My partner and I stayed at the River Lodge during our Christmas/ summer holiday and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The hosts are fantastic, great vibes all round! The included breakfast was delicious and we had all the amenities we needed. Well worth the price and experience away from a chain hotel. The setting is so green, relaxing and warm. We slept so well as it was so quiet. Highly recommend you stay here if you are planning to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Dani can organise a direct shuttle to/from the track for you.

Quiet and beautiful view at the mountain

A gorgeous, boutique alpine experience. Daniel was really friendly and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. The cottage was warm, immaculate and smelled of cedar wood. The sheets were lovely quality. The breakfast was delicious. The optional extra alpine bath outdoors was well worth it after a day at the snow. Highly recommend this beautiful hidden gem.

A great place to stay in an idyllic setting. A range of accommodation and our King Suite in the Lodge suited our needs perfectly with an excellent bed and large en-suite. Daniel, our host is very knowledgeable and passionate about the local area and serves an amazing breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the fire in the lounge of the Lodge and although we enjoyed our own wine, Daniel has a great selection of wines grown by Swiss winemakers living in NZ.

The lodge is a beautiful old building with nice and quiet surroundings. The cabins are amazing and the breakfast fantastic.

Spa Pool was amazing and very relaxing environment .

The Wifi was a bit slow but to be fair you don't go there for the WiFi you go for the view.

Just WOW! The River Lodge is such a magical place. The property was so beautiful and right on the river. We wander down the river and enjoyed Dani’s fantastic hosting skills. He made us feel so welcomed and was attentive with everything. Great for children! We cannot fault the place, we shall be back. Thanks Dani for welcoming us, and your delicious breakfasts.

Dani was an incredible host, very warm and helpful. We loved our stay and the new chalets are such a cosy environment for winter. Finished to a really high standard. Breakfast was delicious and the hot tub was perfect for those chilly winter evenings. We would definitely visit again.

We liked everything about the river lodge, amazing location and a really relaxing place to be. Danni the host is great, very accommodating and full of local information for ideas on what to do. The breakfast is great. I highly recommend the river lodge. We certainly will be going back.

Beautiful location & well thought out accommodation. really nice to have breakfast included & in such style. Touches everywhere, eg. walking track around property, bonfire pit, seating, very cosy inside lodge etc.

This little lodge was in a great location, made you feel like you were out in the wilderness but it was only a 10minute drive to the township. Breakfast was great! So much more than we expected!

There wasn't much to complain about. Everything was great! The only thing I would suggest is access to a fan in the summer. I believe the lodge was made more to accommodate people in the winter, but in the summer, the rooms got very hot at night. Either a fan or window screens so the windows can be left open.
