The Octant Duro is an outstanding property. Built right into a hillside on the Duro River it is an architectural masterpiece. It is peaceful with plenty to do - hiking, swimming, kayaking and stand up paddling. Lovely spa and the restaurants and staff are truly first rate.

The hotel is in a very beautiful setting, right on the river. We were upgraded to a river view room, which was a very nice surprise, and there were lots of little complimentary perks in the room: tea, wine, apples, sleep kits, hats etc. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in arranging reservations at a vineyard for us. Breakfast spread was very nice. You'll most likely eat at both restaurants as there is not much else in the area without drive in the curvy mountain roads, but we enjoyed our meals.

Not too many downsides, but if I had to pick a few: pool is small and requires reservation, our room had a strong cleaner or air freshener smell (better than other smells, I suppose).

Even though it was cold and windy there was an indoor pool which I used. The atmosphere is relaxing here. The dinner we had was amazing as well as the breakfast. I would go again if in that area in the future!

It was a beautiful inn and very relaxing. The staff was very helpful and supportive throughout our stay. The food was excellent! We asked the sommelier to suggest wine parings with each course of our meal, and he was truly insightful and enhanced our experience.

We visited in December and felt there could have been things like fire pits to make the outdoors more amenable during our stay. Also the Octant hotel that we visited was a bit far from the wineries that we wanted to experience. The staff was unable to provide us with a reasonably priced (under $500) tour operator that would take us to the wine region. We did find a great tour operator on our own and will share the information with the hotel staff.

The view was amazing, the room was spacious, the hotel is stunning.

the outdoor pool was freezing - it would be great if it is a little heated.. I couldn't go in. The windows in the indoor pool was dirty so that ruined the view a little..

breakfast could have been better

The setting and views are beautiful, and the design of the hotel is lovely. Our room had a wonderful terrace with views of the Duoro River. Both of the hotel's outdoor pools have gorgeous views, and the indoor pool is beautiful also. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Nice surprises in the room at turn-down.

The cream carpet in our room had a couple prominent stains on it. There was an unpleasant (possibly damp) odor in the room. The toilet seat in our bathroom was loose. Would expect better maintenance/attention to detail in a hotel of this category.

We went there for our wedding night. The hotel went above beyong to facilitate my requests of making the night extra special by setting out the room for our arrival as husband and wife. Stunning views over looking the river, everything was perfect.

An extraordinary experience. Nothing has been thought of for the guest's well-being, from the port wine to welcome and a person from the reception who leads to the room and explains about the hotel's facilities. Pools, spa, sauna, bathrobes, slippers, a milk coffee machine when leaving the gym, and in the evening a tray with two cups of tea, fruit and cookies. On the bed for the night, earplugs and a cover were waiting Eyes and perfume. In the morning, if you want a pool or a hiking trail, a fancy hat will be waiting for you. If you want to practice yoga in the room, you will find a mattress in the closet. A rich breakfast and a bar and restaurant with a perfect view. Extreme guests have kayaks and surfboards for free.
