Rustic Authentic Michigan Log Cabin

We absolutely loved being surrounded by nature and the waves. Rustic is completely accurate but the time away makes it worth the treck to a little secluded cabin on the water. Thank you Gerry!

Everything was amazing and comfortable and relaxing, only “issues” was a giant spider we came across in the bathroom plus all the little flies and spiders everywhere else but for a cabin on the water in beaver island it’s pretty much spotless

The cabin was like stepping back in time(with some modern convenience)! Beautiful blue waters lapping at the beach. Warm cozy fires in the evening. Brilliant night sky views. We enjoyed the island, the bays and especially the cabin!

This was the perfect spot to have a quiet get-away. It was nice to be on the south end of the island and close to all the natural features of the island.
In one word...peaceful.

This cabin was perfect for our weekend birdwatching trip to Beaver Island. We actually had many birds right at the cabin! Although we were in "high bug season" the screens on all the windows allowed us to open everything up and enjoy the crisp spring air and the sound of the waves on the beach. This cabin is rustic, exactly as the advertising says, but is clean and has everything you will need. Keep in mind, there is no place for groceries, etc on the south end of the island. Make a stop at the one grocery store on the island in town before you drive to the cabin. We enjoyed the weekend here so much as did our pup, Maddie!

Cozy, rustic cottage right on the water. Secluded and quiet aside from the sound of the waves on water and the wind. Warm fireplace inside and fresh crisp air off the water flowing through the windows if you wish. Simply beautiful, relaxing, and special. Loved it, thank you!

Rustic cabin that feels like you're on a boat it's so close to the water. Fell asleep easily listening to the waves crashing into the shore.

This was our second summer staying here and we absolutely love the location! We're so glad there is now an enclosure around the shower. We definitely plan to return for many more summers.

Although the location of this cabin is spectacular, each day (and upon first entering) we had to deal with water snakes. This was unsettling to say the least. We paid for 4 nights but only stayed 2. In all I had to deal with 5 snakes over our brief stay.

We were suppose to stay at Kelly's Point but received a call from the owners that there was a Snake problem so they would have to place us at their private residence on the Island which was Eagles Nest.
It was beautiful! Log cabin on the lake with kayaks and bikes to use! It was Private and quiet!
It could have used a good dusting and cleaning but very nice!

This cabin is the perfect getaway! We celebrated our 10th anniversary here and couldn't have asked for a more peaceful and beautiful place to stay. We loved the rustic atmosphere and only wish we could have stayed longer!

This is definitely an old cabin. Takes you back in time. If you want peace and quiet Then this is the place to be. Seen a few snakes and the mosquitoes were kind of rough but I would definitely go back.

We were there from sept 16th through 19th. The cabin is old as expected. It was clean but there are many personal items around that have been collecting dust. The queen size mattress is so old and smelly. Definitely time for a new mattress. That would make many happy customers. In addition to bedsheets, I recommend bringing your own mattress pad, blankets and pillows. Maybe extra flat sheets for the couch and chairs. The living room furnitures are fine but cushions felt scratchy. Although we never really spent time in the living room. Back porch is a nice place to hang out and look at the lake. It would be nice to have comforter chairs to sit on. There is only one old chair with cushion and a plastic chair. Bring your own lawn chairs if you can. Kitchen is sufficient. There's indoor toilet and outside shower, which surprisingly nice. No snakes or mice that we can see. Few flies, no mosquitoes. Due to strong winds, the waves were very loud, that, at night, it sounded like a hurricane. The morning we left, the wind died down so the waves sounded like normal waves. Very pleasant. We brought our own vehicle and kayaks. We hiked few trails that lead to different remote beaches. All are just gorgeous. Cable creek beach, iron ore beach, Donegal bay, little sand bay, Bonners landing, karl erber nature preserve. We packed sandwiches and have picnics. We had dinner at Beaver Island lodge - way over priced. Will not going back there. Shamrock restaurant was good but still overpriced. Water was pleasantly warm enough to swim in.
In summary, we had a very pleasant stay. You get used to the cabin after the first day. There was no tv and dvd player, which was fine because we didn't need it after all. Beach by the cabin is very rocky. Which is fine because I love rocks and sandy beaches are everywhere. All points are rocky and the bays are sandy.

If you want a relaxing weekend on the water, this is the place for you. Especially if you enjoy a handcrafted cabin and rustic charm. Absolutely can't say enough great things about the place. Great for couples. Just book a stay and see for yourself. Make sure you rent a car from Duffy, you will need one as its a 30 minute trip into town.

We had a wonderful time staying at Kellys Point. Its like camping but you have electricity and a real toilet. Bring everything you need, including bottled water for drinking and cooking. Overall we loved it!

