Beautiful central location and a wonderful old building. The owner was extremely helpful and responded quickly to questions. The rooms were a very good size, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were just what we needed for our family group. The kitchen was well equipped so if you're going for the walking no problems with washing! Garage parking was provided nearby, which was a bonus.
We stayed during a very hot period and it would have been lovely if we could have eaten outside to take advantage of the spectacular river view. There is a garden table, but the selection of chairs wasn't suitable for sitting around the table - a set of 6 matching chairs would be a real bonus.
Some of the crockery was chipped, and there wasn't a matching set of cutlery- small things, but what, in my eyes, make it 4 star and not 5.

The amount of space and the view overlooking the river. My ten year old great niece really loved the space and facilities in top bedroom. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of seating. All guests said would like to come again and stay longer as only here weekend as attending wedding at Tower Hill Barnes in next village.
Lighting on landing not working. Garage offered very small and not easy to get in and out due to bad parking by other drivers though realise not under your control. Damaged side of car. However other guests parked in car park for small fee which was not very far away and much better.

location was great, loads of space, plenty of bathrooms
nothing really

The house was absolutely stunning! So many period features and everything had been thought out, to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. My boys loved the extensive dvd collection!
The garden was very pleasant, with a fabulous view of the River Dee. The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise and very thoughtful. After the drive, the wine was just what I needed! The location is perfect, everything is close by and most places are dog friendly, which was great for us. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all fabulous, especially our room at the top of the house. It was a lovely couple of days and we look forward to going back.

the views over the river, lovely character features and huge bedroom en-suites!

Absolutely an amazing property . My family and I really enjoyed our stay there. So much history in the building.

There are so many Pros to Cornerstones. It is a gorgeous period property, cosy and comfy and well equipped. Plenty of room for a family/group stay and such a great location with bars/ restaurants and walks along the river and canal literally on the doorstep. The private parking is also a great boon.
Cornerstones markets itself as a luxury property, I’m sure it was at some point but it’s now very tired. The spa bath in the Castle room doesn’t work, the sky light leaks and leaves a wet patch on the carpet and the shower doesn’t drain away properly. There is no real extraction in the small loo in the castle room which kind of knocks the romance of that room on the head!
The TV room is a lovely room with pretty views, it is so cosy too but odd to only have two chairs, more furniture would be better. We were left a note apologising that the previous guests had broken the window seat and yet according to the guest book broken window seats are a permanent issue! We couldn’t use the fire in the Front room because the previous guests had also broken the glass and that was a real shame because the only way we could then sit all together in a group was in the dining area as the front room was just a tad too chilly for my elderly mother in law.
The real rub though was the full bins in the River room. Not just usual rubbish but dirty nappies and used tampons. This was utterly appalling. I like to give people the opportunity to put things right and the guest book encourages you to call Beth the Housekeeper which we did and left a voicemail but we heard nothing. An apology at least would be nice, not only is this disgusting but we live in times where infectious disease is something that concerns us all.
Otherwise things like broken glasses, cracked mugs, broken plant pits and cigarette butts in the garden just show a complete lack of attention to the detail which is so important to ensure guests feel comfy and relaxed and not like they have to clean the place first.

Great location and lovely property
Jacuzzi bath wasn’t working, which was disappointing. From reading previous reviews, this was a known issue but hadn’t been resolved. The standard of cleaning also wasn’t as high as expected - in particular the overflowing heap of bin bags in the garden needs to be addressed. The dining equipment (cups, table mats and pans) are also in need of a refresh. We also experienced problems with the separate garage when leaving the property as someone had parked in front of the doors, blocking our car. Fortunately we managed to find the owner in the nearby hotel or we would have been stuck. Appreciate that this isn’t the fault of the owner, but it sounded like this is a regular issue so putting cones outside the garage or warning bookers that this can happen may be helpful.
4.3
Location size thoughtful touches - dressing tables make up mirrors tissues
Cleanliness - bathrooms shower heads needed cleaning, toilet brushes not clean, mould in oak room bathroom. Jacuzzi bath not working in river room. lack of instructions regarding rubbish, rubbish building up outside.

The rooms were very well equipped and plenty of towels. The location was incredible. Lots of space and facilities were generous. Very helpful host.
The floors in general on the lower floors were not cleaned well.
The finish on the property was rustic rather than luxury.

It was a beautiful house ,so full of character, beds were amazing rooms everything you need is there

Quirky, great location
A lot of maintenance needed. Spa bath doesn’t work, water dripping continuously as you exit back door to garden and making steps slimy, various lamps didn’t work, TV sitting room has 2 chairs and no sofa.

absolutely gorgeous house. everything was perfect

House is huge and was fully equipped and warm (fantastic installation) great location with the Dee at the bottom of the garden.
Bedrooms are fantastic especially the top floor (our room)
Check in was after 3 pm
Check out was 10 am
Expensive stay if you work it out. The morning felt more like a military operation, packing shower breakfast out the door by ten with the threat of a fine if your late hanging over you.
Not very conducive to a relaxing stay.
To note the header beams are a bit low, one caught me 😖 thier are signs up warning of this, it's also the joy of older houses.
Two payments was taken from my bank account for this stay, one was authorised but the second was not.
The unauthorised payment was taken on the day of leaving and wasn't noticed until the following day, I then had to chase it up and was refunded two days later.

Lovely view from the garden. Beds very comfy.
The area was a bit run down - no issues with the house though. Just meant we had to drive out if we wanted nice restaurants and things to do.
4.3
Fabulous location, very private and relaxing. Quirky and comfortable rooms with plenty of space. Rooms were spotless. Garden was a bonus looking straight onto river. Our baby was catered for as well and nothing was too much trouble. All my questions prior to arrival were answered within an hour or two
My only minor negative is that there was almost too much information provided by the accommodation prior to arrival which meant a lot of it got lost

Absolutely phenomenal, took my breath away, will definitely be recommending to others and booking again

The 10am checkout. Although I understand it’s pretty standard it always feels like an abrupt end to your break!

Wow! What a quirky property this was. I loved its old fashioned charm, wonderful views over the River Dee and beds that you simply didn't want to get out of. In the centre of the town, it was well located and I even had a locked garage for the car. The kitchen was well equipt and the two bedrooms that we used were big enough to hold a dance. A beer sat in the garden overlooking the River were just what the doctor ordered.
It went with the nature of the property but there were a lot of stairs!
A few board games would have been nice.

It’s location and proximity to shops & restaurants. Luxurious suites.
