Our extended family spanning three generations thoroughly enjoyed the annual reunion. A major contributing factor was Mark's warm and generous hospitality. From prebooking to throughout our weeklong stay, he was kind, responsive and more than accommodating. The home itself met our needs and preferences so well. We especially appreciated that we could convene as a group in numerous parts of the house, but also enjoy privacy and quiet moments when desired.Of all the vacation home rentals we've been in over the years, the Whiting Cottage's kitchen was the most well stocked we've seen. The gift basket and fresh flowers were welcoming bonuses greeting us upon arrival. A culinary highlight of the week was the lobster meal including lobster bisque from Southern Maine Lobster Company. The York location was perfectly suited for visiting Coastal Maine.Thank you, Kinton family, for sharing your amazingly lovely home. We cherish the wonderful memories that were created during our stay.

It is usually location .. location … location … but this host and home are the best. To say the house is a “rambler” understates it. This is a large beautifully detailed house. We were a 50th Reunion of men from U Maine. Playing golf, cook outs and stories. The house: A main kitchen … which become the gathering spot however several rooms have mini kitchenettes. If someone wants some privacy… you have it.
Mark, our host and his family goes above and beyond. From lobster recommendations (they are so fresh !!!!). To making sure every need was met. The location is central to everything.
If I could give SIX stars I would gladly do so.

This property was even better than we imagined! It was so clean, the owners were amazing, very communicative and helpful:) We all had our own space so we could take private moments as well as bond and congregate in the main living room/kitchen/dining areas/porches etc. The house is also very conveniently located. We had such a blast that we all agreed we may have to stay here again soon:)

Gathered my large group together for a weekend, and was surprised by the accommodations. Mark met me onsight to show me the property, and everything about it. Nice personalized experience with plenty of space for everyone to stay. High attention to detail throughout the house.
Hard to find a large enough place for my group but this had the room for us. If for some reason I have a need for that style weekend again up here, I'll look to this property first.

The property did not disappoint! It exceeded our hopes and expectations! The host was no small part of that achievement! The house accommodated our group of 13 without even stretching its capacities! We absolutely LOVED our stay, even when it rained most of the day on the Saturday of our getaway weekend. We would come back in an instant, and extend our enjoyment of the house, the property, the easy walk to the Cliff Walk along the Atlantic Coast of Maine, the York shops, the easy access to Outlet stores in Kittery and Freeport! We like to cook, and the kitchen was well-equipped to comfortably support our group, and beyond! Our hosts were beyond welcoming, accommodating, and generous!

This property is amazing! It is way bigger in person and accommodates large groups or even smaller groups who each want their own bedroom and bathroom. The house is a quick walk to the gorgeous Cliff Walk. We spent Saturday in Portsmouth for a girls shopping weekend York was the perfect place to call home for a few days. Highly recommend!

Mark was a great host! Very informative at the start of our 4 day stay that greatly assisted us and our whole crew throughout the weekend. The house is HUGE! It was a great place for a large group while giving everyone their own space so it didn't feel like we were always on top of each other, etc. Thanks Mark!

The Whiting House is an absolutely beautiful, clean, well decorated venue. It provided excellent accommodations for my family, the bridal party and our close relatives. The first floor living room wing was used as the bridal suite for wedding preparations for the bride and bridesmaids. The front porch is so large that one side was used for the rehearsal dinner and the other side was filled with outside seating to relax. The large main kitchen allowed for morning coffee and breakfast. Everyone remarked on how lovely and accommodating the venue was for this event.
Mark was a wonderful host who communicates well and offered suggestions to help us make wonderful memories for a lifetime. So very grateful to him. His family are very good people and this is a highly recommended venue.

We rented the house for a week - Mark was incredibly helpful and responsive both pre and during our visit. The house is in a great location - walk to town and beaches - and is perfect inside and out for a family get together. We highly recommend Whiting Cottage!

Lovely large home which accommodated all 15 of us. Plenty of room to be together or spread out on our own. Very nice front porch even on a rainy day. Great beaches close by to enjoy. The memories we made will be treasured by all of us forever. Mark the host was a pleasure to speak to an answered any questions we had. I would definitely recommend this rental. Ella

My extended family of fifteen (ages 16-87) came to celebrate our parents 60th wedding anniversary. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this house and our host. Mark was so accommodating in many ways. The house is, by far, the cleanest rental I’ve ever stayed in and the location is perfect. It’s close to the beach, ice cream, and shopping; yet, it’s quiet at night The house has plenty of space to all be together or have alone time. Mark was a great resource for restaurants. We ate out some nights, but cooked as well. The kitchen is very functional. We loved our week there!

We had a wonderful experience spending the week in York. Our host Mark was exceptional! He took the time to review our plans and needs, and provided us with information and options to explore. The house was everything we dreamed it to be. We had a wonderful stay and are already looking forward to our next family reunion.

