Overall space inside was small, kitchen area not much. Cleanliness was at best a D, very dirt entry area, outside area wasn't clean at all, spent first 1/2 after check in cleaning out side area so we could eat outside ( it's the only area to eat). Beach stuff needs to get turned over, very old and dirty

Overall, Mark tried to think of everything a family may need to get the most out of their stay in Maui. The space can accommodate 10, there are games galore, anything you can imagine for the beach, and the location is so convenient to the ocean and town. The welcome baskets were lovely.
However, there are a few things that had we known, we would NOT have booked this location and we shared those concerns with Mark.
1. There is no FULL kitchen. There is a portable 3-burner induction cooktop and a toaster oven. It wasn't easy to cook meals for a family of 10 without a full kitchen.
2. There is full access to the rented 2nd level from the owner's 3rd floor level. A continuous stairwell is blocked by a shower curtain and a bungee cord. We felt very uncomfortable knowing they had access at any time.
3. The condition is not as represented. We expected the property to look like the photos. Perhaps it did 3 years ago when it was new, but it was more run down. The furniture looked like old IKEA dorm room furniture. There wasn't much effort to make sure that guests felt like they were on vacation, instead it was more like were old family guests that were lucky to have a place to stay on the island.
4. It was broom clean and had fresh linens and towels. It needs a serious deep-clean.
We contacted VRBO, and continue to work with them. We made the most of our stay, but the family was disappointed because the 10 of us were there for a 50th wedding anniversary.

I rented the Halama house last week for 7 days. Me and my kids were traveling to meet up and were super excited to all be in Maui together. Upon entry I noticed the house didnt look clean. Didnt smell clean. The bathrooms were dingy. Years of dust and dirt had accumulated everywhere. I contacted the owner who lives in the floor above with his wife. Mark is very sweet. He came down immediately and after some negotiating agreed at his cost to pick up the tab for a cleaner of our choice. We found a company that could come the next day and with a crew of 3 spent six hrs cleaning the house. The negative is that we couldnt be in the house for our first day.
Once clean the house was quite nice! White and brite. Not as big as it seems in the photos but spacious enough for a family of 6. There is a cool veranda to have dinners, view the ocean and relax in ample seating. Pool table and BBQ are downstairs. The pool is great. A fantastic park is next door great for walks/ runs and Kamaole Beach parks for swimming are 5 mins away along w Wailea more secluded beaches close by.
There are pluses and minuses for having the owner real close. Mark was very responsive to any calls or questions. Great. His wife however was a different story. Very icy. Yelled at my daughter who had parked her car wrong. Also there is little insulation between floors and you can hear all their footsteps till late in the evening.
We left the house very clean. All being said we enjoyed our stay and would recommend!

Our family had a wonderful time in Maui staying at Marks place. It was so nice to have us all under one roof with close proximity to shops, restaurants and the park. We walked the half block to the park every night to watch the sunset and the kids played soccer. Each morning we explored a new beach then returned for lunch and swimming in the pool. We loved being able to eat every meal on the lanai at a table that accommodated all 10 of us. Mark was very accessible as he and his wife live on the property but never intrusive. There were a few issues we encountered but Mark responded immediately to resolve them. We especially appreciated the umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, chairs and the beach wagon to get them all to the water.

My family had a great time. Mark the owner was very responsive. He was really close by if anything came up. My oldest kids really enjoyed using the paddle boards. My grandsons learned to swim in the pool. Our entire family and friends, who came over for dinner enjoyed the lenai.

We had an incredible time at this property, it is right next to the beach and a beautiful park. Had eight adults and four children, used the bikes, the boards, the snorkel gear. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again! Amazing views from the wraparound deck. Such a convenient location to restaurants and shopping as well.

This place is perfect for a family group of 13 members. It is near the beach, different eating places, grocery store and other shopping places. It has kayaks and water boards that were easily transported by foot to the water access in less than five minutes. We did activities using these early in the morning when the water was calm.
Although the owner lives on the third floor, he never bothered us. He just made sure that we had everything we needed. My children and grandchildren enjoyed their stay and wished they could go back to the same place given the chance to visit Maui again,

