Craig's Royal Hotel is a lovely old building with a lot of history. I particularly enjoyed the old fashion lift which I've never seen outside of old movies. The staff were wonderful, the snack bar being open late is a life saver for musicians or anyone who is going to be out late, it's not quite like getting a full meal but at least it's some nice, hot food. My room was small but cozy, perfect for what I needed. My only issues were that the cord on the kettle was barely long enough to reach the plug from the table that it was sitting on and there were some cobwebs on the side of the wardrobe facing the bathroom door, a very small amount in a spot that would be easy to miss when dusting so it wasn't worth complaining about and I'd say that most guests probably wouldn't even have noticed. I'm only mentioning it here because a review does call for such things. But that's really my only criticism, everything else was great. Maybe they could include breakfast in the price of the stay, but that's not a big deal as the breakfast menu is fairly reasonably priced anyway.

Although we enjoyed our stay and the reception staff were very helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed the spa bath, there were issues,there was dust throughout the property,carpets in the main area were actually threadbare! and I don’t think the mattress had been changed since Prince Albert stayed there since it sagged badly in the middle! Such a shame as overall it’s a lovely hotel.

Had to find a suitable hotel for a weekend speaking engagement in Ballarat. Hotel is ageing for sure but was ok. Car park entry is very difficult and staff were all confused as to how to enter. I was locked out on Saturday night after 10pm. Had to exit through roller door and walk all the way to front of hotel to access. Crazy! Also the biggest issue was music playing all the time... all night. No one knew anything about it. Shocking and very disruptive. Staff seemed untrained and very young to be managing a hotel. Same guy was on front desk and making coffee for brekky. No water at the table.. simple things missing. Eggs overcooked.. bacon dry and not cooked fresh...wouldn't recommend staying here. Such a shame for an iconic place.

Beautiful building but Rooms need updating, no shower door (water went everywhere), toilet seat all cracked, central heating / aircon (poor), window didn’t open in bathroom, fridge very unpractical (no freezer), pack your own pillow if you need any substance (so thin).

Amazing building. Bits were tired but generally in keeping with the ambience. Location was good. Bed was comfy.
Room was very dusty but I’m hoping that was more to do with the old building. Staff we encountered were efficient but a bit unfriendly and abrupt. Limited parking is available but only was told on check out there was a charge .

Reception was friendly and staff helpful. The room was average, but the problem was the noise. We really couldn’t sleep properly. The condenser unit 1 meter away from our window was very noisy. The dB reading was 47 on average through the night (I’m a past sound engineer and care about that kind of stuff).

At the completion of our main course they ignored our table) even though the room was about one-third occupied) for about half an hour to remove our plates and for us to request the dessert menu. Both staff were not cognisant of the wishes of the diners at all tables.
They need better training in Hospitality.

I was first in Ballarat at Teacher’s College in the early 60’s. The hotel was iconic then. Loved my stay. The food was very good, too. Will be back in the future.

Really loved the heritage style of this hotel, the old fashioned lift added authentic charm to the venue.

Lovely property. Bathroom needs a fan or some fresh air because it was a bit musty. I know we’re unusual, but it was very warm so thank goodness for the ability to open the window (something you can’t do in most hotels!). Food in the restaurant quite good and service kind and attentive. Had to search for a dropped AirPod and discovered that under the bed had not been vacuumed in a long time. It would be a real challenge in maintaining this property - and it’s charming!

The architecture and decor of Craig’s is simply fabulous. However fake plants and floral displays really cheapen the look. The room was less than expected - booked 12 months in advance and I poured over the supplied photos and description to make my selection.
Overall a pleasant stay but I would not return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Craig’s Royal Hotel. The accommodation was lovely and comfortable, the food in the restaurant was delicious and generous, and all the staff were so kind and obliging, nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend Craig’s Royal Hotel and would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the management and staff who made our stay enjoyable and memorable.

1- No staff i the bar area. Several people including me awaitimg 10 - 15 minutes to find a staff member to assist Some people walked off and up the road
2- I spilt hot chocolate all over the table. As i went ti get help from the 3 staff members in the morning doing ver little. No one seemed interested in the assistance nor cared to ask could they help. I got rags and cleaning rags to mop up and clean up the mess. This is very poor
After i had cleaned as much as i could I stopped a staff member bringing a coffee in for someone and let them know that i did my best but its still amess.
I beleived that until i said something no one cared at all!!!!!!!!!
The parking is bad having to park in the street. You should look for a area that is set aside for your patrons

Beautiful hotel, full of atmosphere, it’s like stepping back in time, light fittings are especially beautiful, we stayed for two nights and would recommend Craig’s royal hotel.
