property was not clean, to the point where we did not prepare food or use the kitchen

This place is a scam! It's NOT the house in the pictures. The front door is NOT able to lock from the inside. It has a code pad that allows anyone with a code to just walk in and that's exactly what happened at 10pm the night we arrived at the house. I was vacationing with my sister and our two teenage daughters and arrived at the house late. The place was dirty! Dishes were dirty and put away with food on them. Nothing had been wiped down or vacuumed. The microwaved had exploded food in it. The garden area looked like a construction zone. I will add pictures to this review if I'm able. I immediately sent a message to the manager/owner thru Booking.com about the state of the house that I was 'disappointed that the place was dirty'. I thought maybe the cleaner hadn't showed up and they were unaware. The next thing I knew a woman came in the front door without knocking - at 10pm at night!! She was aggressive and rude - insisting the place was clean. When I told her it didn't seem clean to me she just yelled asking me to show her. So, I opened the silverware drawer and showed her the dirty forks and spoons as an example. She responded by throwing them loudly into the sink and scrubbing them saying the dishwasher must not have worked. I told her I wasn't trying to be rude and she needed to calm down. Maybe she had been drinking but she made enough commotion that it scared the girls. After she left - slamming the door - I realized we couldn't lock it after her. She mentioned she lived 'just across the way'. So, I pushed a big filing cabinet in front of the door and we left the next morning. I've been in touch with Booking.com and they have done nothing but apologize and tell me the property doesn't want to refund any money and there is nothing they can do except tell them it's a security violation which amounts to nothing.
