A very nice and clean apartment. A very kind family! I felt so sorry to wake them up at 1am as our flight arrived ~10pm and it took me some time to figure things out including the rental car. The couple is super nice amd welcomed us with smiles. Nice decorations. Big bathroom and good sized bedrooms. All are very clean. They also allowed me to use their washer and dryer which is important to moms. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids, one is 5’6 and the other one is 5’4 and the beds worked totally fine for us - comfortable and we all slept soundly every night. We actually did not need eye masks. They also let us use their kitchen which is really helpful as due to jet lag, we ate dinner like ~11pm so during our 5 nights stay, a couple of nights we bought frozen pizzas and noodles cups. If you also come from the US, the review from Brian below probably will be helpful to you. He gave a lot of details. I don’t agree with him on the City though as 1 day during our stay, was Iceland’s national day so it was fun to us to walk around in the city and observe the celebration. Also we don’t use soap bar anyway in the US so their soap worked fine for us. Overall, it was a great stay! High recommended.

The room was very comfortable! We had our own bathroom and pretty much our own floor (since there were no other guests in the other room). The kitchen is also on the floor we were - which was wonderful. When they came down to cook/clean - we could ask questions without having to intrude on their living space upstairs. It was very quiet. The floors in the house were WARM - didn't need my slippers. The hosts were wonderful! VERY HELPFUL. Happy to talk with us and answer all our questions. They were even willing to drive us to rent a car (after we decided renting one would be best). They introduced us to some amazing local food and recommended a fantastic restaurant that was exactly what we wanted. We found the location lovely. However, it's in an apartment complex.
You have to walk to get a view (nearby, but blocked by other buildings) I rated this lower, not because we had an issue - but because thought those wanting a beautiful view might be surprised... Overall, we had a wonderful time and fully enjoyed our hosts. Just wish we could get them to send us some of the wonderful bread they introduced us to! :)

My group and I stayed here during our first night in Iceland. There were 4 of us total, we each had a private bedroom to ourselves and shared and very spacious bathroom. Host was very welcoming and easy to communicate with. We got a good nights rest after a long morning of travel and being out in the city for the day. Definitely a good place to stay in Reykjavik, don’t miss out!

Although this was a very nice property we did not stay. The listing says it sleeps 4. However we had 3 adults and there were just two twin beds. There was no way it was going to work unless one of us stayed on the floor. Luckily we were able to secure alternate accommodations. I worked with the owner and we reached a solution. Also - the listing does say it is “shared space” and it truly is “shared”, as it is actually in a family’s apartment that they live in. It was not the experience we were looking for. It is also a bit off the beaten path.

Things to know if from USA (or similar):
Use the address they give you in Google or Apple Maps and know that you are looking for unit 16. It is the THIRD floor, with no elevator. so if old, take it slow but I had no issue (45, healthiest, teo bags).
You cannot get in the INNER door until he gives you a key. Outer door is unlocked. Push the NO NAME on it, TOP button on the RIGHT when enter the foyer to call him so he can buzz you in. He will give you a key to get in the apartment inner door and his apartment once arrive.
He lives upstairs w his wife and your daughter. They are super quiet and interact as little or much as you want. I basically did the golden circle; southern coast; etc and just came back every night at 8 pm, shower, crash, repeat. They let you have access to their frig; stove; etc so if bring food like me (oatmeal, instant coffee, etc) they let me boil water; use utensils; etc. they do NOT have a microwave you Americans like me so don’t bring microwaveable foods. I didn’t ask to use their laundry machine but they seemed nice re such things (I brought my own Tide Deom America and washed clothes later in week at an apartment that had a washer and dryer).
It is 15 min + from downtown. Ie. Close if have car but ow you will need to taxi or find one of those w-scooters that are everywhere.
Bring bar soap if from USA. Every place in Iceland I found used the foam soap+hand approach. So bring bar of soap or use foam soap which they (and everyone) offer with a washcloth.
The showers IMO are all tepid. Every single hotel…. Geothermal to them _> warmish by American standards. I stayed at Fosshotel ($$$$) and it was also tepid. Just a heads up before you are surprised. The way to use Iceland showers is turn the RIGHT knob the farthest up or down (depending on what makes it hot… his has a child lock on it ther you push in to get it to the max heat). The LEFT handle controls volumed by mixing in the cold water. I always cranks the hot side to max and then turn the left one to volume I like.
Good luck. I did everything and Rick Steves book. As a whole I think Iceland is a 6 Max trip if have a car and fast. 1 days golden. 2 days southern loop. 1 day to just walk the capital and good meal (not much to do there IMO unless a foodie, young person that likes to drink?bar?etc, despite the adverts for the city; Pearl; iceland museum; Harpa; etc). I got bored of the city after a day and I walked everywhere w walking tour guide.
