£109 for a 2 double bed outhouse sounds reasonable enough, having brought along a small dog we paid an extra excess of £20. Upon arrival at 11pm the owner told us the excess would be used to pay for the cleaner. Having checked out our accommodation for the night the only question that came to mind was ‘what cleaner?’ The first thing we noticed was that a single bite of pizza had been left behind on the shoe rack. The floors were so sticky that we essentially had to peel our shoes off the floor with every step we took. The table and chairs were broken, the former being held together by a knife. Not to mention absolutely grimy. Thankfully there was enough cleaning products to wipe it all down clean and cover with plastic bags before use. The bed sheets and towels had yellow stains…… a sign of the previous renters enjoying themselves? We certainly did not! And if the above didn’t sting enough there were several live wasps that came to visit and dead bugs scattered around the floor. In summation the floors, the walls and generally every surface was covered in grime. With little to no sleep, it’s fair to say we couldn’t wait to leave as soon as the sun came up! to the owner - you have an obligation to ensure the place is clean and as advertised!
