Booked a private room for 5, including adults and kids. Room 25 is just under the dining room which was full of an adult group having boisterous fun until 1 or 2 am (only slowed after complaining because kids couldn’t sleep and asked to quiet down - not soundproof so felt like we were laying in middle of a bar or party). Adults just having fun - would have loved it on an adult trip in my 20’s. Knew as a hostel it would be simple beds and loud but assumed quiet hours at least by midnight but there were none, okay to be loud 24hrs. Beds were fine - bunks not creaky, bed quite firm but ok and private, comforter plush. Great shared bathroom just across from room, clean with 3 private showers and 2 toilets. Wish it had been communicated that towels were available for fee - wasn’t told and didn’t show in Hotels post or email. Location is great, walking distance of food, stores, river, activities. Parked in Blossom st car park a reasonable walking distance for reasonable £11. Again would do well for a girls trip or adult fun late into night. I didn’t sleep and kids didn’t much either so were miserable. York was so busy for holiday market after restless night it was too much for them so disappointing it was a bit of a wasted trip altogether.

Good: excellent location, walkable distance from train station and town centre. Bunk beds had curtains and you could just close it and be private. Place was quiet.
Bad: Staff at the reception were not friendly, at times rude and dismissive. The owner should come down sometimes to check it. The atmosphere wasn't friendly, not a good place to make new friends. There were tables, chairs and armchairs on the ground floor but people sat individually and spent time on their phones. Bedrooms very bad cleaned, dust pilled up under/side of beds. Terrible mattress. Toile/shower cubicle very small, shower plug blocked which created a pool every time I had a shower. Not very pleasant!

The property is very attractive, the whole idea of using the history is good but.....10 people in a dorm with one tiny capsule en suite is not really adequate and it was not well maintained. Too few waste bins in the dorm and bathroom. People in top bunks had poor access to plugs. No free tea or coffee available. Generally a Hostel that is trying to be an hotel.

It was the worst place I've stayed in my entire life, the shower didn't work on any of the days I was there, I made 6 complaints and nothing was resolved, there simply wasn't hot water, the bathroom and room were only cleaned one day Anyway, thank God I'm in another hotel here in York, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The place needs kitchetes, a tv room and laundry facilities. Strong rules about losing your accommodation if you are found to make too much noise after 12 pm. The place needs a deep clean and the shower facilities need improving. Shared toilets are a bad idea and must be super uncomfortable for women.

It's exactly what you would expect from a cheap hostel in the middle of a busy city. I needed somewhere to sleep and I got it. I did however have a couple of issues whilst I was staying. My locker was positioned somewhere where it was inaccessible. As I was staying one night It didn't bother me too much as I had 1 bag with few valuables and I slept with it in my bunk. But where I staying longer and had more baggage, it could have been a problem. Also the toilet door kept jamming in my shared room. That definitely needs looking at. On the whole though, it's a reasonable experience for such a low price.

Overall the hostel was great. Some slight unclean areas and maybe an investment is the bathroom areas could be better. Common areas such as halls and lobby were up to date and tidy. The hostel seemed very quiet for a saturday, some noise on the Sunday morning but it was no different to staying in the usual hotel chains apart from the bathroom size in our dorm. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The location was great for the York night life

Staff where lovely, although the room was dirty, floor had not been swept, bathroom sink had toothpaste all over the basin, toilet had clearly been used, shower had a red stain on the floor. Food was mediocre only good thing was the one young lady that was at the bar giving drinks.

Was kept awake by loud snoring from the neighbouring bunk and intermittent giggling from the bunk opposite. Early in the night the woman in a bunk on the other side demanded that I silence the clicking on my mobile as I typed.

We loved the building, and there were lots of informative plaques around the house explaining architecture, usage, and history. We used the luggage room to stash our bags before and after checking in / out. Really useful.
The staff were very friendly, and it the local area has lots of restaurants to chose from, and not far from city centre.

On arrival I was welcomed and supported from the moment I walked through the door. Staff treat me well and allowed me to leave my bags. I certainly be returning.

Hostel on its own is in a really great spot, 10 minutes to the center on foot
and a few meters from hostel there is a great pub called Brewdog. The parking might get a bit problematic, as in the near surroundings there are no free parking places. The shower was really cold, so if you expect a relax after a long day, this is not for you. Also if you wanna have a really nice sleep, choose a room with less other guests, they might get a bit noisy whily returning from evening bars.

We stayed in the family room on the 3rd floor. The room was clean and spacious but the bathroom is tiny and the shower water was lukewarm. We did not have any problems with noise at night during our midweek stay. Breakfast was good with a variety of beads, meats, cheese, cereal juice, coffee, tea and yogurt.

Overall is good. The staff are great. Room is a bit cold but it’s probably coz someone keeps opening it. I had a problem with the shower that I cannot adjust the water right and had to shower in lukewarm water. Breakfast is good.

Very unique decor and really fun atmosphere. The price was great and the bed was comfortable. The room was really cold. There were space heaters but they didn’t really work. It was an overall great experience and we would stay again.

However, returning to my bed in the evening of my second night I found someone else sleeping in there. We had to go to reception where there was a mix-up and the other gentleman was given my bed by mistake. Easily rectified and corrected however quite inconvoent for myself and the other guests in the dorm late at night. Otherwise perfect stay, will come again 🙂

The colours and the whole decoration came to me as a pleasant surprise in comparison to how the building looks on the outside.

Lovely staff but there a few facilities. Each room has an en suite which is a great addition but for a 12 person room, the likelihood of it being used is high. The communal bathroom is therefore the only real option and this room boasts only one shower. Over my four night stay, I found the communal bathroom without toilet paper a number of times, and when it was there, it was balanced precariously on top of the holder rather than within it. The rooms are comfortable, clean and serviced each day which was nice. Very, very cold. My 12 person room had only a small space heater to warm the large space.

Would definitely stay again was great all round very clean we went as a family of 14 for a christmas weekend and they staysafe was a great location
