The dinner was great and the service was exceptional. The staff spoke English and was very friendly.
As a foreigner, It would be nice to have a quick guide on how to wear the yukata that's provided with the room.

For a Ryokan next to Narita, I would say the location is stellar. It's RIGHT next to Shinsoji so you can enjoy leisurely walks - and there's Narita Omotesando, a quaint street to visit! Just 10min walk from the JR Narita station too. It can get pricey, but the 24h hot spring is quite worth it. There are NO outdoor hot springs, just a basic indoor one. It's tattoo-friendly and not over-crowded. I really loved staying in the traditional type room, wearing a yukata, enjoying a gorgeous view.
The staff was constantly helpful and even reminded us when to take the shuttle, how we can use their services, etc. I didn't have food there but the Japanese course Kaiseki sets looked really good! Taking a taxi will cost about 3500yen to the airport. Would recommend to all if you have a long layover, or just wanna spend the last few days near the airport with friends, spouse or family.
It being next to a huge, gorgeous temple, there were extremely loud gongs that woke me up around 6AM in the morning. Not sure if it had anything to do with the festivities, but no amount of sound proofing will stop it. Shopping wise, its going to be mostly food and souvenirs. The nearest mall/Don Quijote is a 20min walk down the mountain so prepare for some exercise. Airport shuttle MUST be arranged 1 DAY BEFORE constantly from JR train station ONLY (and there's a limited time when it's available....) which can be inflexible for some, so just make sure to ask the counter.

Just wow! A great stay for the ryokan experience. I was surprised that there are no in-room showers, but there is an included in-building onsen that becomes your bathhouse. Went during early hours (830a) and late hours (10pm) and there was never anyone else there with me.
The room itself is very roomy!
Great location - right across from naritasan shonji (temple) and also on Omotesando which supposedly has 150+ stores and restaurants. Got to catch a goma (fire) ritual as well as eat some yummy unagi.
I booked this stay purely for a ryokan experience as I had a later flight the next evening, and was not expecting all there was to do/eat/explore. Didn't get to try the dinner, but the traditional Japanese breakfast was great!

this was the absolute perfect place to end our holiday- or to have started it if you’ve had a long journey to Tokyo. it is close to the airport (unless you land at rush hour!) and the area has plenty to keep you occupied for a day in what feels like a very ‘real’ Japanese suburb. it was amazing to wake up to the gongs from the temple and we just loved the Japanese experience of the hotel itself.
given the age of the hotel and facilities, as well as the breakfast (which was probably the quirkiest meal we had while in Japan), we felt the cost was rather high compared to the places we stayed in central Tokyo and other areas. however, I believe this is really the best hotel in Narita in terms of ambience and location.

old ryokan, old street, old temple, delicious kaiseki meal, friendly staff

Staying beside the Shinsoji Temple was a peaceful experience. The garden behind the temple was nice for walks. The staff at Wakamatsu was very accommodating to help arrange for transport to Narita in the early morning. Dinner was an amazing experience and it was the perfect way to end our trip to Japan. We were provided a filling breakfast for takeaway as we had to leave before the vegetarian breakfast service. The indoor bath was nice and clean.

A nice, authentic Japanese experience after landing in Japan. Situated centrally in Narita let's you experience the area properly, and let's you come back to lovely in-room dining. Highly recommended.

Dinner and breakfast are fantastic. We had a suite which was enormous, with dining room, tatami room and a terrace. The view is lovely from the room. The temple is just outside the hotel. Plus it has a public hot bath. Will definitely come back again with visitors. It is a must stop either on your way to or from Narita or as a Tokyo weekend away. Staff is very friendly.

This was my 2nd time in Wakamatsu Honten. My first time was in 2017 with my mom. I came back because I wanted to show my boyfriend around Narita and eat ryokan food! Wakamatsu has a really good dinner set, and the unagi is amazing!

Great location and view!
A real nice place for a small trip.
You can check out the surrounding attractions like Yume Farm and an old Historical town. Staff were incredibly nice and helpful.
The breakfast was great but if you are the type of person who needs meat or eggs with your breakfast, I would just not do the breakfast menu. It’s a great experience to try the traditional monk style food! But if you aren’t adventurous, I would just not get that option.