We stayed for 8 nights with 9 people as young as 6 and 7. We rented the second floor without the additional 4th bedroom that was offered. It was perfect for us. We used the kitchen to cook just about everyday. It saved us money on meals for sure. We stopped at Costco on the way in from the airport. The location is literally 100 feet from a private beach access where we launched the kayaks and paddle boards (which were included with the house!). Plenty of other items included as well, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, folding beach cart, life vests, bikes etc. On the ground floor of the rental there are games included; pool, air hockey, ping pong. The pool was very nice and clean. The plants on the property are just beautiful. You can tell a lot of thought and care goes into the landscape. The property is also gated off for privacy and saftey. Plenty of room to park 2 cars off street. Amazing sunsets over the water are just a 3 minute walk away. As well as a park and paved bike/walking path that continues along the water for a mile or so. We saw huge green sea turtles coming up for air right at the shore line the entire trip. The outdoor living space was most used for us. A covered deck wraps around the entire unit with plenty of comfortable seating throughout. There’s a stove and fridge outside on the deck as well. The views and atmosphere were terrific! Only 2-3 blocks away from shopping and night life. We will definitely be back if we circle to Maui again

aLTHOUGH ADVERTISED AS BEACHFRONT PROPERTY, HAD TO DRIVE To 'good' beaches. Owner Mark was easy to get along with, but wife seemed to be a bit "bitchey." Glad I didn't have to deal with her. wE GOT THERE EARLY FOR CHECKIN and tHAT UPSET HER.

Mark's home was just perfect for our family vacation. Our party of 7 adults were very comfortable in this space; we did add the 4th bedroom. The kitchen space was extremely convenient. You cannot beat the location or the views. And we saved so much money using the SUPs, kayaks, and other beach gear instead of having to rent them separately. I cannot recommend this stay enough. I already miss it!

Fun in the sun with our family! Lots of add on’s were enjoyed at the beaches! Bikes were rode, kayaks were paddles, snorkeling was done and wagon and stroller used a lot! Thanks hosts!

Beautiful stay on a beautiful island! This rental is very clean and close to a park, the ocean, a small beach and many shops. Easy walk to grab a few groceries or a coffee. It was also wonderful to have boogie boards and paddle boards available to use and a beach wagon to haul over chairs. We were grateful to have them to use. The bikes would have been great too however, there were some tire issues, probably all need new tubes. That said it wasn’t that big of a deal, we just walked. The outside view off your porch is fantastic! Whales can be seen right from that porch. We really enjoyed having our coffee and breakfast out there each morning. There is a noise rule from 9pm to 9am which I appreciate and we did our best to follow (we were with 5 kids/young adults.) That said, I do wish the rest of the neighbors followed this rule. There was quite a bit of fighting, loud music, and cars peeling out from right next door both day and night. They bummed me out. Our host Mark was quite nice though and very informative, I valued his knowledge and suggestions. All in all, a wonderful stay. Mahalo!

Walkable to so much, short drive or bike ride (with provided bikes) to the rest. Comfy beds, and a great outdoor living space where we spent the majority of our time. The small pool is perfect for a cooling dip on a mellow afternoon. We'd stay again!

This property is the total package. Huge patio with mountain and ocean views, privacy, 5 minute walk to restaurants and shops, private pool, and all recreational gear for use. We couldn’t have been happier with the week we spent here. As stated, owners do live on property on the 3rd level, but they are very respectful of guest privacy. I think I ran into the owner twice out of the 6 days we were there. Thanks again Mark.

My cousins and I saw the pics and researched the proerty before booking, but we had no idea how incredible this home would be for our stay. There were 9 adults on this trip and this house comfortably accommodated all of us. It is in the perfect spot with restaurants and shops nearby and is on a part of the island that isn't inundated with tourists, while still having easy access to some of the more iconic spots on the island. Mark and his wife provide bikes, snorkels, paddle boards, and any other sporting equipment that would enhance a visit to Maui. If you're not a bike rider, the moped rental shop is a literal 2-minute walk up the street. The house does not sit on the beach, but when I slept with the patio door open, I'd wake up to waves crashing on the shore. I made the 5 minute walk to the beach nearly every morning. This home is amazing and our hosts were incredibly gracious and responsive. My cousins and I are already planning our return visit.

The rental was great for our family of 10. Everything was included for a great holiday including household and beach needs. The pool was great and we all enjoyed afternoon swims after a busy day. We were central to so many adventures.

Excellent Location and Beautiful Views!
The property is very nicely kept. We had teens who needed to be entertained and the pool was excellent for that. The kids took out the kayaks and the snorkel gear came in handy. We really liked how close the house was to the beach, restaurants and park. It felt very safe and pleasant. The rooms were clean and the balcony was a great spot for watching the sunrises.

Loved the lanai and the location. So close to the beaches and easy to get around. The place was clean and Mark had so many ways to keep teens entertained. The pool was clean and warm.

My stay
Location was lovely and accessible to a great park, local public beaches, etc. the property came with loads of things to do and a nice private pool. Owners were very accommodating and not overbearing. If you are looking for a completely private experience then know that as in the description the owners of the property live in the unit above the rented unit. Overall a very good experience for the price point offered.

