
The dorm isn’t that spacious and the mattresses are quite hard but it was okay

The hostel is in foot distance of San Antonio and the center of Cali. There is a Mio bus station close by, so it is also easy to go to the other parts of Cali. There is a shop with vegetables, fruits and basic food stuff just on the other side of the street and there are two bakeries in the same street.

I had the benefit of already being familiar with Miraflores (where the hostel is) and the experiences of friends staying there so I knew what to expect.
Benefits: there's a large area with a big table for any digital nomads or remote workers. Do be aware that you'll hear constant salsa/bachata music though in case you're required to take or make conference calls.
Kitchen: See below for the negatives but there's plenty of shelf space for everybody's non-refridgerated stuff and the dining table always led to great chats.
The beds were comfy and there are lockers.
The volunteer staff were very friendly.
I really enjoyed and used the terraces often for working, chatting with others, enjoying a coffee, meditating. There are lovely views from the terraces. There are hammocks but I didn't get to use them.
There's a coffee shop as well as a juice bar downstairs (I didn't sample either during my 3 night stay but I heard great things about them). The hostel is really well-located for going to several of the dance spots to dance at night and for dance schools as well as being near the famous Loma de la Cruz. Easy and safe to walk everywhere you wanted to (during the day, take caution at night in Cali - in groups generally fine but not alone) and within 10 mins of big supermarkets and a huge array of restaurants, cafes, bars.
This is just to be super-picky as I stayed in 10 different places during my time in Cali and so the below is just highlighting what's available elsewhere.
Many hostels have Mon-Fri or Mon-Sat free salsa/bachata classes. Havana's classes have a 15,000COP charge ($3).
If you're used to getting free towels, here you pay a deposit of 10,000 COP and get 6,000 COP back (tiny charge - basically 75/80cents).
Private rooms are inexpensive (same price as a bed in a shared dorm in some other hostels) but check the noise levels where you're put - there can be noise from loud conversations on the terrace late at night or from the dance classes.
Breakfast isn't included (only included in a handful of the hostels I stayed in).
Kitchen needs another fridge and much more crockery/cutlery and new pots/pans.

The shower was nice & hot. The upper terrace is nice. Wifi works really well.
There were fleas or something bitting me in bed, bed had plastic sheet cover, very uncomfortable. Staff was blah. Kitchen had old pots & pans, hard to cook in. Obviously very loud due to salsa school. I left early.

I loved the hammocks and the evenings at the rooftop terrace! This is a really well organized hostel where the staff works hard to make the guests feel comfortable and welcome.

The hostel is lovely decorated and has an incredible view from the rooftop terrace. It is located in a calm and beautiful neighborhood, close to the center and to the Topa Tolondra. It is a residential area, nevertheless there are a lot of nice restaurants and shops around.

Hot showers, comfy bed.
Not really in a useful part of town, quite far from San Antonio. Main problem was they let two people check in for the following afternoon at 08.00 who woke me up, played loud music, and generally were disrespectful in the room. When I told the staff, they didn't care or apologise for this.

My favourite hostel in South America! Very warm place and easy to socialize! Very nice dance lessons too!