We couldn't have asked for a more peaceful, tranquil, beautiful location!!! Just feet from the shore of Lake Michigan this cabin was everything we could have asked for. Definitely rustic but for us that was part of the appeal. We were initially nervous about the outside shower (it does face the only close neighbors) but we brought a tarp and hung it up and it worked perfectly. The breezes coming in all the windows at night was heavenly!! We're already making plans to come back for longer next summer.

Great time. Great location. Cabin was as expected.

Well it definitely was off the grid. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We both loved the log cabin atmosphere. The outside shower was awesome 😎. The only drawback was the stones on the beach in front of the cabin. We thought it was a beach with no stones. We had to find beaches to go to. The best one was iron ore Bay. OMG it is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen!! Quiet, clean, clear crisp water. It truly was heaven on earth. Only thing is the flies were horrendous. I'd anyone has some sort of glue, sticky stuff or whatever to repel the flies put it on!! Deep woods off didn't work at all. Actually flies everywhere. West wind helps to keep the flies away. We had a bon fire one night. Very Nice. Make sure to bring your own DVDs with you to watch at night. I read 2 800 page books during the time we were there. Kept the windows open at night. Moon is beautiful shimmering on the lake. Make sure to keep screen doors closed to keep the bugs out. Lots of snakes but never bothered us. After the first day we didn't see any snakes on the property. We went golfing, saw the toy museum, went to the gift shops, shamrocks was great for food. We left paper towels and Kleenex there for the next people. One peice of very important advice. We are to vacuum the place before we left. The vacuum container has not been emptied in I don't know how long. My husband has to empty it twice. Please make sure that anyone coming to stay in the future to please empty the vacuum container before and after you vacuum. Otherwise we couldn't have had a better time. It was my little piece of heaven on earth

The cabin was in a good location with great views of the lake. The cabin itself was extremely rustic. Cabin could use some TLC and cleaning but otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Description says Beach View Outstanding! Which is 100% correct, view was completely outstanding. Also said
Beachfront Most beautiful beach on the island. Which is not entirely correct there is a beach but very rocky making it hard to get in the water. I recommend Cable Beach which is very near the cabin, short drive. Description said Refrigerator Small apt size not apartment size it is a dorm size fridge with a small freezer. Cannot hold a weeks worth of food and drinks. We had to go to gas station daily to get ice to keep soda, water and beer cold in our cooler. Also said There is a functioning kitchen with a Coleman stove, and microwave, Happy to say not Coleman but an actual stove, oven doesn't work but we knew that before trip and didn't plan on using it. The microwave is old and did not light up so was hard to figure out programing and sounded like it was trying to power whole island when in use. Said a queen bed, our queen fitted sheet did not fit we just used flat sheet on mattress. Upon opening the cottage there were 1000 of flies inside which took a while to get most out. There's a broken window in bedroom that was repaired with a piece of card board and a plastic trash bag. The owners things were in all storage so there was no place for our clothing to be hung or placed. Their hygiene items were left on shower cady so ours had to be placed on ground. The outdoor shower is on same side of cabin as the neighboring cabin with no sort of block from them seeing you shower. I waved once to them and went and got our fitted sheet to hang for privacy. Over all I just wish I had a better understanding of what all was written in the description. Once adjusted to what was the reality of the cabin we had a great time visiting the island. The owner might want to update pictures or give more details to help avoid this. I really thought the white fridge seen in photos was the apartment size fridge and there is no clutter shown in photos which is just about everywhere in and around the cabin. Not sure if the norm or not but it was very windy making the waves loud thus making it hard to sit outside. Not that the owner can do anything about that, thought it might be useful if you are not use to noises when you sleep lucky for me it was great for drowning out the husband's snoring. As stated only slightly disappointed, overall was not the worse place on earth to visit such a beautiful island and the night skies were amazing! No locks on door no lockbox.

Rustic snake cabin.
Legit rustic cabin. Great place if you are looking to disconnect. All of beaver island and the beach have snakes but they tend to stay away from the porch.
For anyone visiting:
Don’t forget sheets and I’d suggest your own pillows
Shower shoes and shorts might be needed with outside shower.
Beach is rocky but nice sandy beaches to the north and south.
Might prefer to bring drinking and cooking water. It is a rustic cabin so water is a little cloudy.
Overall much better than any campsite and better price and privacy than a hotel
I will definitely return for another vacation

Wonderful rustic cabin right on the lake and perfect for a couple looking to get away! Loved it!
Highly recommend - we had a great time and the cabin was very comfortable especially with the cool fall weather, sounds of the waves outside window and crackling firewood in the stone fireplace!

Very Rustic
Loved our visit to Beaver Island! The cabin was very rustic which is what we wanted. Outside shower made for brisk washing up this time of year. Wish they had a few sharp knives for cooking, hot pads, maybe a jug of water and some firewood. We stayed middle of October and the only place we could find to buy wood was the hardware store which bundles were small and expensive. Local people are super friendly and the views were outstanding. We would definitely go again.

