Needs work and can be a good place to stay once improvements are made, and the owner is clearly working on that
Clean. The kitchen has almost everything that is needed (but instead of multiple chocolate sweets all over the apartment (including the bathroom) it would be better to have some salt and sugar in the kitchen, because then you buy a half-kilo of salt and what do you do with it after that?). There are two supermarkets just around the corner (you can basically see them out of the kitchen window), Aldi and Edeka. There is a bus stop around another corner where bus line 12 (that runs once per hour) takes you to downtown Aachen in about 30 minutes. There was also a new Wi-Fi router although the Booking description had said the accommodation didn't have internet (and I overlooked that while booking), so I had been mentally prepared to live with my phone's hotspot for several days. So it was a pleasant surprise. It's clear the owner is gradually working on making this a better-equipped accommodation.
There was a major problem — the heating elements in the bedroom were nonfunctioning. In a bid to make the accommodation fresh-smelling for arrival of guests, windows had been left open and it was freezing. I didn't believe the heating elements in the living room and kitchen were enough to heat the whole apartment, so I had to take the mattress with linens off one of the beds, close the bedroom off, bring the mattress to the living room, and prop it on the sofa and the ottoman footstool available there (see pic). The whole arrangement was not exactly horizontal and was somewhat droopy but it beat attempting to sleep in freezing conditions. With heating elements in the kitchen and (now the only) room turned way up, the temperature got to normal levels some time around 3 in the morning. I don't like inviting anyone to fix things in my accommodation while me and my stuff are there, so I didn't notify the owner, and overall I didn't see the point ecologically in wasting resources to heat that much space just for me, so I was happy with the reduced spce but NOT happy with an inconvenient sleeping situation. Like I said, I can see that this is a new accommodation that the owner is gradually trying to equip better. I suggest he rethinks the apartment conceptually, at least for winter months. If there is just one chair in the kitchen (and frankly not much room for additional chairs), this means the place can reasonably accommodate only two people and there is no need for a separate living room with a corner sofa easily big enough for a small college group to have a party. And people like watching TV in bed, while here, beds are in the bedroom and the TV is in the living room. This would be a perfectly workable hotel-room-like accommodation if what is now the living room was it — with the beds, a wardrobe, a desk, and the TV stand. If the owner doesn't know what to do with the sofa, it can live in what is now the bedroom.
