Fabulous location overlooking the sea. Great pool for swimming every day. Comfortable and spacious home well equipped. Steep walk to seafront and a car essential but a great location to explore the west of the island, enjoy levadas and only about 30 minutes drive to Funchal. Restaurants along seafront good value and choice. Whale watching available too and a useful supermarket. Park on road as car park a pretty scary experience. Free parking beside cliffs at Eastern end of seafront. Only problem we had was no one there upon arrival. No phone or satellite signal so had to get help from local hotel. Eventually someone arrived and the rest of the stay was perfect. Watch out for mosquitoes though.

Kids loved the heated pool as did both my wife & I. Place was spacious & clean. Joao was efficient in his communication. Highly recommended - 5 star!

This is the best beach on Madeira and this villa is so close - there is a very challenging walk to it but we managed it with a double buggy and in about 15/20mins so it's doable! As for the sunset AND sunrise - incredible! The only downside was that the sea seemed warmer than the pool so we only used the pool on super hot days and instead chose to go to the beach. Would definitely come back here!

Beautiful property, great location. Never met Joao, communicated exclusively via VRBO app. Only suggestion would be some insect screens for the bedroom doors. Have to choose between stuffy room or mosquito attack.

Lovely house, lovely surroundings and lovely swimming pool

Had a wonderful experience staying in the villa for one week. The views from the house and the terrace even better than the photos suggest, great pool, convenient layout of the house and outdoor areas, and has everything that you might need for your stay. This was our second (and finally successful) attempt to visit Madeira, with first being cancelled due to covid, and we initially planned to stay at a hotel. So glad we did not! Much better way to have a truly Madeiran experience! The communication with the host was also great, so nothing to fault at all! The car is necessary as others mentioned, but we planned to have a car anyways to travel around the island. Thank you for the chance to stay in your wonderful house!

Unser Urlaub war im Januar: Mietwagen benötigt, Alleinlage mit Bananenpflanzen auf den Nachbargrundstücken, Riesiger Pool und wirklich beheizt bis zu 24 Grad im Januar, schnelles zuverlässiges Internet, Im Fernsehen nur RTL, aber HDMI Anschluss für unseren Fire TV Stick zum Streamen, Putzfrau und Bettwäsche ein mal pro Woche und Poolreiniger, Heizen mit einem elektrischen mobilen Heizkörper, bei Sonnenschein nicht nötig, da große Fensterflächen nach Südwesten, Nordostschlafzimmer im Winter klamm. Super Service!!! Wir hatten einen defekten Sicherungsautomaten, Vermieter hat sofort reagiert und Elektriker war in 30 Minuten vor Ort. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Die Wohnung bietet einen herrlichen Blick auf das Meer und ist sehr ansprechend eingerichtet. Auch im Dezember konnten wir ein paar mal den Pool nutzen. Die nächste Ortschaft ist mind. 100 Höhenmeter bzw. mehrere Kilometer mit dem Auto entfernt.

We had a lovely time staying at this wonderful property. It was private, quiet and scenic. The villa is homely and certainly well equipped, it had everything that we needed including a superb swimming pool and outdoor BBQ area. The location was just perfect and has fantastic views and some perfect sunsets. A great ending to a sour year and a perfect start to a new optimistic one.

We've just returned from a wonderful week in Calheta. The entire experience from start to finish couldn't have been better. From communication with Joao before travel to the accommodation itself, it has been wonderful. The villa is in a beautiful location with wonderful views over the sea and the pool was a massive hit with our son. As other reviewers have said a car is essential even if you intend to spend most of your time by the pool. I would highly recommend staying at this property.

Lovely, clean villa. Suited our family with three teenagers. It had an underrated location description we felt; we loved the proximity to the fabulous beach at Calheta with it’s very inexpensive sun loungers/parasols. Easy to access the whole of the island but peaceful and a welcome respite from the hassle of Funchal. Steps up to the villa are steep as described, not a problem for us but could be tricky for those with poor knees. Sunsets are glorious from the villa, pool is bigger than the pictures suggest and lovely and deep. Joao and his sister in law were completely welcoming and very helpful when we had questions. There were some unexpected touches that made our trip easier including swim towels and cooking herbs/oils etc. We’d undoubtedly stay again for our next visit to Madeira.

