The five of us had a wonderful time. My husband's job brought us to North Yorkshire 1975-1977. Our two oldest children were born in Harrogate General and we lived in the nearby village of Galphay and later in Ripon. We were so happy to find Hope House, so we could retrace our steps and show our adult children where they lived.
We had been looking forward to fish and chips; the fish and chips and other items at nearby Kirkby Fisheries were delicious.
The drive to Pateley Bridge through the moors was lovely. Watch out for the sheep in the road! At Pateley Bridge, we visited ‘The Oldest Sweet Shop in the World'. The guys got a pint at the Crown Inn and we girls had ice cream.
The view of the River Nidd from Knaresborough Castle is everything that I remember. We also saw the river from another viewpoint, the railway, when we took the train out of Harrogate to York. We walked down the Shambles, the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter series. We marveled at the craftsmanship of the York Minster.
We also visited Ripon Cathedral.
We took so many pictures during our trip through the Yorkshire Dales to Skipton Castle. The landscape is breath taking.
Hope House exceeded our expectations. The village is beautiful and the neighbors are friendly. The modern updates added to the charming accomodations. The information booklet about the house and local businesses, and the welcome gifts were much appreciated. This is a trip we will always remember.
