Light of Zanzibar Hotel is located just a 2-5 minutes walk from the stunning Nungwi Beach (depending if you go through the town or straight to the beach). It has everything you might need, comfortable beds, hot water, mosquito nets and AC. There is a fridge outside your room which you share with the two other rooms on your floor to keep your water nice and cold. Paul and all the other staff are absolutely wonderful, kind and very helpful, just ask if you need anything, they will definitely do all they can to help you out. The served breakfast is always delicious, it varies a little every day so you never eat the same thing. Once we had to take our breakfast an hour early and everyone was so nice that we left with satisfied stomachs. If were ever back to Zanzibar, we’ll stay here again!

The hotel is very clean, quiet and peaceful. Very close to the beach (2 minutes walking), where you can find many restaurants. Everyday they serve different and fresh breakfast. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Especially Paul that went above and beyond, also showing me around, giving me useful advices and making sure my stay was great everyday. I will be coming back again!

The local staff, especially the Masai Paul are the jewel of this hotel. Without him and the others the rating for this Hotel would be max. 5. He does everything day and night in order to accommodate the guests and has a very warm hearted personality. Also the kitchen staff and security always have a smile on their face. Location was nice in the middle of Nungwi, short walk to the beach and easy to reach east and west coast

1. My room had no window panels which makes it loud in the night when the Muezzin is calling for prayer. It’s a known problem as other guests mentioned, but the management seems not to take care of it. 2. Behavior of the management towards their staff. Family of the foreign owner was at the place and did not treat the staff with appreciation or even a smile e.g. when they get served their three meals during the day. Unlike in other hotels I did not see the management doing a handshake, but rather let the staff even buy them cigarettes every day. 3. Uncomfortable beds. I slept in a lot of beds, but in these I could t sleep for some reason. 4. Broken toilet seat. Was uncomfortable to use and I guess known to the management. 5. Featured as sustainable accommodation, but use of small water bottles instead of refill options like in other hotels. Since windows are missing, AC can't be effective / waste of energy. No information/tipps regarding environmental behavior e.g. turning of AC during day. Can’t really understand the overall good reviews except if it’s for the African staff.

Vi alla trivdes bra på hotellet. Mycket prisvärt, nära till allt ,god frukost och en härlig personal speciellt Paul som hjälpte oss med allt från att beställa dagsturer till bra priser för shopping. Vi hade mycket trevliga konversationer med honom. Bra wifi nätverk och sköna sängar. Lite spartanskt men så värt pengarna.

The staff were friendly. The receptionist was excellent and always willing to help and provide answers to challenges experienced.

The room allocated to us had no window panes on two of the windows. They knew this but still allocated the room. On booking, they didn't inform us that they only accept cash. They don't accept bank cards. There were instances when there was no water particularly in the morning. They only serve breakfast and have no option for lunch or supper.

Paul was a great receptionist and had no problems communicating in English! So very helpful and very hard to come by in Zanzibar. The great location and low cost were bonuses as well.

While I understand the booking.com listing said I would pay at the property - I would have preferred to pay with a card instead of cash. Most if not all restaurants allow for card payments in Zanzibar (this adds a 5% transaction fee, FYI). For most tourists, even those from South Africa - cards are preferred (more vendors have gone cashless in recent years) to not have to carry around large amounts of cash as it isn't safe to do so. The AC was not effective, and the windows were not very airtight which impacted the ability for the AC to do it's job. The ac was also placed too close to the wall and the air blew into the curtains instead of cooling the room. The bathroom door also didn't latch and this allowed for hot humid air to enter the room while a was on. The wifi was not ideal - it would work sometime and not others. Parking was also not "In the compound". This was outside of the property and the parking area was not clear of rubble from other construction - please make sure to provide for secure parking or at least and area where a rental won't be damaged from rocks and concrete under the wheels.

Izba bola naozaj čistá,veľmi pohodlné matrace a nechýbal ani úložný priestor. Dôležitá bola pre nás klimatizácia,ktorá bola plne funkčná. Kúpeľňa veľmi dobrá, voda mala silný prúd,mydlo aj uteráky boli zabezpečené. Nechýbal ani fén na vlasy. Personál bol veľmi milý a ochotný. V deň skorého výletu nám dopredu prichystali sýte raňajky. Nakoľko sme odlietali až večer, mohli sme si nechať veci v hoteli kým sme boli posledný deň ešte na pláži. Pláž je veľmi blízko, zároveň v tichej lokalite. Cca 5 min.