Great house in fantastic location
We stayed for 7 days at this property. It is in the best location in Kehei with great park and beach access as well as a short walk to the shops. The lanai is huge and comfortable with a great view out. Beds are comfortable. SUPs, kayaks and bikes are all in great condition. Very well appointed with all the beach supplies you will need.

Incredible house, incredible location!
Mark has a beautiful house in an amazing setting close to the shore and walking distance to anything you might need. He was a gracious, helpful host. The house is extremely comfortable and the pool fabulous. Can't be more positive about our stay - this is what home sharing is all about.

Our Stay in Maui
Our family had a truly wonderful stay at the Halama St. house. The kids loved the pool so much that they barely wanted to go anywhere else! The house had a great location for us, being easily accessible to many beaches, restaurants, places to walk, etc. Highly recommend.

Activities and amenities galore!
The location was superb. The beach was across the street, with easy access. The number of ocean amenities were endless: paddleboards and kayaks (which gave easy visits to whales and turtles), boogie boards, beach chairs, unbrellas, sand toys, and even a beach wagon to carry it all to the shore. Meanwhile, back at the house, people could play foosball, pool, or air hockey. Sharing a big table on the lanai was a great way for family dinners and game playing (which they also had lots of--scrabble, poker, Ticket to Ride, etc.). Mark and Kathy gave us room to do as we wished (swimming in the pool), but were readily available if we had questions or needed help. All nine of us had a wonderful time! Thanks!

Amazing accommodation
Mark and Kathy were always available to respond to any needs and issues during our two week stay. The use of the “toys” provided were much appreciated including the beach umbrella and wagon to transport what we needed at the beach for the day. The location was great with grocery shopping close by (we walked there) playground for the kids surf beach for the adults. We were a family of 5 adults one toddler and one baby and this was a perfect home for us The private pool was truly enjoyed daily. With Covid we felt very safe in this home. You will definitely enjoy your time here.

Location, Location, Location
We couldn't have asked for a better location - steps from the beach, gorgeous sunrises, countless amenities, and many food options nearby. Mark was a helpful and attentive host. We enjoyed the lanai, the pool, the grill, and the gaming tables. The bedrooms and bathrooms easily accommodated our family of four, plus two sets of grandparents. Thanks for a welcoming home base on Maui!

An excellent week in Kihei, courtesy of Mark and Kathy Logan
Our large family had an AMAZING time staying at Hale Hai Hai last week. The location was absolutely perfect on so many levels, and Mark and Kathy could hardly have been more gracious, responsive, and accommodating. The space was exactly as described, and there were so many extras that are difficult to plan a vacation around. Things like a cooler, beach chairs, towels, Boogie boards, snorkeling gear - all available for guests. We didn't even avail ourselves of all of the options, but they are there to be had. I really can't recommend this location enough - so many excellent beaches to the south, good food and shopping options within walking distance, etc. Thank you Mark and Kathy!

Wonderful home for our family vacation
The property was the perfect place for a family vacation. The location was ideal with close beach access and a short walk to restaurants, local shopping and a park. The property came equip with a variety of water sport equipment, bikes and games. It was so fun to grab a paddle board or kayak to go for a quick morning adventure or ride the bikes through the park along the beach.
It was so nice to visit on the lanai in the morning with a cup of coffee and in the evening for dinner.
Mark was very responsive and helpful before and during our stay. The owners were very respectful of our privacy and we hardly knew they were on the property.
We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend the Hale Hai Hai!!

Fantastic Place/Location
This was the perfect place to stay in Maui. There were two couples on our trip. The location is ideal, short walk to many restaurants, bars, and shops. The water is a stones throw away and we went down there every night for sunset (1 minute walk) although there is also a great sunset view from the lanai. The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and the place was very clean. There are ceiling fans and AC in every room. The use of the kayaks/paddle boards was a great bonus and they can be launched directly across the street from the house. Just make sure to get on the water early as the trade winds really pickup between 10 - 11 AM each morning. Those same trade winds also make the lanai the ideal place to hang out with some tasty beverages each afternoon/evening. The owners live upstairs and are very responsive to any questions you may have. They also completely respect your privacy and you will not even know they are there unless you contact them. We would definitely recommend this place.

Great amenities
great to have 3 beds/2 baths with pool, game tables, lots of outdoor lanai area and proximity to beaches, grocery store, etc. The use of all the beach equipment (tents, umbrella, chairs, Jenga games and snorkel equipment), plus kayaks/boogie boards was an added bonus.
