Beautiful old mansion with beautiful renovated guest rooms. The neighborhood has gorgeous old houses as well and felt very safe walking at night. Only complaint would be bed frame is very creaky

Our stay at the wheeler mansion was an amazing experience. Didn’t feel like a hotel, it was more like a get away vacation.

The building is exactly what you want it to be; a big old grandiose mansion. On the negative side however, the parking isn't obvious and it was almost impossible to understand the staff on the phone when I called and asked where to park. They charged me more than what Orbitz listed and when I asked them about it they blamed Orbitz and said they couldn't fix the price. Also, every chair in the building is horribly uncomfortable to sit in.

The restoration of this property is beautiful. So is the furniture. Our host, David, was very friendly and helpful. Our room with a fireplace was awesome. Everything was great. Celebrated 30 year anniversary with my wife.

This is our second time to stay here. It was a great time from start to finish. Great food too! We will be back. We enjoyed learning of the history of the mansion.

Step back into history with all the modern comforts you expect in a luxury property. We loved the spacious living room, the lovely grounds, and the high ceilings throughout the house. It felt like we had they keys to our own mansion for three days! Just steps from the McCormick Place Convention Center, the Wheeler Mansion is a gracious antidote to staying in the soulless mega hotels attached to the convention center.

Maintenance will hopefully be next in line.

It is not worthy to pay that much for the room.(maybe half price would be acceptable )The room was so dark and made me feel not comfortable. And didn’t clean for several days. I would not stay there at all.

I reserved a stay to attend a business function at McCormick Place. Very friendly host for the whole stay. The building inside and out was beautiful. Wonderful breakfast served each morning. This was a gem of a place to stay in. Thank you for the wonderful experience! Highly recommend!

A unique place to stay, just a short walk from the lakefront museums, Grant Park, McCormick Place, etc. We enjoyed a takeout dinner from Lou Malnati’s in the charming back garden during our one night stay.

More of a Airbnb kind of property but historic English property. It was excellent for my purposes to attend a conf at McCormick place. Less than 5 min walk and provided great breakfast with free parking

I chose the Wheeler Mansion because I wanted to experience a Chicago Gilded Age mansion, and from that point of view the stay was a success. It's a beautiful house right in the historic Prairie Avenue district. But I think I got unlucky with the timing. The staff member I saw most of the time said the hotel was normally full during conventions, but during my stay (in August!) it was practically empty. This meant I got a plated breakfast, gentlemen digging up the garden at the back, and a skeleton staff. No coffee-making facilities in the room, which I really missed. Considering I was paying far more than I would have for the nearby Hyatt or Marriott, I was expecting something special and I was disappointed not to get it. The location, on the other hand, was great and I'll be going back to the South Loop. It was so easy to reach the Loop by L or bus--I took the bus back late at night with no problems. It's clearly an affluent residential area with a well-groomed look and it felt safe. It was unbelievably quiet at night, and combined with the very comfortable bed made for great sleep. I'm a tall woman and I had to practically jump to get onto the bed--I thought my mattress was extra-deep but this was deeper. If I'd been older, shorter, or had any kind of hip or leg trouble I'd have needed steps to get up there.

I can’t even begin to explain how amazing this place is. The staff is so friendly. The mansion is absolutely breath taking. My room was beautiful and so clean & tidy. They serve you breakfast at what time you would prefer and you get to eat it in the beautiful dining area, most likely by yourself / your guest. If I am ever in the Chicago area again I will never stay anywhere else. This was hands down the most amazing place I have ever stayed at, period!

The Wheeler Mansion is a wonderful place to stay. Whether it's for business, or for just a quiet relaxing getaway, it's definitely worth a stay.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Only one hiccup with the parking, which the hotel rectified much to our appreciation. Wonderful breakfast the next morning. I would definitely stay here again.

Great, but to far from down town considering I don't know the area. I would stay again. Staff is the greatest. A staff member devoted a lot of time helping us. A great place for peace and quietness or a honeymoon.

I booked a certain room style and got a completely smaller different room.

We love this house...the location to hot spots and the overall feel of this warm home. There were just a few things that if it were mine, I would do differently. The pillows are too hard...they need a mix of both soft and hard. When we arrived we did not have a code so had to call the hotel number to be let in. This seems to be a problem with many but we were let in immediately. Right away we discovered there is no ice or water in the house. We received a small bucket of ice that was brought up from downstairs. I would have an ice machine placed somewhere. In the morning the breakfast was wonderful but no water. The place needs to be dusted and since this is what I do for a living, I was very in tune to the condition of the house. The floors also need to be dusted. The lights outside in the patio area need to be turned on at night. This place has such potential and overall we were very happy with it. The staff was friendly. Also, as my husband always says when we stay somewhere, there needs to be a small welcome basket. It's the little touches that would make this place grand!! I hope they take these recommendations into account. We will be back for sure!!

We waited 25 minutes to be let in the front gate. Once in our room the shower faucet fell off in our hand. Returning from dinner we were again locked out this time by a master lock on the back gate where you park your car. The absolute final straw was our breakfast that was made up of frozen hash browns and a few links. The idea of a bed and breakfast is that you look forward to the breakfast. We could have go through the Mc Donalds drive through had better service and a warm hash brown. I found myself speechless as we left the house. On that note I believe a picture is worth a thousand words. So I have attached a few photo's for anyone who might have their doubts on my review.
