Very unique experience of japan culture. The staff was so kind and friendly.

Wifi worked well, buf it was a bit slow at times (maybe because we were on the second floor?)

A very cool old, well-preserved traditional Japanese home with an exceptionally beautiful garden. The family that runs this establishment is lovely. They provided freshly brewed green tea and a monaka snack at check in, the house has a neat stone bath that you can reserve for an hour, and the vegetarian breakfast I had was delicious with a lot of things to try.

It wasn’t enough to bother me, and the house is located on a small side street so there isn’t much traffic, but a little bit of street noise did filter in in the morning when I stayed.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful and tranquil room and outdoor pond with koi. Bath was super relaxing. Delicious kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Easy to find, and a quick walk to a beautiful garden (Shosei-en) and temple (Higashi Hogan-ji).

Bathroom is shared and downstairs (our room was upstairs), so particularly challenging if you need to use it late at night. Futon is tough to sleep on if you're not used to it (especially if you're a side sleeper, like I am). A bit of a hike to the closest station (Kyoto, about 10 minutes away), though there are bus lines closer.

A beautiful ryokan in a central location near Kyoto station, the owners were super friendly and very accommodating of my limited Japanese. The breakfast is delicious too! I would highly recommend visiting if you get the chance

Probably the best feature of Kikokuso was the husband and wife owners. They were incredibly thoughtful and helpful at every step of the way. My only regret is that I didn't think to ask them sooner about recommendations. In our last night, I asked for suggestions of a nearby restaurant, and their suggestion of an Izakaya just a few blocks away was outstanding.

The most difficult issue was one that we should have thought of in advance. This is a small, family run inn. The result is that some things that might be easier in a larger property weren't easy. Early on, some friends had arranged for the four of us to get a reservation at a local restaurant, but the earliest reservation available was 9 pm. Given the time for the meal and transportation, I figured we would be back about 11 or 11:30 pm. Unfortunately, they have locked the doors by that time, so we had to pass on the reservation. On the other hand, because the airline had cancelled our flights out from Osaka to an early time, the owners were very gracious in agreeing to get up at 4 am so they could let us out to meet our taxi.

Incredible hosts working there, such pleasant service and attentive kind owners. A true experience to be remembered, nice offering of a combination of foods served in a traditional style with a great setting. Stunning garden area which could be viewed from dining. Onsen offered too which was attractive. Good sized space in the room itself. A great experience for this ryokan style accommodation.

Understood it’s a ryokan but the bed was particularly uncomfortable. Was fine for one night.

Hotel owners were very welcoming and friendly. It’s a family run small ryokan so it is very cozy. Breakfast was very good and it was served in a private dining room. My only problem is the shared toilet which is downstairs and my bedroom is upstairs, but I already knew this when I booked. So if you need to go toilet a lot at night, it may not be convenient.

Fantastic experience at a traditional, family-run Ryokan. The host family were so welcoming, it was amazing to hear that the Ryokan has been run by the family for 3 generations and the house is 140 years old. We checked in and were offered the onsen-style family bath for a relaxing hot bath before dinner, towels and robes provided. We booked the dinner and breakfast and both were fantastic. Multiple courses and all set in our own bamboo floor dining room overlooking the koi carp pond that runs through the house. The room itself is spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking the pond. We went for the shared bathroom option and there is a choice of Western and Japanese toilets, as there aren’t many rooms we never saw others in the bathroom anyway despite it being shared. Overall a great experience and I’d recommend to anyone traveling to Kyoto to stay here.

We had a chance to stay one night in Yadoya Kikokuso. It was an unforgetable experience to stay in this traditional Japanese ryokan with amazing and kindest hosts. Our room was spacious with lots of amenities and had a beautiful view of a Japanese style garden. We enjoyed every single part of this small ryokan from tasty breakfast to little private Japanese bathroom that you can reserve for an hour free of charge. I would definately come back!

This is the only time we have stayed in a Ryokan, so have no comparison, but it was fantastic. The whole family who own and run the ryokan were friendly and helpful. Our room was fantastic - clean and comfortable. The hot rock bath was a great bonus. We had diner and breakfast served in the private dining room overlooking the courtyard, with pool and garden - a fantastic experience. If we ever visit Kyoto again we will definitely return - thank you

I had a wonderful two nights stay at the Kikokuso Ryokan! This traditional home is run by the family for three generations and you can really see that it is loved and cared for. The room was beautiful, peaceful and clean. I loved the traditional bath ( Ofuro) and the traditional bed (Futon) was really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious! The owners were so kind and helpful. Overall it was perfect and I highly recommend it :)

Yadoya Kikokuso is a traditional Ryokan with a family feel. we felt so pampered and looked after. It felt like I was saying goodbye to family when we left.

The staff gave us a very warm welcome which make us feel at home. We had a delicious breakfast with an amazing garden view outside the window.
