This place was ideal for our needs - it has everything you'd expect from a usual hostel with the bonus of being generally very clean too (the kitchen is SPOTLESS!). The manager, Arthur, was brilliant and offered us a room upgrade, also kept checking in with us and made extending our stay easy! Bed was comfy and we had a heater in our room. Hostel is also really well located, not far from the high street or supermarkets.
Be warned that you can only pay for your reservation with cash on arrival - we knew this but were told others don't. Also the WiFi wasnt great in our room.

One of the best hosts I have had on my journey. Arther was kind, and easy to talk to, eager to share his knowledge of Napier and the surrounding area. Room was a decent size, location was right on the beachfront.
Limited showers and toilets, however that is the only negative I had

Good location, kitchen well equipped and laundry area for drying outside. Staff friendly.
A lot of people are living there long term so difficult to meet other solo travellers. Dish soap and bathroom soaps are watered down and not effective in cleaning dishes to a good standard. Discrepancy in cleaning of bathrooms - upstairs smelt like urine and diarrhoea on one of the toilets through out my stay; downstairs toilets were always clean. Not sure what’s happening there…Some beds have a proper mattress and some are simply a camping foam style.

The staff were friendly, beds were comfy. The location was amazing, right in front of the beach & in the heart of the city. The place was very quiet too.
The property had a shady feel. I wouldn't feel comfortable staying here if travelling solo. Having said that, nothing really happened that made us feel unsafe, it was just the property vibe though.

Room and bathroom are not clean !
Bed sheets could be cleaned better .. the mattress looks like a 100 years old. Bathroom and toilets were not clean too.

The receptionist was very helpful and friendly. It would have been good to have a safe outside place for bikes.

Friendly staff prior to arrival
The hostel was freezing and there was no heating in our room or the kitchen in the morning. I had a steam facial whilst making porridge cause the room was so cold! Bathrooms were grubby.

The location is good. The staff sorted out initial problems with my room and got me a better room with no extra cost on my end. Overall, it was good.