I cannot recommend Joao or villa highly enough! Having recently had a not so good experience with a villa rental elsewhere, it was so refreshing to have a really good booking experience, followed by swift, informative and timely communication with Joao. Having followed the pictorial route planner supplied by the owner, we found the villa to be above expectation, and were surprised and delighted to have a welcoming tour. The facilities the villa provided were all you could need, and the one very small issue we encountered was dealt with swiftly and without any fuss. The views from this location are stunning and we found ourselves every day just stood by the pool looking out over the sea view. The pool is a really good size and a perfect way to spend the day, sun drenched from mid morning to early evening. The three bedrooms are a really good size, with ample storage and hanging space and comfortable beds. With 3 toilets (one outside) you should never get caught short. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need. There is a very good supermarket in the local town which is about a 10 minute car ride away. A car is essential here, and good mobility as the villa is up quite a few steps from the gated driveway. Overall we were delighted with our stay here and would not hesitate to book again!

This was the best holiday place we have been too. Joao, the host was so welcoming and helpful. The house is in the most beautiful location, conveniently located 10 min drive from Calheta which has a great supermarket and beautiful beach. Everything in the house was comfortable, with all the things you needed to cook and great kitchen facilities. The pool was clean and warm, giving out on beautiful views over the ocean.We can only highly recommend Joao’s house and we hope we can come back soon.

The villa is bigger than the pictures suggest. The views over the sea are lovely and the villa is very quiet and not overlooked. There are large patio doors to 2 sides of the lounge area to enjoy the views from. The road outside is quite steep which is typical of the surrounding area. A car is essential for a holiday at this villa. The pool is a good size with wide steps at the shallow end, the water is not hot just less bitingly cold compared to many villas in Spain and Italy we have recent experience of. There are ample loungers around the pool. The villa is easy to find, just do the route on Google Streetview first from the owners instructions, there are a few extra tunnels near the end of the route not actually in the instructions, which are otherwise very good.There are many steps up to the villa, they are good regular steps but you must have sufficient mobility to cope with these. Inside the villa every room is a good size. The bedrooms are 3 genuine double sized bedrooms with good storage provision. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at the villa. There is both a fridge and good sized freezer and everything seemed to work well. Local supermarket was good and a lot of people spoke good English. The laundry facilities are in a nice outhouse BUT require climbing a set of steps at the side of the property which do not have a handrail and would not suit anyone who tends to suffer vertigo like my wife, so I got to drive the washing machine on this holiday. We have never gone back to the same villa for a holiday a 2nd time, but we have already booked for next year so impressed were we with both the villa and Madeira. Help is quickly available if you have any problem with anything in the villa.

We really enjoyed our stay here - the property is in an excellent location and the floor to ceiling windows meant we could enjoy the fabulous views even when the weather wasn't particularly great as was true for our stay. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and were very responsive in sorting out the minor problems we encountered during our stay.

We've just returned from a fantastic week in Calheta. We arrived late at night & struggled to find the place but the owners very kindly came out to meet us so we could follow them there. This villa is located in the most beautiful area, perfect for our needs - totally peaceful and quiet, close to levada walks and good base for seeing the west and northern parts of the island. The highlight has to be the heated pool with amazing views over the ocean below. A car is essential to explore this beautiful part of the island. It is possible to walk to the marina but only if prepared to walk down a very steep footpath, which we did on several occasions! You might prefer to taxi back in the evening. A couple of lovely restaurants overlooking marina. The villa itself is lovely, perhaps a little tired (why I think 4 rather than 5 stars). We had a slight issue with the drains but the owners dealt with it immediately so can't fault that! Thank you! Overall, this has been a wonderful holiday and I wouldn't hesitate in returning. We were very sorry to leave.

We stayed here over the Christmas holidays. We had a great time the villa was very comfortable and well equipped and the owner was very friendly and helpful. The pictures of the view from the pool do not do justice to how beautiful this setting is. It is an amazing place to sit and enjoy meals with the family by the pool looking out to the ocean. I stayed with my children who are 6 and 8 and they also thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The pool was great and as this is accessed from the lounge it is very easy to supervise the children at all times. If you are considering a family holiday to Madeira I would recommend this villa, the location was also great with the supermarket, beach and restaurants very close by in Calheta. However I would say a car is necessary. We had a great holiday and are already thinking about when we can return.

We stayed here for a week in October with our 4 young children and we had a fantastic holiday. It is in a really good spot that is quiet and has fantastic views of the coast at Calheta. The villa is well maintained and well equipped with some new appliances. The kids really enjoyed the pool and were in and out of it several times most days. We would recommend this villa and would definitely return.