Relaxing retreat
We love rustic but not so much dirt and dust indoors. Would have been nice to have a place to hang clothes, but that was our only negative. We enjoyed the peacefulness of our stay. Fell asleep every night to the sounds of the waves ( fabulous ).
Looking forward to another visit.

Much needed relaxation at a beautiful location
This cabin makes an awesome retreat for a couple that needs to get away from it all. It is rustic but that's exactly what we were looking for. We have an off grid family cabin out in the woods on a secluded lake in Canada. Because of Covid we have not been able to take our yearly summer trip to it. This cabin made a perfect substitute. Though it was much more modernized which made things easier and left more time for relaxing and enjoying our time on the island. The cabin has electricity and plumbing. The bathroom has a flush toilet, a sink and it looks like it is in the process of having a shower installed. Currently there is an outdoor shower on the side of the cabin but we did not use it while we were there. The kitchen has a dorm sized mini fridge/freezer with plenty of space for a couple days of food. There's a nice vintage kitchen sink and a propane oven with stovetop. The cabin has a beautiful stone fireplace that was very nice to sit next to at night with all the windows open and hearing the waves crashing on the beach. It was so relaxing and just what we needed. There is one bedroom with a queen sized bed and in the fireplace room there is a large couch. Just a heads up, if you don't like snakes this cabin is not for you unless you don't plan to go outside. There are many gardner and water snakes on the rocky beach and in the back yard. We did not mind them since we like snakes and they do a great job of getting rid of mice and rats that tend to infest cabins that go unused for a while. They didn't bother us at all and they would scurry away any time we got too close to them. There were no snakes in the cabin which was great. The cabin did smell like an old rustic cabin but that was fixed by opening all the windows which we would choose to do anyways. There were no mice or rats that we saw while we were there. The useable yard space is quite small but there should be enough space to set up a toss type game like Cornhole. There is a bon fire pit right next to the beach. As for other outdoor activities, there are many hiking trails and beaches nearby. So if you like spending time in nature this is a great place to be. Our favorite part about the cabin was falling asleep to the lake breeze coming through the windows and hearing the waves hitting the shore. It was so nice and peaceful and made our stay amazing. Highly recommend the cabin if you don't mind it being a bit rustic. Overall it was perfect for us. We will definitely be back!

Rustic
Make sure you get the right combo to get into the cabin. It took us about 45 minutes to get into the cabin thanks to the neighbor who was able to call the caretaker. The cabin is very rustic and nice.

On the South Shore of Beaver Island
It was a remarkable experience and one I’ll never forget. If you like the sound of waves crashing on the rocks, fresh air, sunshine, wildlife and the feeling of being in a cabin on the frontier, then you’ll love this unique place. Relax and kickback, don’t worry, you have everything you need: water, electricity, a shower, a stove and refrigerator; but most of all you have that rustic cabin experience on an island in Lake Michigan!

Relaxing Hideaway
Kelly's Point is rustic as advertised but with a certain charm and hint of adventure that we were looking for. We enjoyed the indoor fireplace on stormy days, the screened windows, and the location. Beaver Island and a nice getaway and being on the south side of the island allowed us to be more remote but a drivable distance to town when needed. During the day we went to Iron Ore beach for a nice sandy beach since the cabin has softball-size rocks that hurt our dog's feet, drove the many dirt roads (we brought our Jeep Wrangler over on the ferry), rented a kayak from Happy Paddle (who delivered) and read countless books with the lake breeze coming through the window.
The only negatives I would say would be there is no privacy from neighbors with the outside shower, the rocky beach, the restaurants in town not being dog friendly, and the many snakes on the island (which is no fault of the property owner). We also brought sheets for two twin beds but there is a queen bed instead.
Overall, we enjoyed our vacation and our stay at Kelly's Point.and would recommend it to friends.

Great Rustic Cabin
My husband and two puppies loved our stay here! It is definitely rustic, but it was just what we were looking for! We loved being disconnected and enjoying the stars at night! We enjoy camping and being outdoors so this is our type of get away. Having only an outdoor shower was fine with us. If you are looking for a genuine rustic atmosphere, this is perfect. We loved being so close to the lake and hearing the waves while we slept. It is very relaxing. If you are looking for convenience and comfort, this is probably not what you are looking for. We loved the true log cabin feel!

