Excellent location for exploring Helsinki.

Outstanding staff. Clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. Stress-free stay.

Very cool place. Being a prison in its earlier day the theme goes through out the place - even original cells on display. Super friendly employees and breakfast, fika and dinner included. And my room was wonderful- large and well appointed. Perfect location if you are about to catch ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn.

Excellent property. The staff were extremely helpful and responsive. The food was great and was in walking distance of center Helsinki. Property was a prison for over 200 years, and was cool to see these asthetics integrated into the soul of the hotel. Would stay again and highly recommend!

The staf at the desk , Not professionell! I ask How far was the City Center . Hé didn‘t tell me there was a Tram at the door taking us there in a couple of mn . This is something to help people . The Dinner 👎 Not Good Breakfast OK but in the basement , very dark . It was a prison but Not anymorr …. I won‘t Côme back . I réservé à room for 2 Nights next Doors for half the price . Far too expensive . I also ask for hangers for our close , I still wait for the answer. 5 hangers for 2 peoples

This hotel was one of the highlights of our stay! It's historical and used to be a prison and as a result the hotel has a unique architecture and is quite cozy. The breakfast and dinner are included in the cost of your stay as well making it an even better value. If I go back to Helsinki, I will stay here again regardless of the cost.

Great stay in a nice a quiet upscale neighborhood.

Interesting background as a former prison. Less than ideal that sauna was only available in the morning. Breakfast food left something to be desired. Staff was friendly and helpful. Convenient tram stop right out the front door of the hotel.

Interesting decor, very nicely done. Spacious and comfortable rooms.

I absolutely L-O-V-E Katajanokka hotel. This was my second stay. It is my “welcome home to Finland”; my comfortable nest for a couple of days before I embark on my month-long vacation in western and eastern Finland; and my home base for exploring the beautiful city of Helsinki 💙🇫🇮

This hotel is sold on the fact that it's a former prison. Which I thought was neat. Cons: Our room was not cleaned. I had asked for a new kettle is I could make tea and coffee and was told that I would get a new one. When I mentioned to the front desk that I didn't get a new kettle the response was I could've come down to get tea/coffee. That's not the point. I asked for a new kettle and was told I would get one. Why should I get dressed and come down to get it when I can enjoy having it in the privacy of my room? The A/C went out and our room was hot and stuffy, and lack of staffing. Our first night had a complementary evening meal. It tasted like prison food. I was given a voucher for free parking the next time. However, there will not be a next time. I cancelled my future reservations and stayed at an air-b-b. Pros: breakfast was good.

The property needed more staff for its size and number of guests. The rooms needed to be ventilated properly. They were stuffy and very warm, with limited airflow. I had to ask for a fan, which helped some, but definitely not enough. The hotel's common areas are very dark and in need of an upgrade.

Nice and clean hotel with an interesting history and look. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was fresh, varied and delicious. My only comment is that I find it very strange that a hotel in the capital of Finland don’t offer a varied selection of wine. In addition to actually have only like 1,5 bottles available, it was not tempered. Then again: I have never before emptied a whole hotel of wine 🍷

Lovely property and convenient to local attractions.

The house keeper forgot to clean our room and there was no one to clean the room but the reception team was helpful and provided us a spare towels.

Nice and interesting since it’s an old jail. Situated a bit out on Katajanokka, tram just outside or a 10 min walk to downtown. Sauna is only on weekends. Breakfast was good but in the rather dark basement. Not so much nice lobby-areas. The charged price didn’t meet expectations, should be a 40EUR less per night according to the standard offered.

Wonderful Old Prison redone in a modern and cool way. Rooms are great and located in an area that is walking distance to many attractions. Uber was a great way to get around to the further out of the way areas.

A great hotel with an interesting history. Brilliantly placed, Tram #4 stops right outside, Viking ferry is a 5 minute walk, great if you're arriving from or travelling in to Tallnn. City centre is an easy walk too. Great buffet breakfast

The hotel is in walkable distance to the port ( about a 15 min walk). It is in a quite part of town, there is a trolley right in front for Helsinki transport ( if you are aware of how to use it). Front desk staff very helpful and friendly