This large expensive home, which has been recently renovated and was an excellent choice for a large extended family. We were a group of 13 adults and four children and we had plenty of space for all of us to come together for meals, socializing, games, as well as privacy, if desired.
This wonderful home was immaculately clean and had all of the amenities we required, and then some.
Tom was an excellent host and could not have been more accommodating, polite and did everything possible to ensure our stay was enjoyable. He was a pleasure to work with.
The location was excellent as we could walk to one beach within a few minutes or drive to other beaches five minutes away. Likewise, York is within close proximity to Portsmouth, Ogunquit and other wonderful locations along the Maine and New Hampshirite coast.
We look forward to returning as soon as possible

This home and the owners are exceptional all around! From pre-arrival communications, unbelievably accommodating upon arrival, and availability at all hours to troubleshoot or give advice during the week we were there! We could not have asked for better hosts! The layout of the home was perfect for our large family. Plenty of room to gather or spread out, prime location close to many great restaurants, beaches and idyllic walks along the coast. There are not enough positive adjectives to describe our experience at this Cottage. We will be back!!!

Mark was an amazing host. He and I touched base several times before our trips to discuss the house, things to do in the area, and he hooked us up with a fabulous lobster bake company who prepared the meal at our house. He met us at the property to answer questions and go over how everything worked and even made sure we would have dinner available due to our late arrival time. The house is beautiful and easily fit our group of 19. Amenities were great - from a welcome basket to supplies. And having a bathroom for each bedroom was a huge plus.

Whiting Cottage is a fantastic place for a family reunion! The house itself is well-appointed and extremely comfortable. The dining room is spacious so that everyone fits in one room! The kitchen has everything one needs, and if it isn’t there, superhost Mark acquires it for you within the hour!! (in our case, a steamer pot with spigot). We enjoyed congregating on the wide front porch. Ample room for games in grassy side yard. Best of all was the host— we have never stayed somewhere with a more caring and responsive caretaker. Any problem instantly addressed and fixed asap! Location superb— a short walk to the Cliff Walk. We were all very happy we held our family reunion here!

We had a wonderful time gathering as an extended family to celebrate our daughter’s high school graduation at this beautiful home. Everyone being under the same roof with plenty of separate sleeping spaces and bathrooms made our stay so comfortable with endless fun. The home was spotless and extremely well appointed. It was stocked with extra blankets, every kitchen gadget you can imagine, even sugar for your coffee. Our whole family, especially our daughter, will remember our weekend at the Whiting Cottage forever.

This was an amazing stay for a family wedding weekend. Lots of folks traveling to meet up and spend some family time together. The house was just as described and was perfect for lots of togetherness and yet had plenty of cozy spots for quiet areas to escape the crowd! All the bathrooms made it simple for everyone to get ready for the big event.
Fabulous hospitality! They were also able to accommodate our 18 month old grandchild with a high chair, baby gates and a pack and play!
The bedding and towels were top quality and very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. The house was the cleanest rental we have been in!
The fire pit in the backyard was hit, and that front porch was an ideal gathering spot for the whole group, from morning coffee, to cocktails in the afternoon. A wonderful place to celebrate family and have a relaxing and fun long weekend!

The house was absolutely perfect for our group of 20 looking for a weekend getaway. The house was clean, spacious, and had a beautiful backyard ideal for lawn games or hanging by the fire pit. Our group also particularly enjoyed relaxing on the balcony and porch during the evenings. The owner Mark was an excellent host; he was both responsive and helpful. He met us at the property and provided a quick tour. He even called afterwards to ensure our stay was comfortable and request and feedback.
I would absolutely recommend this home for a larger group looking to get away for a few days.

There aren’t the words to properly express our gratitude for this weekend’s stay. Everything was perfect. The host and his family went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and even brought us flowers. The house and the grounds are something out of a movie, and it perfectly fits a large group. We had a dinner party on the front porch one night, highly recommend!

We were a group of 8 adults and 4 children under 5 - this house was perfect for us! Each family had their own space. The house was very clean and ready for us upon arrival. Mark and Lauren (owners) met us upon arrival, we’re extremely helpful and accommodating and VERY responsive. They even helped with suggestions on things to do and places to go. We had a wonderful trip and highly reccomend this property!

House was perfect for our needs! It was decorated for the upcoming holidays and was beautiful. We had plenty of room for all 18 of us - plenty of room to gather and to spread out when needed. Host was very helpful and available immediately when needed!

This house was perfect for celebrating my boyfriends 30th. We had 14 people sleep over with plenty of room for others to join if needed. Having the extra bathrooms and bedrooms made everyone feel comfortable and gave people their privacy as needed.
The kitchen/dinning room area was where we spent most of our time... cooking, playing games, socializing and enjoying meals. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook for one night and then have the second night catered.
It was in a beautiful neighborhood and we enjoyed the cliff walk on Saturday morning!
Plenty of space to park and the hosts were great!
Mark and Lauren where available to answer all questions at anytime. They were very welcoming. Would rent this home again.

