This was our second stay at "Life on a Sandbar". Was excellent both times. Property is beautiful, warm and welcoming. Location on the beach is perfect. The host was very accommodating and easily accessible. I would give this place 100 stars if I could.

Jimmy's place was all you could ask for: very clean, comfortable, quiet and well equipped. We immediately felt at home there. A great base for visiting the Norfolk area. Jimmy is a gracious host who provided everything we needed for a great stay.

I booked my vacation here to get some serious rest, and it worked out perfectly. The property was lovely and I instantly felt comfortable there, the neighborhood was indeed very quiet, and it was so convenient being so close to the beach. Just about every morning I walked on the beach and every afternoon I napped in the hammock. Jimmy also made sure to give me lots of good information about local places to eat or visit, or a heads up if anything interesting was passing by.

Great beachfront property! Very light and airy and spacious. The decor is perfect for a beach house and adds to the experience. Will definitely stay again if we're back in the area!

Family of 4 with young boys stayed in early August. The house was nice and had everything needed. Walking to the beach was very convenient as we didn’t have to pack the kids and stuff into the car each time. Jimmy was great from check in to a accidental lockout situation during our stay. Overall it was good.

This place is a true gem! The location is perfect and the house is great! Fully stocked with everything you could ever need and more. Although we never met jimmy personally, he kept us informed of the comings and goings of the naval ships and subs. Something we truly appreciated! The beach is beautiful and such a quiet neighborhood. Being able to look at that view every morning and having beautiful sunsets every night was magical. If you are looking for the perfect location, awesome house and peaceful quiet relaxation, Life on the sandbar is for you! I only wish we were able to stay longer!

First I want to say how fantastic a host Jimmy is! He was so attentive and had almost everything you could need Including BEACH TOYS for kids. I can't stress enough how easy it was to stay at this property, it was clean and inviting and I appreciated the details Jimmy took from the extra cleaning suplies to the recommendations for activities and food in the area. The house is bigger then what the pictures make it out to be. My family fit comfortably here and we all had our own space. I love that it is conveniently located on the beach making it easy to get the kids in and out of the water. The Sun room was beautiful 😍 There were some storms during our stay and the sunroom was perfect for reading and drinking coffee while watching the rain. Overall my husband boys and I all agree that this was a perfect vacation spot. I would highly recommend to anyone!

The house is extremely clean and well stocked for a family stay. The location is great. Walking out the back doors onto the beach can’t be beat. The home owners is super friendly.

This property was absolutely perfect! It spotless and stocked with anything we could have wanted. Clearly everything was done with the guests in mind. The decor was beautiful and relaxing, the beach couldn’t have been closer, and Jimmy was a great host. Highly recommend!!

We returned to this beach house 4 years after our first stay, and it was just as enjoyable the second time around! Great location, comfortable clean and well stocked house, owner communicates very well, and the beach is perfect for younger children. We definitely plan to come back a 3rd time!

Even though the weather did not cooperate, we enjoyed our stay at this property. Jimmy was so helpful in communication and the house provided all the comforts we needed. It felt completely private even next to other houses. Stunning sunrises and sunsets even with the stormy weather.

We returned to this place because we liked it so much the first time, and we weren’t disappointed. The house is very clean, comfortable and well appointed, and in a fantastic location. Jimmy is a marvelous host. He went above and beyond, pointing out things and places of interest. Of all the VRBO rentals we’ve done, this is tops. Great place, great host.

The owner, Jimmy, took care of us before, during, and after our stay. He was very responsive and genuinely cared that we have a pleasant stay. The bungalow was very neat, clean and well stocked. The online pictures are accurate but they hardly come close to conveying what a wonderful little gem this place really is. Thank you, Jimmy for helping to make our vacation carefree and enjoyable!

The house has a scuff or two but everything was clean and well maintained. The location couldn’t have been any better. I was able to walk out the back door with my cup of coffee and walk directly out to the beach. I was able to unplug and catch up with my friends from the area. My husband and I can’t wait to come back. We will definitely stay here again!

After a busy tax season, my family stayed at Life on a Sandbar where I was able to get some much needed rest and relaxation. The cottage is so nice with big windows and warm, beachy colored walls and décor. Jimmy was a most attentive host, making sure we got into the house okay and that everything was alright. The view from the back deck of the Bay, the ships coming in, and the sun setting is spectacular. A beach access is right next to the property. My son is moving to the area and went apartment hunting each day. He noted access to Hampton, Newport News, and downtown Norfolk are all very convenient too, although I was perfectly fine staying at the cottage the entire weekend! I'd highly recommend Life on a Sandbar and its host, Jimmy Black.

The home was great and the beach was right there to enjoy. I was able to view 3 naval ships and a submarine arriving into port. It was awesome!

My family had an absolutely wonderful time here! Our kids (7,1) enjoyed having the beach directly in the backyard! It's the perfect location for a family, very private and quiet. The property is so clean and beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice! Not one negative thing to say about it. Highly recommend, we will definitely be back!

The property was just as described. Very clean and well supplied. Steps out to the beach. Jimmy was the best host we’ve ever experienced. Excellent communication and very enjoyable to deal with. Hope to stay again sometime soon when visiting our son who is stationed there in Norfolk.

Had a delightful stay on Willoughby Spit! Beach was super clean and short walk from the cottage. Owner was very responsive and cottage was as described. Would definitely stay again when in the area.

The home was very clean. it was great to be so close to the beach. very relaxing and private for a public beach. people and neighbors were very nice. Jim the host had plenty of information at house for things to do in the area. museums, restaurants fishing...Town of Norfolk has a lot of great history. Jim was always checking in to make sure your arrival had no issues. He left clear instructions how to operate the home. helped greatly. would go back again.

Adorable house! Very clean. Lively beach décor in the house enhanced the experience indoors, while the amenities and supplies made me feel 'at home away from home.' Jimmy, the host, was highly responsive and there was a lovely beach only steps away. Could not have asked for more!