The cabin could not be in a better location. It's very cozy, and my new wife and I enjoyed each other's company for an entire week. We don't mind 'roughing it', so the rustic nature of the cabin was perfect. A little grit doesn't bother us. But there are a few things we wish we knew going in so that we could have been prepared. The shower was outside - our trip was on the first week of November, so it was a bit cold. There were also no curtains for the shower, so we were lucky the neighbors weren't in. There weren't any towels available, and we didn't realize this, and so we didn't have any towels. We ended up drying off with old t-shirts, which worked in a pinch, but it would have been nice to know that we needed to bring our own towels. Also, there were no pillowcases on the pillows. Seemed odd to us, we would have never thought to bring our own pillowcases. We could not contact the caretaker - though Gerry was available and picked up the phone immediately when we ran into a problem with the key. And finally the place fairly reeked of mothballs, but we got over it within 30 minutes. It wasn't bad at all, easy to ignore. And to Gerry's credit, we didn't see a single mouse all week, so they must have worked. Now that I've got all the nasty negative out of the way, let me praise this wonderful place. Because there are far, far more positives than negatives. The location was stunning. The view out of every single window facing the lake was a perfect postcard snapshot of the water. It was unbelievable how perfect and picturesque it was. Every single time we looked out the windows, or sat upon the porch, or at the fire pit - perfection. The beach in front of the cabin provided for hours of beachcombing, looking for the most interesting things we could find. The furniture was all clean and very cozy, with clean blankets and sheets on the bed. There was even a little tv with a dvd player - we stopped by the island gas station and bought some movies to watch, rather than choosing from Gerry's personal collection. We left them there for future visitors. The bathroom had vents installed which is handy for masking noise and smell, since the cabin is a bit intimate. The fireplace was unimaginably cozy; we sat reading entire books at a time by the thing. And the sound - the sound. The waves provide a constant backdrop to life in the cabin. To future visitors: I recommend packing like you're going camping. Towels, drinking water, etc. The cabin is amazing

My husband and I stayed from 9/25-9/28, 2020. The location was absolutely gorgeous and the cabin was quaint and cozy. We were thrilled upon arrival. However, as we settled in, we were surprised by a few things we would’ve liked to have known before booking. Things that, as a potential guest, you might want to consider.1. The place was filthy. When renting a rustic cabin, one can expect a certain amount of dinge, but this particular set of conditions exceeded “rustic.” Floors and carpets were obviously dirty, mouse droppings and nesting evidence were in the appliances and on surfaces, the bathroom smelled like something had died, dishes were unwashed, and the linens smelled like dog/someone else’s body and were covered in pet hair or, in one case, candle wax. I was especially grateful for the sheets and towels Gerry asked us to bring. If nothing else, I knew I could put my head down on a clean pillow. 2. The cabin was absolutely infested with mice. I saw roughly 20 in the three days we were there. When they weren’t visibly scurrying around, evidence of them was everywhere. There were the aforementioned droppings and nesting bits, but there was also the inescapably pervasive smell of mouse urine. So pervasive, in fact, that my husband and I had trouble sleeping and awoke each morning with congestion and sore throats. Super fun weekend getaway!Despite all this, we checked out disappointed but optimistic for resolution. Given my husband’s pleasant conversation with Gerry prior to arrival, we expected him to be horrified that his cabin wasn’t being regularly cleaned between guests and was disturbingly smelly with mouse urine. When my husband spoke with Gerry about the cabin’s conditions, he apologized, informed us he was going up later in the week, would check the conditions out and “make it right.” A week or so later, we received a check reimbursing our cleaning fee. My husband contacted Gerry again, but he informed us that he did all he could and he “thought the transaction was complete on my end,” making it clear to us that he didn’t intend to compensate us any further. I have a million things to say about receiving only the cleaning fee back after staying in a filthy, mouse-infested cabin I couldn’t sleep in because it smelled so bad, but what’s the point? I do only hope that you consider not only the possible conditions of this “rustic” oasis, but the treatment you may receive should you find it a little too “rustic.”

Relaxing stay ruined
My partner and I were looking for a nice get-away on Beaver Island. I was excited when I found this rustic cabin online, and I thought that I knew what I was getting us into - but I was wrong. We're fine with rugged living, and typically camp or backpack on vacations, but we were not prepared for a cabin full of toxic mothballs and loaded mouse traps. The noxious smell was so bad that it made my partner feel nauseous and we could not stay at the cabin even after removing every mothball (~ 50 of them) and airing out the cabin. Finding another place to stay last-minute for our 5-day vacation on the island with a dog was very difficult and we were almost left sleeping in our rented car. Thankfully many people on the island are very friendly and accommodating. Gerry did not answer my 7+ calls on the night of the discovering the loaded mothball cabin, but did respond to my angry email in the morning and thankfully refunded our money in full. Maybe it was a mistake that the cabin had been prepared for winter, but either way it was a huge bummer and had a lasting impact on our "relaxing" trip. The cabin is in such an amazing location right on the lake, but we were overall really disappointed with this rental experience.