What can I say? This is a very nice holiday villawith beautiful view in a perfect quiet location. The swimming pool and the outside areas are the best you can get. The house is stocked with everything imaginable you could need, even a little too much to my opinion (this you'll find out once you start looking around and especially when you are trying to find the spot back where it belongs :-) ) The owners are extremely helpful, they even insisted in helping to carry our luggage up the stairs (from the garage). Although we were 100 % happy with our rental , I would like to point out something to the owners to make it 110 % in the future. I don't think a large bed of 150cm is a large bed anymore nowadays. I do know that this size was common in Portugal (and I guess Madeira too) for a large bed, but who of the foreigners still sleeps in a bed of this size? Something to consider, that's all. We, five grown-ups, stayed the last two weeks of 2013 in this wonderful villa above the Calheta town centre. The house is spacious; the five of us had ample space both inside and outside the house, either by the pool, heated and big enough for swimming, or in the barbeque “corner”. The views are just stunning and enjoyed at the best by the pool whilst listening to the birdsong and seeing the sun set over the Atlantic. The entrance to the house is framed by a well-kept garden. The outside areas as well as inside the villa are tidy, clean and well equipped. The wireless internet connection worked fine all the time. The garage is a bonus; a cool car even on the sunniest days! The street is quiet as it has its dead-end shortly beyond the house. The owners act promptly on inquiries, either directly or with the help of the neighbouring Rosa. A nice walk down to the seashore by Calheta where one finds amenities and restaurants, for the return we recommend taxi which is very reasonably priced and readily available. To get around we definitely recommend a car. We all enjoyed our stay in “Villa Calheta” immensely and have no problem in recommending it to anyone that is looking for a spacious, comfortable and trouble-free accommodation in Madeira.

Just back from a lovely week's holiday in Madeira - our first visit. The villa is an easy 40 minute drive from Funchal so great for day trips back to the capital. We went three times. Calheta has the only sandy beach (I think) in Madeira so great for children. There is a good supermarket and a few nice restaurants. New Era on the sea front overlooking the harbour was very good as was the pizzeria next door. You can also go on whale and dolphin watching trips from here though we didn't do that. The villa is set in a quiet location so we got a good sleep! The accommodation is all on one level, ideal if you have a young child like us. The three bedrooms are all a good size (doubles), and two have patio doors. One is en-suite. The family bathroom is also a good size. The living area is spacious and the open-plan kitchen is well-equipped with everything you are likely to need. The highlight, though, is the pool along with the sea view! Safe for children and big enough for a swim. There are plenty of loungers and it's a nice place to sit out with a glass of wine in the evening. All in all, a great place to stay!

We had 2 lovely weeks in this villa. The best thing we found was the amazing ocean view. It was so nice to look out at the sea and hills. The outside space was so nice with lovely outdoor furniture, sun loungers etc. The pool was amazing. It is such a nice size and with great sea views. Its actually nicer than the pictures on the website. The kitchen was great and had everything you could need. The dining room and living room were perfect too except we didn't sit indoors at all because the weather was so nice. We didn't find the bed to be comfortable. Also, there was a funny smell coming from the water in the ensuite bathroom. This wasn't a big deal but is the reason it didn't get 5 stars. Also, just to note the driveway is a bit difficult to get up if you are not used to driving on hills!!! Its not a long driveway but it is steep. There is a supermarket, beach and restaurants a five minute drive away in Calhetta. There is a great Italian restaurant along the marina which makes fabulous ice cream as well as dinners. tip: Use the binoculars in the villa to see the dolphins which surf in front of some of the boats in the bay!

Hi, I really couldn't recommend this apartment more highly. All the facilities and comfort you could want are here - lots of space, all modern facilities such as Wi Fi, Surround sound TV and Cinema set-up, fully fitted kitchen etc, plus a lovely heated pool, south west facing terrace, and incredible views of the Atlantic.. Truly excellent. We also had very helpful advice and a friendly welcome for Ana and Jana : ) A great apartment on a great part of this special island Thank you!!

A wonderful villa with everything you could possibly want or need. From the moment we arrived Ana and her family made us feel incredibly welcome, even coming to collect us from a nearby bar when we got lost on our way from the airport. The villa itself is perfect - very roomy and spacious and very well equipped. The laundry room and outdoor barbecue are added bonuses and we spent many a happy evening outdoors watching the sun go down with a glass of Madeira . The villa offers wonderful views over the never-ending sea and the pool is fabulous - as you can see from the photos it's practically an infinity pool and wonderful to swim in as the sun beats down. The villa was very clean, and there are bars, restaurants and a well-stocked supermarket about a ten minute drive away - allow a good hour to get to Funchal if you're not used to the roads. All in all, a great base for exploring Madeira and relaxing - thanks Ana for a wonderful holiday, we hope one day to return.
