Great spot! Fun to be in a historical home on the water. Obvious maintenance needed which is happening soon but it’s still great. Continental breakfast is excellent.

Lovely restored vintage property with tons of character and a killer view of Lake Mendota! Our Oscar Wilde room was so spacious and we had a corner view from both windows and a separate sitting area plus a surprisingly big bathroom with updated shower and tub and lots of amenities on hand; king bed very comfortable and thick towels a bonus on a cold night! Best part of our morning was the extra special ready made coffee and selection of scones and mini quiche and bread options with local touches (excellent jam and tea choices) and a wonderful setting to enjoy it all in one of several sitting areas, complete with views! Bob was wonderful, despite having had a late nite dealing with a guest issue who forgot key or code, and we appreciated the on-site parking off street ;) We will plan to stay again hopefully sooner vs.later - thanks again! Peaceful beautiful property. The hosts are sweet knowledgeable. The place is very clean, there’s nothing negative there. It was a second stay for us. And there’s plenty to do if you feel adventurous.

This is a terrible place: old and run down, and very expensive. In need of total renovation.

Our stay was awesome, the owners were very accommodating despite a huge screw up by expedia double booking our room. We did not have room at check in despite all the email notifications saying welcome and the check in instructions, etc… the owners worked it out and our stay was awesome! Super huge thanks to them! Shame on expedia…

It is a charming old house. Owners on site were friendly and nice. Only stayed one night. I'm a light sleeper and there is plenty of creakiness to be heard and occasional banging/noise from pipes etc...just be warned. It is after all an old house....but we did have a nice stay. =)

I loved the stay and loved the location. I felt safe, and very comfortable. The place was super clean. The view of the lake was fantastic. I would stay again.

Excellent location for walks, restaurants and the Capital, Mendota House also looks over Lake Mendota (duh). The view is awesome. There is a lovely community space to sit and sip tea. Everywhere you look there is art and plants. The owners are Covid- conscious, which is important. I appreciated their continental breakfast as well.

Love staying at the Mendota Lake House, the location and view can't be beat. The Virginia Woolf room is spacious and has a great view. The king size bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is excellent, really enjoyed dining with the view of the lake. The Christmas decorations made the home even more beautiful. Can't wait for our next stay.

Gracious craftsman building with gorgeous views and gardens! Elegant, comfortable lobby and common areas, beautiful rooms.

It would be PERFECT if there was an acceptable breakfast. We stayed two nights. At each time, before 9 AM, there was no more bread, no more juice,no more sugar, no more eggs… And no staff, to help us. It’s not correct.

Mendota Lake House Inn is a lovely place to spend a quiet few days, surrounded by a beautiful garden, with easy access to much of Madison and a wonderful view of the lake. The owners have managed to combine period charm with high quality artisanal details, resulting in a comfortable place to relax after busy days in the state capital. Here and there are signs of long years of wear, but everything is serviceable and clean.

Lovely stately property with everything as advertised. All logistics were simple and smooth. We will stay again, if we visit Madison, and would love to try a new room each visit just for fun.

Absolutely loved the Walt Whitman room with balcony. Spent most of the time outdoors gazing at the beautiful view of the lake sitting in the treetops. Found our new place for rest and relaxation. Salvatore’s tomato pies is a short walk with exceptional vegan pizza and vegan chocolate cake! We will be back!

Great stay.

One night stay while on a road trip and it has the best features of Madison- especially location. Sadly, we had to leave before warm breakfast but the coffee was excellent (I am picky) and scones were tasty. The Walt Whitman balcony was perfect on a warm and sunny afternoon.

This place is great. Very nice old house with a beautiful view of the lake. The staff were very helpful when I had issues when I first arrived.

Beautiful peaceful place. No person check in due to Covid. But the details of everything were covered in the letter. Very clean and quiet. Would love to go back in the summer. Our lake view was beautiful.
