The property is shabby and needs a refurb!

The breakfast was fine. The most positive thing about the hotel was that it looked impressive from the outside at night (and photographed well).

Check-in was terrible - there was no check-in desk, and it seemed a very cumbersome process for the staff - it took too long. Also, it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when the room charge is required to be paid upfront. No proper 5-star hotel does this. Generally, the hotel looked a bit tired, and the staff, though friendly, were certainly not well trained and experienced at the level expected for a hotel charging this much in this location. The room was quite hideous - way too large. The bathroom size was ridiculous. And the design just lacked any attention to detail. You could fit an army in the shower space, but the shower fitting was quite small, and the shelf for the shower gel, etc., was miles away from the shower. There was one main switch for all the lights, including the bathroom, so if you wanted to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you'd wake up the other person. The room had an echo-y sound due to no floor coverings. The TV was too small. The courtyard space was dismal. All in all, NOT a room you'd want to spend any time in. I'm glad we were only booked for one night, but it was a waste of money. We could have stayed somewhere much cheaper for the same quality based on my previous experience of staying in Colombo.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The restaurant although a bit slow had a very good menu and good quality food.

Food and the room was quite spacious.

Maybe add a pool table at the bar

Just a suggestion, to consider replacing the paving around the pool, and the courtyard off the room, with Victorian style black and white paving. It would elevate the area into a feature.

courtyard area could be cleaner - prevent pigeons and crows from bathing in the sides of the pool please breakfast really didn’t work for me - we were presented with a menu which had prices on and no guidance on how to order? did we pay? did we order one thing? do we order one of each? i then asked for croissant and bagel but both were enormous so I generated wasted. i assumed they would be small. Breakfast set up needs some work. food was good though
