Just a glorified guest house. Most of the hotel had been shut down for the winter season but because of the liverpool v newcastle game, they reopened ...rooms smelt fusty and damp and were freezing cold. Had to ask staff for help getting it warm...still wasnt warm the next morning. Very poor selection of hot food and without transport nothing else really nearby to try.

First time stay and was slightly disappointed to be honest. The staff were friendly but it felt like dining was in the reception area and the menu was a little sad. I decided to get a takeaway from Ocean Road which was lovely. The room was tired and cold, no bottle of water, no hairdryer. Breakfast was also disappointing and the coffee was literally undrinkable. The location is good and this hotel could be lovely but it’s dated and I’m sorry to say I won’t be staying again.

Friendly, attentive efficient staff at all levels. Spacious comfortable room with great river/sea view. Food good. First time at this hotel and definite stay here next time stopping over in the area

In many ways our stay was fine. The location is good with sweeping harbour and sea views. Staff were helpful, the room was clean, though slightly tired given the age of the hotel (I remember it being built years ago). On this basis we would go back. However we would not go back because of the noisy functions and where they are held. Our room was upstairs on a bedroom wing. On the Friday night we discovered - heard - a disco starting up around 18:30 right at the end of the bedrooms corridor! It was loud, noisy, lots of people shouting up and down the corridor, coming and going. The hotel will say they warn people it might be a bit noisy. From their email I guessed this would be in the lobby and restaurant. Not a problem. They don’t tell you it’s where the bedrooms are. We asked about this and the party a few doors down from us was supposed to end about 23:30. After 2 hours of loud music and noise, by 21:00 we had had enough and just left the place - checked out and drove home instead. To the hotel: be honest about the noise, don’t offer to change rooms when we are leaving, rather than when raising it earlier. We will jot be back. If you want to be at a disco this is the place, otherwise avoid it, especially at a weekend

Lovely venue and location of hotel, the only thing we were not particularly impressed with the food breakfast was nice but evening meal left a lot to be desired which was a shame, only complaint 😊xx

A family visit, regular client. Friendly, comfortable, staff great. A cross between a guest house and a hotel.fabulous setting.
Down side, very cold conservatory dining room.

Pros:
The hotel itself is in a brilliant location with fantastic views.
The staff really make this place, they are very friendly and helpful.
The room we stayed in was very big, so we had lots of room to move around
Cons:
Beds were really uncomfortable
Breakfast was absolutely chaos, the poor staff were absolutely run off their feet trying to get everything sorted. I think it had to do with that breakfast ended at 9:15 so there was a giant rush from everyone and I think there had been a wedding or party the night before so it was so busy and hard for the staff to keep up as there seemed so few of them for so many numbers. We ended up going elsewhere to get another breakfast.
The rooms seem a bit tired although they were very clean, it just felt a bit sad and little details like the TV being in a weird place on the wall when you sit in bed.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and his place could be absolutely fantastic with just a few changes.

Friendly and Stress free visit it lovely breakfast and Evening meal.
3.0
Reasonable hotel, the evening meal food was excellent & sensibly priced but the breakfast needs addressing. The bar area seating was fully reserved for the locals for the entertained, which when you're paying near to £100.00 a night to stay is not acceptable. The rooms are reasonably spacious, but need to be updated to bring the furnishings & decor into the 1970s.

Our regular hotel when visiting family, it feels like a family. The views are stunning, not a “plush” hotel, but comfortable, friendly and we would recommend it.

Accidental date selection booking and inability to change dates meant unable to stay mainly due to uk.hotels.com website being impossible to change dates

My partner and I were in the Admiral Collingwood penthouse and like all penthouse accommodation this did not disappoint absolutely wonderfully positioned. Sit out on the balcony to the east to watch the sun come up and reset at the end of the day by watching the sun set in the west.

Both nights there was loud music until late. Really not. Pleasant stay.

Busy Hotel in a nice area near the beach.
4.0
Excellent location, with River and Sea views.
Easy access to a fab sandy beach and promenade.
Probably the best hotel in South Shields.
Sunday lunch great value and excellent portions.
Staff a little abrupt at check-in - we arrived early after a long journey and were told to return at the correct time.
Room a little tired - Bath hot tap continually running - not fixed during stay!
Had to request soap for the room

I love this place and have stayed here many times. A wonderful location with views out to sea.
Minor issues with hoovering of carpet (I think it was just missed) because otherwise spotless; breakfast items start to run thin towards the end of the breakfast time (such as decent scrambled eggs and fresh fruit and bakery) It should be the same from start to finish. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
A very special place for me and my family.

Paid for an executive room with a view and it did have amazing views. Shower seemed to change temperature all the time though. No complaints about the room other than that, plenty of seating.
Was a bit disappointed in the breakfast. The fresh fruit was past its best and been sitting out too long and the few pastries there were had been burnt.
The cooked breakfast was ok although had tinned tomatoes (which I hate) rather than fresh. Have to order fried eggs separately which is always a pain but they were nice when they eventually came. Having stayed here twice before I thought breakfast wasn’t as good as in the past.
We come for the location but feel the prices are going up a bit too much now so only stayed the 1 night this time.
Staff were friendly.

We booked one of the 3 penthouse suites available. Worth the extra for a bigger room and 2 balconies, meaning you could basically get the sun most of the day (if you're lucky enough to get sunny days like we did) Like other replies, there is definite room for improvement in the hotel. Some things definitely need an upgrade, but nothing that spoiled our stay. Great service from lovely staff also.

Great stay ticked all the boxes, great location.

The hotel staff were very welcoming and accommodating , the rooms were adequate but could do with a refresh, in parts were looking very unkempt especially the dining area.

I booked and paid for a family suite because it was advertised as having a double bed along with a double sofa bed. They then had the cheek to charge me an extra £30.00 for the use of the sofa bed. This has never happened at any other hotel. I won;t be going there again.

Right on the beach. A bit of an older property but the location was great.

Hotel feels very dated, soulless and a bit beige/bleak. My room was big but empty and just 2 hard straight backed chairs to sit, mattress thinish and not comfortable.... a bit miserable. The bed sidelights had no bulbs in and even though I was there 5 nights did not get replaced, just said 'they were on order' (I could've nipped to B&Q myself quicker), had to make do with stark main lights. I had breakfast once but wasnt impressed, the scrambled egg put me off as you could slice it and it had big grey bits in it, didnt go back again and found my own breakfast. The only redeeming feature is that its on the beach, this could be a wonderful hotel but sadly I wont be back and its definitely not worth the nightly rate.

Hotel was perfect location for what we needed.
All staff were friendly and helpful
6.0
Unique because its on the beach and from the room we had it was very enjoyable watching the shipping in and out of the Tyne.
Breakfast service was a bit chaotic generally. Not acceptable to run out of pastries and croissants half way through breakfast service on two mornings. Decaf coffee only available in powder form is not good enough in this day and age.
Watered down squash in tumblers, served to Wedding guests, as the alternative to alcohol, is far from acceptable.
