The cottage is situated within walking distance of the famous Lantern district with great shops and restaurants. The house was perfect for our needs. Easy driving to the Ocean Institute. We used the WiFi to work remotely. Hot tub was nice!

Nice cottage, kitchen is great! While it was well stocked, many items like the knives were very old. Lamps were missing bulbs or are older pre-LED bulbs, pillows were old and need replacing. Beach gear was broken or very old. Needs lights in the laundry area. Nice to have private garage because street parking was limited.
Within walking distance to restaurants and grocery store.
Doheny Beach is close by and the marina is vet close. Great walking trails along the trails!
Word of caution. There are a LOT of breakable items so may not be best for families with kids.

The cottage was a good fit for us for our week in Dana Point. We used to be local so we appreciated being in a great location. Parking can be a challenge so the garage and driveway were a must for our two vehicles. To say this VRBO is stocked is an understatement. Beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of towels/linens. I also appreciated that the checkout instructions were very cordial as opposed to a literal laundry list of requirements.

Great location. Out of 3 patios to use all were filthy dirty. BBQ was so nasty could not be used. Cleaning people were at the property at checkin time 3:00 p.m. and were not done till 4:30.
I called the Hostess of the property and told her the patios needed to be hosed off but it never happened.

We loved staying in the mermaid cottage. It was very comfortable and the location was peaceful and walkable. Very nice to have a porch. The fire pit was full of water and not usable. And some of the outside spaces need a little cleaning up. But we enjoyed our stay and we’re appreciative of the later check out. Thank you very much for sharing. Such a cozy cottage.

This cottage is so cute and is in a fantastic location. My husband and I loved the outdoor area and sat out there every morning to have our coffee. There are several excellent restaurants less than a mile away, and it’s only a few minutes drive to the 5 freeway. The neighborhood is quiet and the check in, check out process is simple. Highly recommend!

Colorful...Comfortable...Convenient!
We loved staying a week at the Mermaid Cottage! The wall paint and decor were colorful and cheery which felt like a beach getaway for sure. Very uplifting even though it was cloudy and cool our whole stay. Which was fine with us...we enjoyed the firepit and patios everyday and night when we stayed in. Loved the personal touches which made it a comfortable home away from home. You really don't need to bring much...just grab your beach wear, get some groceries nearby and you are set.
Carla was such a pleasure and responded quickly whenever I had a question. Overall great stay...hope to stay again soon!
The Mermaid Cottage is so close to the Harbor...a three min drive really. Our son fished everyday out of Dana Wharf Sportsfishing harbor on their boats. They have many options to fish for all ages and skill!

We would stay here again for sure. Really nice place, walking distance into Dana Point's main attractions. The house was great, the furnishings were pretty low end though. The 3rd bedroom is more of an office connected to the 2nd bedroom but that was fine for us. Was wonderful having the driveway and garage because street parking is a premium in this crowded neighborhood. Booking and the property manager were terrific.

The house has a nice big deck in the front. Could use some new cushion covers as they were a bit worn. The neighborhood is ok. A lot of rental type buildings in the neighborhood, so street parking is hard to find. The garage is nice to have. It was challenging at night to know which driveway to take to get to the garage. Walking to the beach isn’t that close. We ended up driving to Salt Creek, much nicer than the close ones. We liked the restaurants in San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente best.

Great Property
We had a good time at this property! Very clean and inviting ! Loved the garage and the hot tub! The beds were also very comfortable! Close to the beach as well! We would def stay again !

Loved the kitchen area.
Love the kitchen area, all you need to bring is your clothes and the meals you want to prepare, everything else is provided.
Some of the deco in the other rooms are very eccentric and a little overboard.
Also the parking can be an issue in the neighborhood especially if you’re having guests over. All in all… it’s a cozy place to stay!

Perfect!
Love this location! The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The garage is an added bonus as the parking spots on the streets at night can be full. The short walk to the harbor is great and there are plenty of restaurants in the area to walk to also. The three different outside areas were fun also! Great house!

Very comfortable coastal cottage
We really enjoyed our stay. We felt at home immediately. It’s obvious a lot of time and care has been put into making the house as comfortable as possible for guests. It had everything we could have needed. Also, location of the garage is a plus making it very easy to bring in suitcases, groceries, etc. We hope to return.

Shining Lantern District
We enjoyed our stay at the Mermaid Cottage very much. It was all it as advertised to be and more. The two front patios were great especially since we had wonderful weather. It was a short walk to shops and dining and only a short ride to the harbor with more shopping and restaurants. The property manager, Carla, was very helpful and answered all our questions promptly. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Big fan of Dana Point and Majestic Mermaid
Everything far exceeded our expectations which were pretty high given the other reviews. The house was the perfect size for 4 adults, it was clean and well appointed and comfortable. The outdoor living spaces were the icing on the cake for us-we had beautiful weather. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were updated as well as the kitchen-which had everything we needed for ourselves and when we entertained some friends. We also loved that everything was in walking distance-restaurants, the marina, the beach and the paths were clean and well maintained. Dana Point really is a lovely beach community with clean beaches and lots of surfers to watch. Carla is a responsive property manager and helped with restaurant and beach recommendations. I also appreciated that the owner provided beach chairs, beachtowels and an umbrella.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat-loved it!

Wonderful stay at Mermaid Cottage
As usual, we seek out properties that Carla manages because we trust her organization, keen eye, taste, style and attention to detail. The Mermaid cottage was just darling! Great location, quiet, impeccably decorated and containing all the amenities that we needed. Well stocked kitchen, bathrooms, firm comfortable beds, quality linens and towels, plenty of hangers, dining table essentials, soaps and even buggy boards and beach towels. The condo had a raised deck with a lounge area and a dining table that we especially enjoyed. Walking distance to the Dana Point Harbor and to Strands beach. Highly recommend!

Adorable House
This is a lovely cozy home. The front deck was great for evening wine or working during the day. Close walk to parks and harbor (if you don't mind a hill on the way back). Hot tub was an added bonus, I didn't even see that in the listing. Driveway is tight so don't bring a huge SUV, but very appreciated as street parking is crowded.

A great family set-up!
This was a terrific place for us to stay while visiting with our son and his family in Dana Point! The beds were comfortable and we were able to retreat from our son's home when we wanted our space. We also hosted our granddaughter to an overnite, a big teat!

Majestic Mermaid Cottage in Dana Point Ca
This house was amazing! So close to restaurants, shops, (Ralph's within walking distance) and the harbor. The house was extremely well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of all the amenities. The house decor is so fun! We especially loved the "Clock Wall" with the "hidden message" We figured it out on our last day, finally! Checking in and out was a breeze. Carla was great!
The house is very comfortable, great beds with plenty of pillows, towels and linens etc. We traveled with another couple and all of us agreed we would definitely recommend the Mermaid Cottage! What a great stay! We'll be back for sure!

Beautifully decorated home, wonderful patios, clean, comfortable beds. Well stocked kitchen and great location. The WiFi was a bit weak. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would highly recommend the Mermaid Cottage.