The property was beautiful with enough bathrooms for a big group (all 22 of us came). We loved that there were different sitting rooms for smaller groups to hang out in. Overall the property was very cosy, the hosts very responsive and kind. I would highly recommend this to everyone!

We came to this house for 2 days of work as a leadership team. The house was a perfect spot to think and be free from distractions. It's clean and works well for large groups. It's wild how many people it can sleep; all the beds are super comfortable! The family who owns it is welcoming and kind. They gave us great dinner recs, helped us immediately with questions and were available if we needed them. Wonderful hosts - we will be back!

Where should I even begin? Mark and his family were the most welcoming, gracious and helpful hosts ever. I will never forget their kindness and welcoming energy. The house is absolutely breathtaking. Pristine clean, with more than enough space for all of our guests, we genuinely enjoyed each gathering space, particularly the dining area and kitchen.
The kitchen is a dream and well equipped. The whole house was stocked and they even left firewood for us. Our evening fire was beautiful with a nice crisp fall breeze and leaves falling all around us, one would think they were in heaven.
The amazing welcome gift basket was an additional bonus. So yummy! We hope to not only return, but also keep in touch with Mark.
Best decision about our whole trip, was staying here.

We were a group of 17 High School friends from the 60's. We wanted to stay under one roof with privacy, but space for getting together for conversations and group fun. The Whiting Cottage looked perfect with a detailed and complete description. The pictures did not do it justice - it was perfect! The rooms were clean with fresh linen and tasteful decorations. Everything we needed was provided. The Kinton family met us on arrival and answered every question on the tour.
We ordered Lobsters and Clams from Tom's Southern Maine Lobster Company and were treated to 5 star feast to rival the Ritz.
Mark, Erin, Lauren and Tom could not have been more helpful. Two in the group manage VRBO properties, and this was setting a new standard.

Could not have asked for a better experience staying at the Whiting Cottage for a friends weekend in York. Mark and his family were extremely accommodating and communicative throughout our stay. The property is perfect for large parties, with multiple bathrooms, sitting areas, and kitchens throughout the house. I absolutely would recommend this property for any other large groups and would love to stay here again.

Our extended family of 19 enjoyed a memorable week at the Whiting Cottage.
Morning walks to Long Sands Beach, lazy beach days at York Harbor, afternoon whiffle ball games in the yard, apps on the deck and family dinners at the dining room table could not have been more perfect!
The common areas were used for family game nights, sing alongs and late night story telling. They were also ideal for our special occasion Lobster Bake, hosted by Southern Maine Lobster. The Whiting Cottage was equipped with everything our family needed and more, in order to accommodate ages 3-74!
From the moment we booked the Whiting Cottage, until the day we checked out, the Kinton Family was a pleasure to work with as well as get to know. Mark and his family have done it right! They have created a welcoming home for families and we cannot wait to book again for next summer!

The Whiting Cottage was perfect to accommodate our family of 18! Grandma, Grandpa, our three children and their spouses , our 8 grandchildren and grandson in law and friend. The Clambake at the house from Southern Maine Lobster was wonderful and the highlight of week! Plus Marks delicious surprise to finish our fabulous week!

The house is large in beautiful location. The many bedrooms and bathrooms and spacious common areas make it ideal for a large family gathering. The massive front porch is a great place to sit relax and watch the world go by. The back deck has a large dining table and the barbecue is big enough to cook for the entire crowd.
The beach is an easy stroll along the sidewalk or a short hike along the cliff walk.
The owner is the host and a long time resident of the area. He's a nice guy and a good source for recommendations for things to see and do. His son runs a Lobster shop less than ten minutes from the house and they cook up delicious lobster and steamers for take out.
I highly recommend the place.

Spectacular York Harbor vacation!
Every year I bring 15 close family members to York for a week in Jul,. A collection of children and adults, and I am the host.
The Whiting Cottage was just perfect! The owners/ hosts were amazingly accessible, considerate and made my whole family feel at home, and the house had plenty of space for everyone to be together or spread out. We are sad to be back home already!!!

This property was in the perfect location in York. It was close to all the best beaches and shopping! The first thing we noticed was how clean the entire house was. It was beautifully decorated and organized. There was not one detail overlooked. Any amenity you could think of was provided, including a fully stocked solo stove, board games galore, beach towels, extra blankets and any kitchen item you could think of! We had plenty of room for our large family and friends to stay comfortably. There was plenty of parking and outside space to play games in the yard or roast marshmallows on the solo stove!
From the first connection with the owners, I felt that we had found a diamond in the rough! The owners were the most accommodating people I've ever encountered in my long journey with rentals! I would wholeheartedly recommend this house for a rental!
