The staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable to sleep in. The shower pressure was excellent. These things made the stay ok. We stayed during the week so it was nice and quiet in the evening.

Steep steps are not so good for an 80-year-old. We used the outside steps, the inside steps were too steep for her. Net curtains dark brown/ black stains on the bottom of them. Found a wire from a wine bottle top on the floor under the table, gave the feeling the room had not been cleaned properly. Overall, the room felt a bit run down and drab, could do with some TLC.

The room (room 1) was very tired and cramped, the door to the deck didn't lock, most importantly the plumbing noises kept us awake at night.

Within walking distance of all things in the town, beautiful old building, and accommodation was the standard we had anticipated. Very small room, but that, too, was anticipated. Food in the bistro was good, and plentiful. Pub food. Clean and fit for purpose.

Nothing definitive, Don't expect The Grand to provide 5 star accommodation, you will be disappointed. A good pub experience, all the same.

The hotel was located next to the venue of the French Festival. The only food available there was curry and Thai food, so we had a great meal in the downstairs bar of the hotel instead. We enjoyed sitting on the upstairs balcony of the hotel.

Room was good size and the pretty French lady behind the bar gave us a free drink as we waited for our room to be ready and gave us a discount when i removed the diary options from my brownie.

Stairs were alittle small which gave my partner vertigo. Bathroom door vacuum sealed itself.

No breakfast. Evening meal great not many tv channels in rooms. Great staff

The pub food was amazing!!! Loved the king bed. A few more Chanel’s on the tv could be good. All round would stay again! Lovely spot up on the balcony looking to see in the morning. Great that they had live music too that can’t be heard from up stairs in the rooms.

I found it difficult to make a booking in Akaroa & expected the hotel old & gruppy so was pleasantly surprised. They

The hotel itself was not clean, and our room looked like it hadn't been properly vacuumed in a while (thick layers or dust around the furniture feet). The bathroom floor was also sticky which was not pleasant. Our room smelled musty and the bedding was slightly damp, with a couple of ants in the jug (glad I checked before I made myself a coffee). Honestly it felt like more like a backpackers and I was gravely disappointed especially with what we payed.

Akaroa is beautiful and the Grand provides a comfortable and great value place to stay.

TOO HOTT. we were so uncomfortable!! unbearably hott. made it very hard to enjoy the stay. we were provided with ice and then were told that ice would have to be purchased at a fee…. the fridge was very full. cleaning was done minimally.

Very hot, no air conditioning, room in full sun at 33 degrees. Needs some repairs eg rusty shower rail, obvious previous water leak in ceiling. No fridge in room, one in corridor which was full of packed lunches for other guests
