PRO: Many nice features to the hotel, the best for us was the exceptional meals and services we had. We stayed three nights and had the traditional Japanese multi-course meal called kaiseki. Absolutely delicious! A memorable experience. We had a nice bright large room with sliding doors to the balcony with a spa. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Room had snacks, coffee maker, Tea and a refrigerator full of juices that were complementary. Outside our room was a table with cookies and refrigerator full of ice cream.

CON: The room needs a couch or two comfortable relaxing chairs and a side table. Room did have a soft bench but wasn't for relaxing with a coffee. There was no main area in the hotel to relax in a comfortable chair either. They had benches to sit on but not to relax. You will be taking a taxi or bus to the city center but that was fine with us.

An amazing conversion of a very old property which has retained lots of character but with all modern conveniences. Every detail was considered and the food was fantastic. It was all fresh local produce with wonderful combinations of flavours, textures and presentation.

Matsumoto Jujo was worth every penny. The room was spacious, beds were like sleeping on clouds, tons of free amenities, multi course meal for dinner and breakfast, private onsen and so many books spread throughout the hotel including in the rooms and hallways (all available for purchase). There was even a personalized welcome note in our room.

beautiful meals, log fire in the dining room, very nicely appointed room with comfy beds and the private hinoki bath in the balcony was very nice. the children’s area is very impressive.

- If you don’t have your own car, transport is not very convenient. There are no more than 2 buses per hour to Matsumoto Station which is about 1/2h ride. - Inflexible meal times. better book your breakfast and dinner slots far in advance so you get the times convenient for you. - there are no amenities in the (very small) public bathhouse. No soaps and shampoos in the shower area. I think they expect you to bring fr your own room. there is no vanity or hairdryer etc. maybe because there are private baths in every room, they don’t expect people to use the public bath?
